Resident Evil Requiem Physical Stock Running Out As Game Sold Out Everywhere

Story Highlight
  • Demand for Resident Evil Requiem is incredibly high, and it seems Capcom is struggling to keep up.
  • The title is no longer available to buy physically across most storefronts.
  • Many gamers who had already purchased the game are now reporting delays and cancellations to their orders.

Resident Evil Requiem has become one of Capcom’s most critically acclaimed titles already, and it seems gamers around the globe are excited to finally try the series’ latest offering.

Previously, analysts predicted that Resident Evil Requiem would end up as one of the best-selling entries in the series, and this prediction appears to have been spot on. Reports on social media suggest that the game is currently sold out across multiple stores.

Why it matters: Physical copies of games don’t typically sell out, even in cases of extremely anticipated releases.

As reported by Shinobi602, Resident Evil Requiem was already sold out in stores like Walmart, GameStop, and Amazon soon after the reviews went live. At the time of writing, this is still the case, and it seems many gamers are now beginning to lose patience.

Many have taken to social media to share the status of their Amazon pre-orders. Users BlackMajikMan90 and JimAlan shared screenshots confirming that their orders had been pushed back further to later than the February 27 release date.

Some, like SavageCitizen, have yet to even receive an estimated release date for their Amazon pre-order. As VicariousNick points out, the situation isn’t too different for orders placed on the GameStop website.

The silver lining is that Resident Evil Requiem can still be bought digitally for those unwilling to wait. Capcom has likely been made aware of the demand for the physical edition and will work on increasing stock levels, but till then, it seems the digital option remains the best choice for those looking to play the game on day one.

Previously, this phenomenon was observed when Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 sold out across multiple storefronts. If this similarity is any hint, Capcom is in for unprecedented success come Resident Evil Requiem’s launch.

Major Poll of Nearly a Million Votes Shows Most Gamers Don’t Care About Multiplayer Games

Story Highlight
  • A new poll with nearly a million votes shows that most prefer single-player games.
  • They prefer story elements over anything.
  • The multiplayer genre has also become increasingly fatiguing and stagnated recently.

The gaming industry has been pushing multiplayer games really hard in the last few years to the point that this genre has become incredibly saturated and fatigued. In the search for nailing the perfect live-service title, publishers have poured hundreds of millions of dollars down the drain.

Gamers themselves don’t like this push and have continued to retaliate. In fact, there are several studies and cases of gamers voicing their disinterest in this genre, including this poll with nearly a million votes, in which more than half of the respondents say they don’t care about multiplayer games.

Why it matters: Multiplayer games themselves aren’t bad, but it’s the publisher forcing elements gamers dislike, including live-service elements and, more importantly, microtransactions, which are a huge issue in the industry.

Major Poll Revealing What Gamers Prefer In Titles || YouTube

FaulesGaming posted this poll on YouTube, which has amassed 834,000 votes in just 20 hours. The poll asking “What do you care about less over time?” gave 4 options: Graphics, Story, Difficulty, and Multiplayer.

Unsurprisingly, the Multiplayer option received the most votes, followed by Graphics, then Difficulty, and lastly Story. It has been made pretty clear that a good story is what hooks most people to games in the first place.

One notable comment under the poll also had the following to say:

I’d play a game that looks like a PS1 game if it was fun to play and had a good story and characters.

It does make sense, since single-player games are here to stay, whereas multiplayer titles will cease to exist in just a few years from launch. Graphics are also an aspect gamers seem to care a little about, and in the past few years, we’ve hit a bit of a roadblock.

Single Player Games
Another Study Previously Showed 53% Gamers Preferred Single-Player Games Over Multiplayer

Games can’t get any better looking than what we have now. The only things developers can improve are art style and attention to detail. Difficulty is also an element that really depends on the player, but we’ve seen that gamers have become open to extremely challenging titles in the past few years, since the rise of the Souls genre.

For the story, there really isn’t a compromise, and any game lacking that element is considered a flop. In fact, a near-perfect release with a lacking narrative can ruin the entire experience, i.e., Duke Nukem Forever.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe Looks So Good That All of Ubisoft Wants To Work On It, Says Insider

Story Highlight
  • Hopes are extremely high for Assassin’s Creed Hexe within Ubisoft.
  • An insider says that everyone at the studio is ready to jump on the development team due to how good the game looks so far.
  • Assassin’s Creed Hexe brings a fresh spin on the series with supernatural elements and a 16th century setting.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe is the next mainline entry for the series after Shadows, and it certainly sounds like the most different title the IP has seen in years.

Perhaps this is why Ubisoft developers are said to be excited about the project. Despite a recent shakeup within the Assassin’s Creed Hexe development team, an insider states that the game has everyone at Ubisoft fired up.

Why it matters: The French gaming giant’s continued turmoil has led to low morale around the studio, so this is a good sign as the team works toward a comeback.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe will be the first title in the franchise that takes a darker, supernatural path

Commenting on Assassin’s Creed Hexe director Clint Hocking and his recent departure, insider Tom Henderson noted that this isn’t necessarily a red flag for the game.

In fact, he stated that everyone at Ubisoft is currently willing to work on the project. According to Tom Henderson, the game is shaping up to be quite good overall, something the development team is also aware of.

Hexe is the one project everyone at Ubisoft wants to work on because of how good it’s shaping up to be.

