- The ROG Xbox Ally X20 offers an OLED upgrade for Asus’ handheld.
- This model of the handheld costs $1300, a $300 price hike over the standard ROG Xbox Ally X.
- Asus is also offering a $2500 bundle, which comes with XR glasses.
The handheld games market has grown significantly in a few years, with the likes of Lenovo and Asus making a name for themselves lately. Xbox also partnered with Asus to offer the ROG Xbox Ally X, making this one of the most capable handhelds on the market.
Asus is now making up for one of the few weaknesses of this handheld, offering it in a new flavor with an OLED screen.
Why it matters: Gamers typically enjoy OLED screens on handhelds due to added vibrance and quality of this display technology. This addition makes the Xbox Ally X even better.
Asus’ ROG Xbox Ally X20 offers a 7.4″ OLED screen and costs $1,300. The company has also introduced TMR joysticks and a transforming D-pad with the new model.
Everything else about the handheld remains virtually the same as the standard ROG Xbox Ally X, including the Ryzen Z2 Extreme SoC. As such, the OLED screen is the star of the show, but whether it’s worth an additional $300 is for audiences to decide.
Elsewhere, Asus is selling a bundle with both the Xbox Ally X20 and ROG Xteal R1 glasses for $2500. This bundle, however, is best avoided, since it doesn’t add much to the handheld, and even the glasses are overpriced as part of this bundle.
Other handhelds, such as the Steam Deck, already offer OLED options. However, this particular handheld has seen quite a hefty price hike recently, so the Xbox Ally X20 looks like a better buy.
