Expect Restricted Steam Deck OLED Supply!

Story Highlight
  • Steam Deck OLED is facing a shortage and could soon be out-of-stock in some regions.
  • Valve has confirmed that the supply issue is due to the memory and storage shortages.
  • The company already quietly discontinued the base LCD screen version in December.

The memory crisis doesn’t seem to be getting better any time soon, and it’s affecting more products on the way. The latest to be affected are gaming handhelds, as Valve has revealed a worrying situation at its end, too.

Valve has confirmed that the Steam Deck OLED could be completely out of stock intermittently due to the ongoing memory and storage shortages. This is on top of the company already ending the LCD variant’s production

Why it matters: The AI boom has been a disaster, especially for gaming. Steam Deck OLED, despite being a bit outdated, is still a great bang for the buck, but gamers will now have to struggle to look for one as well.

If you go to the official Steam Deck page, there is a note that states that the memory crisis will lead to stock issues with the Steam Deck OLED. It also reaffirms the discontinued status of the base variant.

This is hardly surprising based on the circumstances. Valve recently announced a small delay with its new hardware, the Steam Machine, as well. It’s still launching this year, but the crisis could push its price to around $1000

Finding a Steam Deck in stock will be a huge struggle now

Analysts predict that the demand and supply will only improve in 2027, with chances that it could continue into 2028. Nonetheless, for gamers, this continues to be a nuisance, as PC gaming never cost this high before.
