PlayStation Made Twice As Much Revenue From PC As Xbox Did From PS5 Ports, Reveals Analyst

Expert Verified By

According To Analysts, Sony's Multi-Platform Pivot Has Been More Successful.

Story Highlight
  • As of November 2025, PlayStation has made $1.2 billion from PC ports.
  • On the other hand, Xbox has grossed $667 million only from putting its games on the PS5.
  • Despite generating twice as much revenue, PlayStation has been more averse to the multi-platform pivot than Xbox.

Exclusives have suddenly become the most important aspect of a platform, with both Sony and Xbox suddenly discarding their multiplatform strategy. The latter officially declared the return of exclusive games to Xbox consoles at the recent showcase, and CEO Asha Sharma promised more in the future.

On the other hand, Sony has removed all mentions of PC ports from its annual report, with insiders stating that single-player titles will stay exclusive to PlayStation. As it turns out, the Japanese giant has actually found more success from its PC pivot than Xbox has on PS5.

Why it matters: Sony deeming PC ports not worth the brand damage, despite generating more revenue from its multi-platform strategy than Xbox, showcases how the Japanese company values its platform more.

According to Alinea Analytics, PlayStation has generated almost twice as much revenue from PC ports as Xbox has from putting its games on the PS5. As of April 29, 2026, first-party Xbox titles that released on the PS5 have grossed $667 million for Microsoft after giving Sony its cut.

On the other hand, PlayStation exclusives on PC have brought in more than $1.5 billion for the company. After giving Valve its share, which amounts to $350 million according to the analysts, the Japanese gaming giant still took home $1.2 billion from PC ports as of November 21, 2025

Regardless of the time gap between the two reports, it’s pretty clear that PlayStation has found a lot more success from its multi-platform pivot. Despite generating twice the revenue, however, PlayStation has kept insisting on how the revenue it’s making from PC ports isn’t enough to cover the brand damage incurred from putting exclusives on Steam.

Xbox on PS5
Overall, Xbox has underwhelmed on the PlayStation 5.

Meanwhile, Xbox considers the multi-platform strategy an important source of revenue and only switched to exclusives recently after fan demand. Hence, these numbers really put the attitude of the gaming giants into perspective, showing which console maker values their platform more.
