Battlefield 2042: EA Is Moving On After Current Season

Season 7 Is The Final Season!

Story Highlight
  • EA is beginning to focus on its next Battlefield release.
  • Season 7 will mark the final major season for Battlefield 2042.
  • The game will receive maintenance support and new events, but the teams will focus on the future moving forward.

Battlefield 2042 certainly took its time to get going. Following one of the worst releases in DICE’s history, the game finally received positive feedback from players last year, thanks to subscriptions and new updates.

However, it seems EA is gearing up to repeat the same mistake it made with Battlefield 5. The publisher has just confirmed plans to move on, stating that Battlefield 2042’s support will end after this season.

Why it matters: The game has been on the market for less than three years, with most of its lifespan spent on fixing Battlefield 2042. Therefore, EA’s live-service ambitions can only be described as wasted potential.

Battlefield 2042 Update
Battlefield 2042 Has Improved A Lot In Recent Months

EA’s latest blog post confirms various changes to ensure the IP’s survival.

For starters, the Dead Space Remake team, currently leading Iron Man’s development, is being brought on to assist with Battlefield’s development. Moreover, the team confirmed intentions to focus on the future.

After Season 7 concludes, we are moving away from official seasons.

This means new content, including maps and weapons, will no longer be added to the game.

However, DICE will continue to support Battlefield 2042 with maintenance, balance updates, and events. This is oddly reminiscent of DICE’s announcement after Battlefield 5 recovered from its poor launch.

Hopefully, the team will be able to launch its next game in a much better state.

According to rumors, the next game could launch as early as 2025. With teams like EA Motive and developers like Vince Zampella leading the charge, there is reason to be excited about the future.

EA has previously promised a reimagining for the next game. Here’s hoping the team will remain faithful to Battlefield’s roots, finally reviving the series after its latest stumble.
