It's About Time For A New Entry Capcom.

Story Highlight
  • Devil May Cry 5 sold 2.13 million copies in the first half of 2025 and is the best-selling Capcom game of this year so far.
  • Overall franchise sales are at 37 million now.
  • Currently, there’s no word on a new Devil May Cry entry but the demand for a new gmae is increasing rapidly.

In the pursuit of Resident Evil games, perhaps Capcom has forgotten about its magnum opus, Devil May Cry. The last entry was released 6 years ago, and even after this long, we’ve yet to hear from Capcom about a new project.

Surprisingly, Devil May Cry 5 is still at the top of Capcom’s charts and continues to sell well. In the first half of 2025, the game sold a whopping 2.13 million copies, becoming the publisher’s best-selling game of this year thus far.

Why it matters: This much sales even after 6 years of launch shows that fans are craving a new entry, and before the hiatus increases so much that Devil May Cry becomes a forgotten IP, Capcom needs to do something with it.

The Publisher’s Share Price Has Rapidly Declined This Year

As per Capcom’s latest financial results, Devil May Cry 5 sold nearly 1.7 million copies in Q1 2025, while sales slowed tremendously in Q2, falling to just 352k. The surge in sales was attributed to the Netflix adaptation, which helped introduce many new players to the IP.

Overall sales for the series are now at 37 million.

As such, it is the perfect moment for Capcom to announce a new entry, but the franchise is in a difficult position, especially after Hideaki Itsuno departed from Capcom in pursuit of a new entry.

CAPCOM
Japanese Studios Are More Innovative, Says DMC Creator

Capcom would need to find a new game director for future Devil May Cry games, and finding the replacement won’t be an easy task by any means. Hideaki Itsuno also believed that Devil May Cry 5 was the series at its peak, and topping that would be extremely hard.

Still, Capcom won’t know unless they try. Even production members from past entries are waiting for the publisher’s call to return for a new entry, but the IP’s future remains to be seen.
