Switch 2 Version Showing A Lot of Potential Now!

Story Highlight

  • Elden Ring now runs at a mostly steady 30FPS on Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Recent hands-on previews show FromSoftware has improved the game’s rougher earlier build.
  • This also bodes well for FromSoftware’s upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods.

Elden Ring was announced for the Nintendo Switch 2 last year, but the game was in poor shape almost immediately after it was shown off to previewers. Since then, FromSoftware appears to have been hard at work on bringing improvements to the title.

Latest previews of the Nintendo Switch 2 build suggest the game is now in a much better state.

Why it matters: The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to be Nintendo’s most extensively supported console ever, especially when it comes to third-party developers. As such, solid optimization for demanding games is a great sign.

As seen above, Elden Ring’s Nintendo Switch 2 version now shows clear performance improvements. The updated build now runs at a steady 30FPS a lot of the time, particularly in Docked Mode, addressing concerns raised by earlier hands-on impressions.

The game isn’t perfect, especially at 30FPS, but it does showcase a better experience for FromSoftware titles than fans were used to on the last-generation PS4 and Xbox One consoles due to poor frame-pacing.

Handheld Mode, on the other hand, does show noticeable frame-rate drops. Still, the experience seems impressive for the Nintendo Switch 2’s overall capabilities and Elden Ring’s scale.

This also means that FromSoftware’s optimizations will likely carry over to The Duskbloods. Previews for the game are expected to go live soon, but judging by the new Elden Ring footage, optimization won’t be a huge concern for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.

What do you think about the latest footage so far? Will you pick the game up on the Nintendo console?
