After Complaining About $80 Pricing, Consumers Are Buying $100 Edition Anyways!

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 is priced at $80 for the Standard Edition and $100 for the Ultimate Edition.
  • The Take-Two CEO says more people are currently pre-ordering the $100 edition of the game.
  • He believes this is due to the enthusiast crowd’s interest in GTA 6 for now.

Rockstar Games and Take-Two officially opened up pre-orders for GTA 6 over a month ago, and so far, the response to the game has been unprecedented.

Despite the game costing $80 at minimum and $100 for those willing to go the extra mile, the title is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says the $100 Ultimate Edition is selling better so far.

Why it matters: GTA 6’s $80 pricing led to a lot of outcry from gamers, but it seems most have no problem paying even more for the title.

GTA 6 Is Coming In Just A Few More Months

Speaking to CNBC (via Twitter), Strauss Zelnick discussed various angles to GTA 6’s upcoming launch. On the subject of pre-orders, he confirmed that players are currently gravitating more towards the $100 Ultimate Edition.

The CEO believes this may be a result of the hardcore gaming fandom being attracted towards GTA 6 at the moment. This crowd typically enjoys all the extras that come with the more expensive editions, so GTA 6 is benefiting from their higher-than-average interest.

As evidence of this, many players previously voted in a poll that they would spend up to $100 on the game.

Actually they’re skewing more to the Premium Edition.

Rockstar Games Could Break All Records Very Soon

Strauss Zelnick does imply that the discrepancy between the Standard and Ultimate Edition could even out as more consumers begin to pre-order GTA 6. Perhaps this will happen once non-gamers decide to purchase the title after watching the upcoming Netflix premiere.
