Story Highlight
  • Xbox console business isn’t in decline, and it’s actually growing, says company CSO.
  • Many believed that the poor sales of the Series consoles would lead to their eventual demise.
  • However, Xbox’s image has improved, and sales have improved in recent months.

Xbox has seen a bit of a resurgence under its new leadership, but in the larger context, many still believe that the company is struggling. It is also believed that their console business might be on the decline, but they have negated that.

In a recent interview, the Xbox CSO claimed that the claims of their console business dying or being on a decline are completely false; instead, it is doing well and even growing. He states that this year will be great for them.

Why it matters: Xbox sales had dropped beneath the red line at one point, reaching so low that there were discussions that the consoles might completely die. However, they have had a bit of a boost in recent months.

Xbox says its console business is growing and will continue to grow

We have no desire to move away from the console business. And dying? No. It’s not declining. It is growing. It’s going to be a great year this year.

– Matthew Ball

Talking to Game Informer, Matthew Ball talked about the doubts people have about Xbox consoles. He said that the claims that the business is dying are wrong, and it is indeed growing and will continue to do so.

Last month, Xbox Series sales increased while PS5 sales dropped

They plan to rebuild the business in the coming months and are aware of the places they lack. He further talked about the wider landscape and stated that the overall console market isn’t in decline either, regardless of claims.

Xbox, as a company, is changing drastically, and the CEO has pointed towards potential hard changes. There are reports of layoffs and studio closures as well, but they want to focus on long-term goals and keep growing the console business.
