GTA 6 Has Made Almost $500 Million In Pre-Orders, 77% Sales Are On PS5 Reveals Analysis

The Game Has Also Surpassed One Million Copies Sold On Xbox Series Consoles.

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 has grossed $429 million from pre-order sales, selling 4.38 million copies according to Sensor Tower.
  • PlayStation players account for most of these pre-orders, with 77% of the sales happening on PS5.
  • The Ultimate Edition is also outselling the $80 variant by a huge margin, as previously revealed by analysts.

With Rockstar set to debut the first look at GTA 6 gameplay on Netflix later in August, the title’s marketing has finally kicked off this month. The hype for the open-world game is through the roof, and the US Army is even offering soldiers a four-day holiday to play GTA 6 if they re-enlist right now.

Pre-orders for the title have also done incredibly well so far, with Take-Two revealing that the Ultimate Edition is selling much better than the cheaper standard variant. Now, new data has disclosed that GTA 6 has already made almost $500 million despite being three months away from launch.

Why it matters: These numbers aren’t too surprising for a game as big as GTA 6. But such wild success in pre-orders alone really puts all the criticism for the lackluster marketing campaign into perspective.

According to analysis firm Sensor Tower, GTA 6 has grossed $429 million through pre-orders alone, selling a whopping 4.38 million copies worldwide. Unsurprisingly, the sales split is in favor of PS5, with the platform accounting for 77% of GTA 6 sales while Xbox Series X|S makes up the remaining 23%.

The Rockstar title has sold 3.38 million copies on PS5, according to analysts, bringing in $331 million in pre-order revenue. On the other hand, the game has also surpassed 1 million copies sold on Xbox Series X|S, taking the gross revenue on the platform to $98 million.

Sensor Tower previously revealed that the Ultimate Edition of GTA 6 was wildly outselling the standard variant, with the $100 edition accounting for 89% of the total pre-order sales, 4x more than the industry average. Hence, it’s no surprise that the Rockstar title has already grossed half a billion Dollars months away from launch.

The Rockstar title has made almost half a billion Dollars in pre-orders despite a lackluster marketing campaign.

With Rockstar partnering up with Netflix to attract gamers who wouldn’t necessarily buy the title day-one, these pre-order numbers will certainly break more records in the coming weeks.
