Game Science Says There Will Be Many Opportunities To Use AI, So There Is No Need To Rush With These Tools For Now!

Story Highlight
  • Black Myth: Zhong Kui is not being rushed through development.
  • Game Science has no current plans to use generative AI to create in-game assets.
  • This approach is quite different from other Asian developers who are going all-in on AI.

The use of AI across the games industry is growing at an unprecedented pace. In particular, Asian studios are fully embracing the technology, with the team behind Stellar Blade: Blood Rain being a major example.

Despite criticism around the use of artificial intelligence for game development, many have decided to integrate generative AI into their workflows. However, despite this new trend, Game Science has no plans to use generative AI for Black Myth: Zhong Kui.

Why it matters: Black Myth: Wukong put Game Science on the global map, so expectations around Black Myth: Zhong Kui are extremely high.

According to GamerSky, Game Science is taking things slow for Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The team has no intentions to rush development.

Toward this end, the team has no intentions of using generative AI shortcuts to rush into production. According to Game Science co-founder Yang Qigang, there is plenty of time to experiment with the technology.

The design and asset-production stages will be far removed from AIGC.

For now, the team simply wants to do its best before moving on to production. The Game Science co-founder and director also pointed to Christopher Nolan’s work as an inspiration, admiring his recent work for shining brightly in the era of artificial intelligence.

Nolan is still shining brightly, stirring up a storm with older technologies. There’s no such thing as a last train you definitely have to catch. There’s plenty of time for AI and stuff.

The developer believes that taking things slow, as Nolan often does, can be incredibly effective when done right. This is, of course, evident from The Odyssey’s success, which is even impacting Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

The Next Black Myth Title Might Be A Few Years Away

Anyhow, Black Myth: Zhong Kui appears to be far from release for now. Given the fact that Game Science already took its time working on Black Myth: Wukong, the studio appears to be following the same approach with its follow-up.

What do you think of Game Science’s approach to the title? Let’s discuss down below in the comments.
