Spec Ops: The Line Remake Would Be Incredible!

Story Highlight
  • 2K has multiple projects in development, including an unannounced remake.
  • Spec Ops: The Line was recently delisted from online platforms, leading to speculation about this game coming back.
  • The game’s creative director and various people at 2K also want a re-release.

2K currently has multiple big AAA titles in the pipeline. Mainline entries for Bioshock, Borderlands, and Mafia are in development, while the publisher’s sports IPs continue to make millions each year.

The studio has previously dabbled in the modern trend of remaking classics, with the Mafia Definitive Edition serving as a great example. However, it seems 2K has another remake in development, and there is reason to believe that the project is related to Spec Ops: The Line.

Why it matters: The trend of remakes and remasters marks a tried-and-true formula for success. Publishers often rely on this strategy to maximize profits with minimum effort.

Spec Ops: The Line Remains One Of The Most Underrated Titles From 2K

According to Brett Shupe’s LinkedIn profile, who works as a 3D artist at 2K, the publisher has more than one unannounced title in the pipeline. These include a sports title, a remake, and another unknown project.

While the remake’s identity is unknown, Spec Ops: The Line and Bioshock seem to be the most obvious candidates. However, the latter has already received a remaster for modern consoles.

In the former’s case, it was recently delisted from online storefronts. While 2K cited licensing issues as the reason for the delisting, this may have been a sign of an upcoming remake.

Spec Ops: The Line has garnered a cult-like following in recent years thanks to its incredibly powerful take on war stories. This would make it a top candidate for the remake treatment at 2K.

Interestingly, creative director Cory Davis previously hinted at such a re-release, stating that various people at 2K want to revisit the IP.

The game delivered an incredibly memorable story but fell somewhat short in presentation and gameplay. Therefore, a remake would add various much-needed improvements to enhance the experience further.

2K has also accelerated the development of Bioshock 4 recently. All in all, the publisher has great ambitions for the future, with a remake bringing the promise of further success alongside these big new releases.
