Take-Two Boss Says Locking GTA 6 Extended Look to Netflix Is A Totally Non-Financial Decision

He Says It'll Feel Like Watching A Netflix Show!

Story Highlight
  • Strauss Zelnick says there wasn’t a financial decision involved in locking GTA 6’s extended look to Netflix.
  • He says the 20-minute-long preview will feel like watching a Netflix show to the audience.
  • It will eventually be released everywhere after a 6-hour exclusivity period.

There was a lot of criticism of Take-Two and Rockstar’s marketing tactics, with people complaining that it lacks the spark for a title of this stature. However, an extended look at the game has finally been announced for August 27 on Netflix.

This caught a lot of attention, and the Take-Two boss has addressed the situation. He says locking the trailer to Netflix for 6 hours is a completely non-financial decision, and the fans will understand it once they get a look at it.

Why it matters: Locking a trailer behind a paid subscription service is practically unheard of. There are reports that Netflix paid a whopping $100 million for the timed exclusivity, which already feels like a genius marketing tactic.

Talking to Jason Schreier, Strauss Zelnick said that there were no financial decisions involved with the exclusivity. He says the audience will understand, when they watch it, that the GTA 6 extended look feels like a Netflix show

There’s reasoning behind this. I think when the title is launched on Netflix, if you watch it, you’ll understand more.

GTA 6 extended look will be exclusive to Netflix for 6 hours

The new look is expected to be 20 minutes long, so it is kind of a short film in itself. It’ll reportedly give us our very first look at the gameplay; however, Zelnick’s statement that it will feel like a show is rather curious.

So, Take-Two seems to have its work cut out for it, and wants to present the extended look in all its glory. For those who don’t have Netflix, the trailer will release on YouTube after 6 hours, so it’s going to be exclusive for a short time.
