- Kojima has revealed that PlayStation canceled production on Physint back in June.
- It will now be funded by Xbox, which is also involved with the studio’s project, OD.
- This is yet another major blunder by PlayStation, which has been under fire this year.
PlayStation has been on a hot streak of fumbles in recent years. From its live service policy terribly failing to inflating prices and cancelling discs, the company is truly under fire, and now it has tried to cancel yet another major project.
The legendary Hideo Kojima revealed that in mid-June he received a notice from PlayStation that they are cancelling the Physint project; however, Xbox has now stepped in and will fund it alongside OD.
Why it matters: Kojima has been a long-term PlayStation partner, releasing titles like Death Stranding 2 in collaboration, but cancelling a title like this mid-development will surely fracture their relationship.
As confirmed earlier through our official channels, in mid-June of this year, we unexpectedly received notice from PlayStation Studios that they would cancel the PHYSINT project. Kojima wrote that Physint is an important project to him and the studio, as it is aimed to be the spiritual successor to the Metal Gear franchise. Since the June cancellation, they had been looking for a partner and have finally found it.
Xbox has already been working with Kojima Productions on the development of its other major title, OD, and they’ve joined forces for Physint as well, which has been titled as their “genre-defining action-espionage title”.

This is a major fumble from PlayStation yet again, since Kojima is among the most legendary developers in the industry, and this won’t help their cause. Anyhow, it’s good to see Xbox stepping in to continue the development.
