Stellar Blade Uses Frame-Generation On Switch 2 To Hit 60FPS

Interesting Choice To Target 60FPS On Switch 2!

Story Highlight
  • Stellar Blade’s Switch 2 version is aiming for 60FPS with help from frame generation tech.
  • The developer has confirmed that DLSS is being used for image quality, while FSR is part of the 60FPS target.
  • This choice could lead to a poor experience in the long run due to high latency from frame generation.

Stellar Blade is heading to the Nintendo Switch 2, and ahead of its release, Shift Up has shared important details about the port.

The team has confirmed a 60FPS target for the console, but more importantly, it has revealed how it will achieve this frame rate on the latest Nintendo hardware. According to Shift Up, frame generation is being used to achieve 60FPS.

Why it matters: Previously, games like Black Myth: Wukong used frame generation to reach 60FPS on consoles, and the results were not the best, since the technology is best used with a minimum frame rate of 60FPS.

According to Nintendo Everything, Stellar Blade on the console uses both DLSS and FSR.

DLSS is being used for image reconstruction, while FSR is involved in the frame-rate solution. The team uses FSR 3.1 frame generation to achieve 60FPS, allowing it to target this frame rate in both Docked and Handheld mode on the Nintendo Switch 2.

This is interesting, since frame generation is typically not recommended when the base frame rate is as low as 30FPS. Although doing so achieves 60FPS, it can lead to significant input delay in the final output.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see how Stellar Blade fares on the Nintendo Switch 2.

With other games like Black Myth: Wukong also rumored for the console, frame generation could show up in a similar manner in other titles on the console.
