In a recent interview, the Xbox CSO claimed that the claims of their console business dying or being on a decline are completely false; instead, it is doing well and even growing. He states that this year will be great for them. 

Why it matters: Xbox sales had dropped beneath the red line at one point, reaching so low that there were discussions that the consoles might completely die. However, they have had a bit of a boost in recent months.

We have no desire to move away from the console business. And dying? No. It’s not declining. It is growing. It’s going to be a great year this year.

Talking to Game Informer, Matthew Ball talked about the doubts people have about Xbox consoles. He said that the claims that the business is dying are wrong, and it is indeed growing and will continue to do so.

They plan to rebuild the business in the coming months and are aware of the places they lack. He further talked about the wider landscape and stated that the overall console market isn’t in decline either, regardless of claims.

Xbox, as a company, is changing drastically, and the CEO has pointed towards potential hard changes. There are reports of layoffs and studio closures as well, but they want to focus on long-term goals and keep growing the console business.
