Baldur’s Gate 3 is the one game from 2023 that can’t stop winning. While various releases competed for numerous prestigious awards in 2023, Larian Studios’ CRPG completely outclassed the competition.
Following a Game of the Year victory at The Game Awards, the title has bagged another major award. Steam has now joined the crowd, crowning Baldur’s Gate 3 as Game of the Year.
Why it matters: This result does not break the mold, but it certainly cements Larian Studios’ work as the most important release of 2023.

This year, Steam nominated the likes of Hogwarts Legacy, Resident Evil 4, and Lethal Company for this category. Hogwarts Legacy’s inclusion, in particular, was great to see since the game was unable to qualify for any category at The Game Awards.
Still, the outcome was fairly predictable. Baldur’s Gate 3 has received a massive audience on Steam in particular, and with the awards being community-voted, everyone already expected the game to pull through.
An excellent narrative, heaps of choices, and complex gameplay systems are just a few of the qualities that helped the game achieve this accolade. It also further cements the CRPG as the best-rated game of 2023.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has won the most Game of the Year awards in 2023, and this is just one more addition to a growing list.
The title has raised the bar for future RPGs. This is no easy task to accomplish, and the game has been awarded appropriately for a release accomplishing such a mighty task.
The fact that this game continues to reach hundreds of thousands of concurrent players on Steam is a testament to the excellence of its many qualities.
While games typically lose most of their player base in a few months, Baldur’s Gate 3 reached nearly 300K concurrent players on Steam yesterday, highlighting an upward trend for this CRPG.
