Due To The Memory Crisis, The Company Can't Manufacture Them As Fast They Can.

Story Highlight
  • According to CFO Matthew Ball, the demand for Xbox consoles is outpacing supply.
  • The company can’t manufacture the consoles at a higher pace because of the AI crisis.
  • The CFO is looking at ways the company can change so Project Helix doesn’t face this issue.

Ever since the appointment of Asha Sharma, the buzz around Xbox has completely shifted. The price of the company’s premier Game Pass tier has been slashed, and the new CEO has also brought back exclusives to the platform.

But, Sharma still has a lot of work to do before Xbox can compete with PlayStation, and that starts with increasing the sales of its hardware. According to the company’s CFO, however, the demand for the Series X is still there, and the company is finding it hard to keep up with it.

Why it matters: The AI boom has severely curtailed the selling power of gaming giants like Xbox and PlayStation. Companies can only hope the memory crisis subsides by the time next-gen hardware launches.

Despite price increases, the demand for the Xbox Series family is still there.

While talking to Game Business at Summer Game Fest, Matthew Ball revealed that the demand for Xbox consoles is greatly outpacing the supply. The company’s CFO revealed that they are producing them as quickly as possible, but there is a limitation to how fast hardware can be manufactured due to the AI boom.

We are producing them as quickly as possible. These is a severe limitation to how quickly we can do that, but it’s not a question of appetite. That is a prilvege as a company. It is a challenge for us to figure out.

According to Ball, the appetite of customers is not an issue, and this problem is a privilege that Xbox has to face. The CFO also talked about Project Helix and how the company is rethinking its approach to the console so this challenge doesn’t arise in the next generation.

As Asha Sharma mentioned previously, Matthew Ball declared that the gaming giant is aware of the steps it can take to make Project Helix more affordable and flexible for consumers, even if the memory crisis keeps affecting the gaming business for the next two years.

Xbox is making moves to make sure Project Helix doesn’t face this issue.

Many insiders have already predicted that memory shortages could delay next-generation hardware after curtailing the sales of current-gen consoles, and one can only hope this doesn’t happen.
