Baldur’s Gate 3 Reaches New Peak With 875K Concurrent Steam Players

Just 4K Short of Hogwarts Legacy's Record!

Baldur’s Gate 3 was already the second-biggest launch of 2023 on Steam. With Hogwarts Legacy at the top spot, the RPG was trailing by nearly 70K concurrent players. However, this is no longer the case.

While Hogwarts Legacy continues to be the most popular Steam launch of 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 nearly bridged the gap a few hours ago. Following the weekend, the game has reached over 875K concurrent players on Steam.

Why it matters: Compared to Baldur’s Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy belongs to a well-known IP appealing to all sorts of fans. The fact that the RPG came extremely close to Hogwarts Legacy makes it a huge achievement for Larian Studios.

A few days ago, a Redditor attempted to rally fans of Larian Studios’ RPG, hoping to break 1 million concurrent players. While the Redditor was unable to reach this figure, the game has been able to set a new concurrent player record compared to its previous figures.

At the time of writing, 349K players are still engaged in the RPG and its expansive storylines. Judging from recent popularity, it is still possible for Baldur’s Gate 3 to take the lead over Hogwarts Legacy in the coming days.

Apart from its Steam popularity, the game has become a massive hit among critics. With just over 25 reviews, Baldur’s Gate 3 has become the highest-rated Metacritic game of the year.

This success has likely encouraged thousands of new players to try the RPG genre. Prior to its release, the title was considered a niche release for dedicated fans of Larian Studios’ work.

However, the game has gone above and beyond, exceeding Larian Studios’ expectations in nearly every way possible.
