Insomniac Games has released some of the best first-party games on PS5 over the last years, and it has been consistent in doing so.
No studio except this team has shown this much consistency this generation, and the studio has also maintained a high bar of quality at the same time. The developer is gearing up to release its third game since 2020 with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Anticipation is high for Spidey’s latest adventures, and many have appreciated the studio ahead of the upcoming release. Fans believe Insomniac Games is PlayStation’s best developer this generation.
Why it matters: PlayStation owns studios like Santa Monica, Naughty Dog, and more. All of these developers have pioneered genre-defining experiences in the past, but Insomniac Games appears to be on track to leave them behind this generation.
This consistent, quality Insomniac output is awesome! However, as a Sony 1st party fan, it begs the question.. where is the content from the other studios?? Granted I would presume Insomniac staff is bigger; but where are Bluepoint, Naughty Dog, Asobi, Bend, Housemarque??

Fans recently discussed the team’s quick-release output at a time when nearly every studio in the industry is struggling to create AAA games.
Among PlayStation’s first-party studios, Naughty Dog has only released The Last of Us Part 2 and a remaster over the last 5 years. Similarly, Santa Monica has been able to release two God of War games since 2018.
However, Insomniac Games has shown no signs of slowing down. Following Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the studio is gearing up to release its third original release over the last four years.
While Santa Monica is rumored to be working on a standalone project for God of War, the studio has only released one title since the launch of the PS5. On the other hand, Naughty Dog has been limited to remasters for PS5, with the developer reportedly canceling its multiplayer project recently.
Reports have indicated Marvel’s Wolverine could be released in 2024, which would mark another major title from Insomniac Games. If the report is to be believed, the developer will have released four games since the launch of the PS5 by then.
Therefore, fans believe the team is a highlight for PlayStation, with some saying it is carrying the PS5.

Some fans even believe Insomniac Games has surpassed Naughty Dog to become PlayStation’s best first-party developer.
Other PlayStation studios like Sucker Punch Productions have remained silent since 2020, but they are all hard at work on new projects.
However, till then, Insomniac Games has held the line for PlayStation. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is expected to be another promising title, using the PS5 hardware for new mechanics like instant fast travel and character swapping in the open world.
