Xbox Now Holds The Decision To Launch The Title on PlayStation!

Story Highlight
  • Hideo Kojima has revealed plans to extend Physint beyond just a game under Xbox.
  • He plans to make it a full franchise with movies, TV shows, dramas, anime, and more.
  • He also revealed that the decision to launch it on PlayStation now rests with Xbox.

Kojima Productions recently made headlines when it revealed that it will now be partnering with Xbox for Physint. A title that was previously funded by Sony, but the funding was pulled a few months ago, so the studio had to look elsewhere.

Today, the legendary Hideo Kojima has revealed a bunch of details about what happened during the Sony split and his plans for Physint. Following the Xbox partnership, he wants to turn the game into movies, TV, anime, and more.

Why it matters: Kojima has stated multiple times that he has always been interested in developing movies, and with Physint, a spiritual predecessor to Metal Gear Solid games, he is seeing his dream materialize into reality.

Kojima’s Physint will now be its whole franchise with films, shows, music, and more

In an interview with IGN, Hideo Kojima went in depth on his partnership with Xbox. He didn’t want to cancel the project since the actors were locked in and details had been finalized, so they had to find another partner.

I’m making this new IP, and I want to consider everything like movies, dramas, anime, TV, comics, music. Let’s create a new IP with all of this included.

– Kojima’s Pitch to Xbox

PlayStation recently pulled out of the game’s funding, and Xbox took over

But instead of just pitching it as a standalone title, Kojima pitched it as a full-on IP that will translate into movies, TV shows, dramas, comics, anime, and music. Xbox loved the pitch and decided to fund it.

So, under Xbox, Physint won’t just be a simple game: it will be a complete franchise that covers everything. Kojima further revealed that the decision now to release on PlayStation also rests in Xbox’s hands, so it could be an exclusive.
