GTA 6 Could Look And Run Much Better On The PS5 Pro!

Story Highlight
  • Game studios allegedly need to meet tough performance targets to gain the PS5 Pro enhanced badge.
  • Sony reportedly pressured Rockstar Games to have GTA 6 hit higher FPS or other performance metrics.
  • We might see GTA 6 run at 40 to 60 FPS on PS5 Pro compared to Xbox Series X and the base PS5.

There are expectations that we might see GTA 6 run at higher FPS on the PS5 Pro, and the latest leak has further ignited the rumor mill. A reliable insider has leaked Sony’s strict criteria for awarding the ‘PS5 Pro Enhanced’ badge to games.

It’s claimed that Sony also reportedly pressured Rockstar Games to have GTA 6 meet major performance upgrades on the PS5 Pro since it already has the Enhanced label on the platform. So, we may see a 40 to 60 FPS performance mode for GTA 6 on the console.

Why it matters: The leak confirms that Sony’s PS5 Pro Enhanced label is meant to set a hard technical target for studios. It also creates an expectation of smoother gameplay and richer visuals for players.

This report comes from Moore’s Law Is Dead, whose sources shared a leaked (reworded) document from Sony highlighting PS5 Pro Enhanced criteria for developers. Studios reportedly faced pressure from Sony to meet this technical checklist, including Rockstar.

we know that PS5 Pro enhanced is a badge GTA 6 has already. […] So, we know they had to meet these criteria. […] Sony says directly in a paragraph, we want higher frame rates, ray tracing, and resolution.

-Insider, Moore’s Law Is Dead.

Games can earn the Pro Enhanced badge if the developers meet specific performance targets, such as higher resolution, FPS, or improved ray tracing capabilities.

Moore clarifies that Sony would also push Rockstar pretty hard to achieve higher FPS since it would be a great marketing boost for the PS5 Pro. Therefore, GTA 6 is likely to have a 40 or 60 FPS performance mode on the console.

Simple incremental performance upgrades also don’t qualify games for the PS5 Pro Enhanced badge. So, even if GTA 6 still runs at 30 FPS on PS5 Pro, we might see enhanced resolution or ray tracing capabilities that stand out significantly from the base PS5.

For context, the game reportedly runs at 1440p native resolution on the base PS5 that is upscaled to 4K, according to Digital Foundry.
