Nintendo Direct Also Expected During Same Month!

Story Highlights
  • A reliable leaker has revealed that a PlayStation State of Play is coming in a few weeks.
  • The leaker also revealed that a Nintendo Direct will be coming in February.
  • This means every major console manufacturer will have something to show off in early 2024.

Last month, The Game Awards crowned Baldur’s Gate 3 victorious and presented a slew of new game trailers like Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, Rise of the Ronin, and more. Following this event, an Xbox Developer Direct is scheduled for 18 January.

A leaker suggests that even more showcases are coming soon. According to Jeff Grubb, 2024’s first PlayStation State of Play will come in a few weeks.

Why it matters: Going by the leak, all three console manufacturers will have something to showcase within the first two months of 2024, setting an exciting precedent for the rest of the year.

During his latest Twitch livestream, Jeff Grubb said:

“There’s a State of Play coming. When exactly? Not sure, but I’d expect it in the next few weeks.”

In the video, Jeff Grubb also speculated that a Nintendo Direct would be coming in February. He is almost certain it will happen, so there is little doubt about Nintendo’s first showcase for 2024.

Still, this Direct is unlikely to focus too much on Nintendo’s future. Fans should not expect to learn about the Nintendo Switch 2 at this event since it will likely be the last major showcase focusing on the gaming giant’s current console.

Grubb has proven to be a reliable leaker, so three events seem to be locked in for early 2024. He also accurately spoke about the recently announced Xbox Developer Direct, leaving little doubt about his credibility.

For now, the first event to look forward to is the Xbox Developer Direct. The event will feature games like Hellblade 2, Avowed, and Indiana Jones. Also, just as the event was officially announced, a rumor about Indiana Jones’s release in 2024 surfaced.

Regarding the State of Play, it would be wise not to set expectations too high. Jeff has claimed that State of Plays are always unpredictable and can be disappointing. However, one notable game we expect in a State of Play is Death Stranding 2.

Quite surprisingly, it was missing from The Game Awards 2023, and past evidence has suggested that Hideo Kojima was preparing a trailer for a State of Play.
