Xbox Is Looking to Evolve As A Brand!

Story Highlight
  • Xbox wants to add more third-party exclusives and acquire more studios in the future.
  • The CEO says that it is essential if they want to compete in the ever-growing market.
  • The company has already brought back first-party exclusives with Gears E-Day.

Xbox recently made headlines when it announced that Gears of War E-Day will be a console exclusive, reigniting console wars in the process. Asha Sharma has made some drastic changes ever since she took over, and wants to do even more.

The Xbox boss says that they possibly need more third-party exclusives, mergers, and acquisitions if they want to compete in the market across multiple divisions. This comes after recent rumors of incoming layoffs.

Why it matters: It is clear that Xbox is certainly changing its identity and going through a complete restructuring to evolve as a company. Sharma stated that she wants the brand to become the biggest gaming company by 2030.

Xbox is looking to evolve under its new leadership

In a recent Xbox Wire post, Asha Sharma went candid about the future of the company. She said that, along with first-party exclusives, they want new third-party ones as well, and are once again looking towards new acquisitions.

We want a reliable pipeline of first- and third-party exclusives, and new IP is critical to our success.

It isn’t like they haven’t had any third-party exclusives in recent years. In fact, Stalker 2 was exclusive at launch and came to PS5 a year later. However, the ratio is too low to matter as they have been really scarce.

Going forward, we’ll evolve and rebuild our stack and look at capabilities across all of XBOX and potential M&A to help us win in hardware, PC, mobile, and streaming.

Even veterans like Kojima haven’t released Death Stranding 2 on Xbox yet. The prospect of new mergers is interesting since layoffs and studio closures are rumored, so they could be the result of the crossfire during the restructuring.
