After months of speculation, Rockstar has finally let the cat out of the bag and revealed the price of GTA 6. The highly anticipated open-world title will retail for $80 at launch, while the ultimate edition is going to cost $100.

Unlike many developers requested, Take-Two and Rockstar have decided against pricing the standard variant of GTA 6 at $100 or more. However, as it turns out, there will be content inaccessible to people who pay $80 to play the game, as the company has made some stores exclusive to the ultimate edition.

Why it matters: A move like this is certainly going to raise eyebrows amongst the fans, as locked content is something one would expect from Ubisoft, not Rockstar.

Rockstar has revealed that some content in GTA 6 will be locked behind the pricier $100 ultimate edition of the game. Five stores, ranging from vehicle modification shops to hair salons, won’t be available if you purchase the standard variant of the single-player title.

As per the Rockstar website, these stores and their descriptions are listed below:

  • Rideout Customs: Transform vanilla vehicles into magnificent works of art with detailed interiors, exquisite rims, and donk stylings. Only open for business with the Ultimate edition.
  • Sara’s Unisex Salon: Get signature salon styles for both Jason and Lucia, including facial hair for Jason and makeup and nails for Lucia. Only open for business with the Ultimate Edition.
  • Stock 305: Style various unique and exclusive looks for Jason and Lucia at Stockyard’s premiere destination for elevated streetwear. Only open for business with the Ultimate Edition.
  • Electric Fang Tattoo: Stockyard’s most iconic ink bar, with over 50 signature tattoos for both Jason and Lucia — all designed by the artist collective FAILE. Only open for business with the Ultimate Edition.
  • One-Eyed Willie’s: This mod shop in Lake Leonida specializes in off-road modifications and hand-painted automotive artistry. Only open for business with the Ultimate Edition.

The company didn’t reveal whether these mod shops and salons will be available in GTA Online for $80, giving this decision a layer of ambiguity. Even though Take-Two has benefited the players by pricing the standard edition at $80, locking customisation and other content behind a higher price tag is certainly not a consumer-friendly choice.

Regardless, with analysts predicting GTA 6 will generate $1 billion as soon as pre-orders start, this exclusivity isn’t going to turn away potential buyers.
