Black Myth: Wukong Is More of An Action RPG Than A Soulslike

The director of Phantom Blade Zero, Soulframe Liang, speaking to GamesRadar+, reveals that he expects the game in question to perform well enough to be a massive moment for the Chinese developers.

I think Black Myth: Wukong will be a big hit. Everyone is looking at Black Myth: Wukong. If it can succeed in the domestic market and international market, people will be very confident about other games.

Liang thinks that this game can succeed domestically as well as internationally, which is pretty believable. A massive fandom has been anticipating its release for a long time now. The developer managed to make fans even more delighted by revealing that it won’t be as punishing as you average souls-like games.

So, it is more like a God of War game, which is alright with most of the fans. The Phantom Blade director thinks that this game’s success will benefit the Chinese developers, too, as it will set a trend. Due to that trend, more Chinese developers will start to come in and try to meet the bar.

He also highlighted that such games are popular and successful, which actually benefits games like Phantom Blade Zero. So, if more Chinese action RPG games like Wukong can succeed, the audience will get bigger, and it will ultimately benefit the Chinese developers.

Before, Chinese developers didn’t really have a strong presence in the AAA gaming industry, but now they are starting to develop one. The future releases are going to help them a lot like Stellar Blade and Lies of P managed to help Korean Developers.
