After years of excitement since its first reveal, Phantom Blade Zero finally launches later this year.
As of yesterday, the game can also be pre-ordered on PS5 and PC, but S-Game has shown no signs of a physical release for the title. It seems Phantom Blade Zero will be a digital-only title for the time being.
Why it matters: PlayStation is ending physical disc support in 2028, but it seems studios are already stepping away from the disc market before this date’s arrival.
At the time of writing, the game can only be pre-ordered digitally across both PlayStation and PC. Fans have also taken to platforms like Reddit to point out that physical pre-orders appear to be non-existent for now.
Interestingly, the PlayStation pre-order trailer also shows that S-Game is now promoting Phantom Blade Zero with a Digital Edition PS5 console instead of a Physical Edition console, as was the case for previous trailers.
It is speculated that the lack of a physical release may be due to S-Game self-publishing the title. Because this is the studio’s first major release, it may not have been able to find a partner to help produce discs.
If this is the case, the developer may have plans to pursue a physical release at a later date. However, the launch period seems limited to a digital-only rollout for Phantom Blade Zero.
Although this will likely upset fans of physical media, the one good news to come out recently is that Phantom Blade Zero will be cheaper than most AAA titles at $60. This could help the game stand out in the competitive Fall 2026 games market.
