PS5 Owners Could Soon Play 2024's Biggest Game!

Story Highlight
  • Palworld is currently available on Xbox Series S|X and PC.
  • The game could be headed to PS5 soon since Pocketpair is in talks with other platforms.
  • Pocketpair is also open to being acquired for future security.

Palworld has been the biggest success story of 2024 so far. While the game may not have retained its player base, its sudden burst of popularity raised many eyebrows throughout the industry.

For now, the game is available on PC and Xbox Series S|X consoles. However, Pocketpair is keen on capitalizing on the current popularity, hinting at intentions to expand beyond Microsoft’s ecosystem.

Why it matters: PlayStation is the biggest console platform, so a release on PS5 could prove to be another major boost for Palworld.

In a new interview with Bloomberg, the CEO of Pocketpair discussed Palworld’s development, its current success, and future plans.

According to the CEO, Palworld had a budget of merely $6.7 million, making it much more profitable than nearly every game released in recent years. It was also created by a team of just 55 developers.

On the subject of expanding Palworld, Pocketpair intends to release the game on other platforms. While no specifics were revealed, the PS5 is an obvious choice, with a launch as part of PS Plus possible, too.

According to the interview, the team is already in talks, suggesting that plans are rapidly moving ahead. Meanwhile, Pocketpair also anticipates being acquired amid its current success.

The gaming giant does not mind its current status, but an acquisition would help it manage the live service better.

Palworld is too big for a studio with our size to handle.

Palworld has achieved over 19 million players and is now Steam’s second-biggest game by concurrent player count.

To continue this successful run, Pocketpair has begun teasing new content. A new trailer has been released for the first raid, and more features like PVP are planned for future updates.

Palworld’s availability on other platforms could fill the large gap left by Pokemon’s exclusivity. With both games offering a similar premise, many believe that Nintendo should consider a multiplatform approach after this success.
