Won 54% of GOTY Awards In 2023!

Story Highlights
  • Baldur’s Gate 3 has already won many Game of the Year awards this year.
  • The RPG has won a total of 64 GOTY awards, sweeping nearly 54% of all the awards this year.
  • Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is also a strong contender, becoming the second most-awarded release in 2023.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has won multiple awards this year. To nobody’s surprise, it won the biggest awards at Golden Joystick and The Game Awards, becoming their Game of the Year despite the competition in 2023.

While games like Alan Wake 2 and Zeda: Tears of the Kingdom continue to win their fair share of awards, Larian Studios’ RPG is sweeping Game of the Year awards left and right, leading the race for the most GOTY titles.

Why it matters: Before the results, there were a few doubts about Baldur’s Gate 3 and its ability to win Game of the Year. However, these statistics have proven the game’s excellence as a modern CRPG.

As seen in the screenshot above, a website dedicated to tracking games and their awards counts 64 Game of the Year awards for Baldur’s Gate 3.

The title has won almost 54% of all the gaming awards this year. Following Baldur’s Gate 3, Nintendo’s most significant release of the year, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom stands in the second position on the list, collecting 29 awards.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has gathered nearly 25% of the awards this year. Third on the list is Remedy’s critically acclaimed horror game, Alan Wake 2, which has won around 15% of the awards with 18 trophies this year.

With 2024 looking like another exciting year for games, the industry may be ready to move on. However, following the impact and reception of Baldur’s Gate 3, this title has left a major mark and will be remembered for a very long time.

Despite the already impressive figures, this is not the end of Larian Studios’ domination. Baldur’s Gate 3 is still nominated for various awards, including the Steam and BAFTA Game of the Year.

Last year, Elden Ring swept away 73% of Game of the Year awards. Due to the increased competition in 2023, a single game has not been able to completely outclass the competition to such a great extent.
