Sony created a massive uproar when it announced the end of discs starting from 2028. While this hasn’t resulted in anything, many fans threatened to boycott the console. However, Xbox seems to be taking a different route. 

Instead of ending discs and breaking the news to its users, Microsoft is asking Xbox users if they want a disc drive in the next-gen Helix console. This seems like a very smart move, and proof that Xbox at least is listening. 

Why it matters: The new CEO, Asha Sharma, has shown strong commitment to listening to fan feedback. She even revealed that she had been going undercover and resolving support tickets to help the customer experience. 

In a survey form, sent to users, Xbox asked users a bunch of things to see if they wanted to be included in the future. Among these is the question if the next-gen Xbox should allow installing games from physical discs. 

Now, we know that despite the falling physical ratio, there are still millions of advocates for physical media, and if the survey reflects that, it will likely mean that the Xbox Helix might ship with a disc drive. 

Previously, Sharma also stated that they want to give their users options, hinting that Xbox is sticking with discs. If this happens and Xbox stays consistent with exclusives, a lot of fans could get the Helix instead of the PS6.
