- An insider has stated that a Devil May Cry 1 remake is in the works at Capcom.
- Production is far along on the title, but no release date is known as of yet.
- Furthermore, the game will be developed in RE Engine just like the 2019 title.
Ever since its revival in 2019, the Devil May Cry series has been put on the back burner at Capcom. The company released a Netflix adaptation of the IP last year, which turned out to be a massive success and caused a surge in Devil May Cry 5 players.
However, there is still no official word on a sequel to the action game, and many think that Capcom has once again forgotten about one of its premier offerings. As it turns out, a secret title has been in the works all along behind the curtains.
Why it matters: The action franchise is one of Capcom’s most prominent gems, and it’s time the company starts paying attention to it.

According to insider Major Playeix, A Devil May Cry 1 remake is in the works at Capcom, and the project is pretty far along in development. Just like Devil May Cry 5, this upcoming remake will also be built using Unreal Engine 5, as per the leaker.
Major Playeix failed to acquire more information about the game, declining to confirm if it would appear at the September State of Play. However, this leak does corroborate previous rumors from Vergil’s voice actor, who let slip that a Devil May Cry remake was in production last February.
In addition, previous leaks from Major Playeix regarding upcoming Sega games like Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi have turned out to be true. Hence, the leaker does hold credibility when it comes to unannounced titles.
A remake of Devil May Cry 1 also aligns with Capcom’s intentions to revive the action franchise. The Japanese gaming giant had previously stated that it wants to make Devil May Cry a core IP like Resident Evil.

Moreover, the Netflix series based on the franchise introduced Devil May Cry 5 to a new audience, with the title selling more units in 2025 than in its launch year. Hence, the timing has never been better to acquaint a new generation of fans with the first game in the series.
