- Xbox recently went through some major structural changes and appointed a new CSO.
- Ball aims to revive older single-player games and focus on the console business.
- This is a pivot from its older approach, where publishing had become the main focus.
Xbox is undergoing major structural changes, the biggest of which was the appointment of Asha Sharma as CEO, replacing Phil Spencer. Those changes are apparently working, as fans believe Sharma is already doing a better job.
Recently, the company also appointed a new CSO, who formerly worked at Amazon Gaming. In a statement, he says that Xbox is aiming to revive its legendary story-based games and focus on the console business.
Why it matters: Of course, things had become quite different under Phil Spencer, as Xbox transitioned to more of a publisher than a console maker, which upset a huge chunk of its fans, leading to a shift towards PS5.

In an interview with Bloomberg, the new CSO of Xbox, Matthew Ball, showed commitment towards restoring the company to its former glory, which includes reviving older franchises and focusing on consoles.
He explicitly stated that they want to revive ‘story-based games’, which suggests we will see more single-player games from Xbox in the future. Fans would love to see older series like Banjo, Perfect Dark, and more return.

Obviously, Asha Sharma has also shown a strong commitment towards hardware for the future. Ball also says that the console business can still expand and grow, and the revenue will follow if they deliver great quality.

Abdullah is an avid gamer who primarily plays single-player titles. If you can’t find him anywhere, he’ll probably be at his desk playing The Witcher 3 for the millionth time. When he isn’t playing games, he’s either reading or writing about them.
