- Black Myth Wukong has now sold 30 million copies worldwide.
- Half of the sales came from China.
- Black Myth Wukong reached this mark 2 years faster than Elden Ring.
When released in 2024, Black Myth Wukong quickly became a global phenomenon and one of the biggest single-player game releases, hitting an all-time peak of nearly 2.5 million players and holding the record for the 2nd most-played game by CCU on Steam.
Now, less than 2 years after the game’s release, Black Myth Wukong has surpassed 30 million sales. The surprising part is that half of these sales were from China alone.
Why it matters: Surpassing the 30 million sale mark for a single-player game is commendable, let alone in just a span of a couple of years.

In a new document published by the CYL (Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China), it was revealed that Black Myth Wukong has surpassed 30 million in sales.
Comparing it to FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, Black Myth Wukong took 2 years less in comparison to reach this mark. This is even more shocking considering the game hasn’t had any deep discounts until now.
Currently, GTA 5 is the only game to have sold faster than Black Myth Wukong.

A DLC for Black Myth Wukong was in development but has since been shelved. Instead, Game Science has now diverted the focus towards making a new game in the series, titled “Black Myth Zhong Kui.”
Just like the first title, Black Myth Zhong Kui is also inspired by another character in Chinese folklore, Zhong Kui, who is regarded as a supernatural exorcist and an advocate for justice.
Being based on Chinese folklore was the reason half of Black Myth Wukong’s sales were from China, and expect similar results for the next entry. If anything, it’s exciting to see Game Science exploring more folklore, and with the quality they nailed in the first game, fans can expect an even bigger treat with the next title.
