KyTyPS5 has been leading the race for PS5 emulation, showing unexpected progress in titles like Demon’s Souls and GTA 5. The emulator also booted Marvel’s Wolverine for the first time recently, and days after that happened, KyTyPS5 now appears capable of running the game at 20FPS.

Why it matters: Gamers are now more convinced than ever that major PS5 releases, such as the upcoming GTA 6, will eventually become playable on PC due to the rapid progress of PS5 emulation.

The above video shows Marvel’s Wolverine running at up to 20FPS during the game’s opening section when using an RTX 4080 and Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

The game still drops to single-digit frame rates during gameplay, but the progress itself is remarkable simply because it wasn’t long ago that the title could barely move beyond the menus.

One reason emulation is progressing so fast right now is due to generative AI and its capabilities of reverse-engineering games. This is the same reason many recompilations and never-before-seen mods have started popping up on social media.

Anyhow, it would not be all too shocking to see Marvel’s Wolverine running at 30FPS or more in the coming weeks.
