Marvel’s Wolverine Reportedly Aiming For Mature Rating

Wolverine Will Be Rated M!

A brand new Wolverine title from Insomniac Games was revealed in 2021. The game was officially announced at the PlayStation showcase in 2021, but little has been said about Marvel’s Wolverine since then.

Recently, Microsoft published a document related to the Activision Blizzard acquisition where it was claimed that Marvel’s Wolverine was slated for 2023. While this was never confirmed, reliable industry insider Jeff Grubb has revealed some more details about Marvel’s Wolverine.

According to Jeff Grubb, Insomniac Games aims for a mature rating with Wolverine; it could be released in 2024.

While the release target is currently set for Fall 2024, Insomniac Games is also internally discussing the possibility of 2025

Jeff also mentioned that Wolverine is unlikely to be open-world, and Insomniac will likely choose to include open sections instead of a vast expansive world like Spider-Man. This makes sense when considering Wolverine’s traversal abilities.

Marvel’s Wolverine will also be a stand-alone product. It will not involve connections with the X-Men as the game is set before Wolverine joins the team. However, this does not exclude the possibility of subtle references to the X-Men.

A Mature rating for Wolverine is a great fit, and many fans were hoping that Insomniac Games would go with a mature theme for the character. Previously, it was reported that the Spec Ops: The Line writer is working as the Narrative Director for the game, which hinted at darker themes in the narrative.

Wolverine is also more violent and aggressive than characters like Spider-Man. Therefore, a game with a Mature rating would allow Insomniac Games to fully explore the character’s abilities and make for an immersive combat system for the beloved character.

Insomniac Games’ most anticipated game will be released in Fall 2023 with Spider-Man 2. Wolverine is next in line, and a 2024 release target sounds highly ambitious for the talented developer.

Marvel’s Wolverine will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 5, utilizing all the next-gen technology that the console offers for the ultimate Wolverine gaming experience.
