Helldivers 2 Review Bombed After Requiring PlayStation Account on PC

Nearly All Recent Steam Reviews Are Negative!

Story Highlight
  • Helldivers 2, one of the biggest releases of 2024, is still popular on Steam.
  • A recent change makes linking a PlayStation account mandatory to play the co-op shooter on PC.
  • Steam players are furious over this requirement, leading to negative reviews for the game.

Helldivers 2, the 7th biggest PlayStation game in the US, has been dominating charts for a while. The co-op shooter has become remarkably popular, and the developer aims to make it as big as the franchises like God of War

Not only the live-service title but the developer has received a lot of praise from the fans. However, the team’s latest update has been quite controversial. Helldivers 2 now requires a PlayStation account on a PC.

Fans are not happy with this change, and many are now leaving negative reviews on Steam.

Why it matters: The number of launchers and accounts needed for PC gaming is quickly getting out of hand. Many users prefer Steam as their primary platform, so they dislike having to create more than one account.

The developer has explained why doing this is mandatory. According to Arrowhead Game Studios, this step was necessary as it would allow them to protect their players and uphold values of safety and security.

However, this requirement was not in place during the peak of this co-op shooter’s popularity. Such a requirement was in place when the game launched but was later removed.

Looking at Steam, nearly all recent reviews are negative. This includes newcomers with five hours on record and more experienced players with up to 50 hours of total playtime.

They are upset about having to create another account, with many even threatening to refund Helldivers 2.

Why wants to create a PSN account?

The biggest problem in this instance is not the requirement itself. Since many were already used to playing Helldivers 2 without any additional accounts, they were not keen on being forced to change things.

While this move has not caused any major damage for the time being, it might lead to a rare instance of negativity toward Arrowhead Game Studios.

PlayStation’s PC integration is set to expand further after the release of Ghost of Tsushima. This title will introduce trophy support, among other features, marking the beginning of a new era for Sony.
