It’s not common for an RMA story to turn out positively. Whenever we hear something about a company handling a warranty request, chances are, it doesn’t end well for the buyer. However, ZOTAC USA has just set a prime example of excellent customer service when they replaced a user’s RTX 4090 with a brand-new RTX 5090 after the former had been returned multiple times.
Reddit user @Prudent_Echidna1254 posted on the r/ZOTAC subreddit about an RMA complaint that was handled in a way we have rarely ever seen. According to him, they had been going through a back-and-forth with ZOTAC over the past year, returning multiple RTX 4090 graphics cards for issues such as BSODs, freezing, artifacts, and PCIe errors.
RMA’d 4 4090’s, given a 5090 instead. ZOTAC USA RMA Team, I love you

Apparently, their last RTX 4090 had just one month left on its original three-year warranty, and he had to send it in for replacement again. The user thought ZOTAC wouldn’t honor this warranty as it had very limited time remaining, but instead ZOTAC USA had other plans in mind. They sent an email to the user after about a month, offering him a brand new RTX 5090 in place of his error-plagued RTX 4090.

I don’t know how this got approved, but someone at ZOTAC clearly sympathized with our Redditor here and wanted to get him out of his RTX 4090 death loop. The user confirmed that he got a brand-new GeForce RTX 5090 Solid from ZOTAC, a variant that sells somewhere between $4,300 and $4,500 on the market. That’s an upgrade of about $2,000 over the $2,200-2,500 street price of the ZOTAC RTX 4090 AMP AIRO Extreme, his last card.
While this is a heartwarming story and warrants appreciation for ZOTAC, there is still a small twist at the end of the story. The user confirmed that the RTX 5090 only has a 30-day warranty period, which is a point of concern given the user’s history with ZOTAC cards. Now, I’m not suggesting that ZOTAC sent him faulty cards on purpose (my own experience with ZOTAC GeForce cards is quite positive), but given that the user already received multiple faulty RTX 4090 cards, a 30-day warranty is certainly cause for some concern.

That said, the user did clarify in the comments that every ZOTAC RTX 4090 card he previously received worked well initially and passed their internal testing, so the issue ultimately might still be on the user’s end. Moreover, ZOTAC had been sending him “refurbished” RTX 4090s since the original model wasn’t available brand-new, so that might give a bit of hope as far as the brand-new RTX 5090 goes.
Regardless, this is still a great RMA story that we rarely get to report on. Usually, it’s the other way around, but apparently, ZOTAC’s warranty policy allows products that are unavailable to be replaced by products that offer equal or better performance than the product being replaced, such as the case here.
With a limited 30-day warranty remaining, this user has to be careful about his RTX 5090, especially those pesky 12-pin connectors that keep melting. Maybe ZOTAC can finally redeem themselves with a long-lasting RTX 5090, after their RTX 4090 GPUs kept failing on this user.
