Story Highlight
  • The first descendant technical analysis is here, and an interesting thing has been revealed
  • It was found that PS5 outperforms Xbox Series X by a larger margin
  • As enabling frame generation 3, PS5 provided 50% more output than Xbox consoles

While 2024 has few RPG shooters released so far, the latest RPG shooter, The First Descendant, finally arrived on July 2. Although the game isn’t impressive for many, the reviews of the game are still at a negative end. The game has 10 million players.

However, the technical analysis of the game has surfaced online, and various intriguing details have been revealed.

Previously, Series X outperformed PS5 in many games. However, that’s not the case here, as PS5 has significantly better frames than Xbox.

Why It Matters: Xbox has an AMD GPU that has 12 teraflops while PS5 has almost 10 teraflops, the former outstands because of better upscaling capabilities.

Digital Foundry has analyzed the game in terms of technical performance. The First Descendant has three modes: graphics, performance, and balance mode on consoles.

So comparing the performance of the game on all modes, it was figured out that Sony’s consoles outperform the Xbox consoles by a significant margin.

Although both consoles perform equally in fidelity 30 FPS, balance 40 fps, and performance 60 fps modes, the difference between those lies when frame generation 3 is added.

With the frame generation 3 PS5 targets 90 FPS in all modes whereas the Xbox series X targets only 60 fps in those modes making 30 FPS shorter than PS5.

So, this illustrates that with frame generation 3 PS5 outperforms all consoles by 50 percent more frames output showing the powerful capabilities of its GPU in upscaling technologies.

Moreover, PS5 targets 30 FPS in fidelity mode so jumping from 30 to 90 is almost thrice boost which is incredibly good.

The First Descendant Has a Low Score On Metacritic

Although previously, Xbox Series X was ahead of PS5 in many games, with the inclusion of Frame Generation 3, it seems that in future games, PS5 will be the obvious choice.

Needless to say, Sony is launching the PS5 Pro which has even more upscaling capabilities, so it will make the Xbox series X more inferior choice for games.
