We had high hopes that the new mid-tier RTX 5070 would surpass the aging RTX 4080. However, early reports on its performance have been less than promising. To check out the actual difference between their performance, efficiency, and value, let us start with the gaming benchmarks of the RTX 5070 vs RTX 4080. While the RTX 5070 features advanced architecture, the RTX 4080, offers more CUDA cores, a wider bus, and 4GB of extra memory. To evaluate their real performance, we tested the RTX 5070 vs RTX 4080 in eight games, some with ray tracing enabled and some disabled, at 1440p resolution for improved results. The gaming system we used for these benchmarks had the following specifications: The gaming benchmarks assess a graphics card’s performance, while productivity software provides another reliable measure. So, now we going to compare the RTX 5070 vs RTX 4080 using productivity testing tools. In our gaming benchmarks, the GeForce RTX 4080 topped in all games, with and without ray tracing, by a significant margin. Based on our computed average for the above games, the RTX 4080 provides roughly 30.1% better gaming performance than the RTX 5070 at 1440p. Analyzing the bottom 1% performance in tested games, the RTX 4080 delivered about 35.9% higher frame rates than the RTX 5070. Notably, the RTX 4080’s lowest 1% performance exceeded the RTX 5070’s average by 3.2%. The RTX 4080 conquers all productivity battles. Despite variations in individual tests, its overall productivity performance averages 35.4% higher than the RTX 5070. This emphasizes its top-tier capabilities to manage intensive workloads with accuracy. We expected the same power consumption from these graphics cards, as confirmed by our efficiency test, given their TDP ratings. In our tests, the RTX 4080 operated at around 33.3% higher power than the RTX 5070. While operating at its maximum, the RTX 5070 was around 23.9% more efficient than the RTX 4080. Under ideal conditions, both graphics cards sustain steady temperatures, with the RTX 4080 operating at 1°C higher temperature than the RTX 5070. Upon evaluating their gaming temperature, we found that the RTX 5070 is around 5.0% more thermally efficient than the RTX 4080. We have now reached the deciding part of this comparison. The RTX 5070 vanished from shelves within just two days of its launch, while the aging RTX 4080 remains elusive, with prices stubbornly refusing to drop below $1400. So, it is hard to evaluate the worth offered by these GPUs due to the current volatility in pricing. GeForce RTX 5070: The RTX 5070 is a cutting-edge graphics card optimized for 1080p and 1440p gaming. While we anticipated a stronger 4K performance, it falls short in that regard. If market shortages drive its price beyond $550, more compelling alternatives become available around the $600 mark. GeForce RTX 4080: The RTX 4080, equipped with 16GB of high-speed GDDR6X VRAM, strives to deliver exceptional performance, making it a formidable choice for immersive 4K gaming. Despite belonging to the previous generation, its ray tracing capabilities remain outstanding. We recommend the RTX 5070 as a compelling budget-friendly graphics card if priced at $550. However, beyond this price, its value diminishes. On the other hand, the RTX 4080 is a top-tier GPU for enjoying a better gaming experience, but the 4080 Super is more compelling option in our opinion if in range. DLSS 4 (Deep Learning Super Sampling) is NVIDIA’s AI-powered upscaling, improving speed and visuals. The RTX 5070 supports DLSS 4, featuring a Multi-Frame Generation technology. The RTX 5070 is built on NVIDIA’s cutting-edge Blackwell architecture and embodies a fusion of innovation and power. The RTX 4080 needs a 16-pin (12VHPWR) power connector, a recent standard for high-end GPUs. The RTX 5070 features 12GB of GDDR7 memory on a 192-bit bus, delivering a bandwidth of up to 672 GB/s. Yes, the RTX 4080 excels in 4K gaming, ensuring seamless performance at maximum settings. More From GeForce RTX 5070: More From GeForce RTX 4080: Thank you!
