- Gears of War E-Day has been officially announced for an October 16 release date.
- The title marks a major shift in strategy as Xbox returns to console exclusivity.
- Asha Sharma previously hinted that exclusives could return soon at Xbox.
The Xbox Games Showcase just capped off a week full of great announcements. We just got a bunch of announcements from the event, including the new Gears’ release platforms, which had been a topic of debate from earlier this morning.
Microsoft has revealed that Gears of War E-Day will release on October 16, and it will indeed mark the return of exclusives for Xbox. Previously slated for a PS5 release, Gears will now completely skip the platform.
Why it matters: This is a huge shift in strategy since Xbox had gone full multiplatform under Phil Spencer. Ever since Sharma took over, she had been dropping subtle hints of a return to exclusives, and it’s happening now.
Microsoft kicked off today’s Xbox Games Showcase with an exclusive look at Gear of War E-Day gameplay, with the release set for October 16, but more importantly, the title will be an exclusive to the console.
Anyhow, Gear E-Day looks outstanding from the gameplay we just saw. It has all the elements and action from the previous game, but dialed up a notch. The combat looks lethal, gory, and bloody.

In addition, the visuals look amazing too, highlighting how tech has evolved since the last Gears title. This already seems like a huge hit in the making, and since it is an exclusive, it could even boost Xbox console sales.
