The Iconic Horror Franchise Could Be Sold After EA's Takeover.

Story Highlight
  • The Dead Space franchise has been put on ice at EA, according to sources inside the company.
  • EA is not planning to produce a remake or a sequel.
  • However, there is hope that the company could sell the IP to recoup some cash.

Despite being one of the most iconic horror franchises in gaming, Dead Space hasn’t seen a new mainline entry in over a decade. The 2023 remake gave fans some hope that a fourth game could become a reality.

However, even with positive reviews and a decent performance on Steam, there has been no update from EA, and if leaks are true, Dead Space has no future at the company.

Why It Matters: Dead Space is the forefather of cosmic horror in the gaming world. EA shelving an iconic IP with so much potential is terrible, whatever way you look at it.

As reported by Mike Shaw on the Insider Gaming Podcast, the Dead Space franchise has been put on ice at EA. Due to the direction EA is taking right now, the insider doesn’t expect the game to be picked up anytime soon, whether it is for a remake or a fourth mainline entry.

What I’ve been told is [that] Dead Space…all the internal messaging points to the IP being ‘on ice’

This is especially disappointing, as the company surveyed fans regarding more Dead Space remakes and even hinted that Dead Space 2 could be next in line before cancelling it due to poor sales of the predecessor.

But, not all hope is lost, as Shaw’s sources reveal that EA could sell the IP following its takeover by Saudi Arabia. The country’s Public Investment Fund is not having the best time financially, and leakers inside EA predict that it could auction off Dead Space in a bid to bring in some cash.

Hence, the horror franchise could potentially have a new home when the deal closes, but as of now, it’s on the back burner. A new publisher could be the best solution for Dead Space, as creator Glen Schofield has been interested in a fourth title since 2024.

Schofield even announced plans to pitch Dead Space 4 to EA following its takeover from Saudi Arabia, but it seems like that didn’t pan out too well.