-Tom Henderson

Prior to this statement, it was already known that Assassin’s Creed Hexe would take the series back to a smaller scale and tackle brand new themes of supernatural elements and 16th century witchcraft.

It appears it’s no coincidence, then, that the developers are so pumped up. Perhaps the fresh style has made this Assassin’s Creed project more appealing to the team than the typical Ubisoft open-world adventure.

Assassin's Creed Codename HEXE
Hexe Is Expected To Launch Next Year

Although insiders believed Ubisoft would have the title ready for launch by the end of 2026, new updates suggest Assassin’s Creed Hexe won’t be ready until 2027. Moreover, this is just one of the many Assassin’s Creed titles the publisher is currently working on.

Resident Evil Requiem Delivers Flawless Optimization, Running 60 FPS on PS5 and Series X|S

Story Highlight
  • Resident Evil Requiem is masterfully optimized for consoles across the board.
  • The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S manage to deliver a smooth, solid 60 FPS experience.
  • PS5 Pro is a huge upgrade with better visuals, ray tracing, and 120 FPS support.

Resident Evil Requiem reviews dropped yesterday, and it managed to score the highest Metacritic score in the series in over 20 years. Capcom has also absolutely nailed it with optimization, which is an issue for most modern releases.

Testing reveals how fantastic Resident Evil Requiem is for all consoles, even the Xbox Series S, which is usually considered the bottleneck. But the PS5 Pro is where it shines the most with a dedicated ray tracing mode.

Why it matters: In a world where optimization remains the biggest challenge for most studios, Capcom has done a brilliant job. It even utilizes the full potential of the PS5 Pro, which most studios skip.

Digital Foundry has dropped its in-depth analysis of Resident Evil Requiem for consoles. This is one of those rare occasions when a game is genuinely an upgrade on the PS5 Pro compared to the base console.

The Pro console has 2 modes: Ray Tracing On and Ray Tracing Off. The difference ray tracing makes is insane with super high resolution, brilliant lighting, and reflections. The other mode offers 120 FPS, but at a lower resolution.

The game offers smooth gameplay across the board

The game is also perfect on PS5 and Xbox Series X, delivering great quality visuals, running at a solid 60 FPS, with minor to no frame drops. Even the Xbox Series S manages a very smooth 60 FPS experience.

However, the quality is notably worse on the latter. Despite this, Digital Foundry has praised how nicely it scales across the board. Anyhow, along with great reviews, Resident Evil Requiem also boasts great optimization.

Wolfenstein 3 appears to be in full production following a casting call

Resident Evil Requiem Becomes the Series’ Highest-Rated Mainline Entry in Over 20 Years

Story Highlight
  • Resident Evil Requiem has scored 89 on Metacritic, becoming the series’ highest-rated new release in over 2 decades.
  • 2005’s Resident Evil 4 held the previous record.
  • Resident Evil Requiem is already Steam’s best-seller and is looking to be our first GOTY contender for 2026.

With less than 48 hours left till the game’s launch, the review embargo for Resident Evil Requiem has been lifted, and spoiler alert: fans can expect nothing less than a masterpiece.

Already a critical success, Resident Evil Requiem has earned an impressive 89/100 on Metacritic. This makes the game the highest-rated mainline entry in the series in nearly 21 years, a feat previously held by 2005’s Resident Evil 4.

Why it matters: Recent Resident Evil games have all maintained consistent quality, but many of those releases were remakes of earlier entries. Now, with a new mainline release, Capcom has shown that it still has it in them to deliver the same level of quality after all these years.

Resident Evil Requiem Leon
The Game Is Already Steam’s Best-Seller Ahead Of Launch

For reference, here’s the Metacritic score of all mainline Resident Evil games since 2005.

As seen, Resident Evil Requiem beats out 2021’s Village by 5 points. One of the biggest reasons for this game’s success is Leon Kennedy’s return. His appearance was one of the longest-running rumors in the gaming industry.

Resident Evil Code Veronica
A Code Veronica Remake Is Planned For Next Year, With A Reveal Planned Within The Next Few Months

Leon Kennedy stars alongside Grace Ashcroft in this game, the latter of whom is a brand-new character, an FBI agent. Grace’s gameplay sequence brings the series back to its survival-horror roots, while Leon’s part is more action-oriented.

Hence, both different playstyles create a contrast that works really well. In any case, it seems that Resident Evil Requiem is 2026’s first GOTY contender. The game launches on February 27th, and beyond the base game’s release, insider also expects a DLC expansion later this year.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe Director Exits Ubisoft in Major Shakeup, Black Flag Director Takes Charge

Story Highlight
  • Assassin’s Creed Hexe creative director, Clint Hocking, has now been replaced following leadership changes.
  • Jean Guesdon, director of Black Flag and the series’ brand manager, has now filled the role.
  • This move raises caution, especially since the game is in the late stage of development.

Now at rock bottom, Ubisoft is seeking a comeback, which has led to massive changes at the publisher. Just recently, their new strategic restructuring resulted in the purge of several upcoming titles, including the Sands of Time remake, as well as layoffs across multiple studios.

Notably, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has now also seen a leadership change, with the director of Black Flag now leading the series’ future. This power shift has now also led to the creative director of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Hexe to part ways with the publisher.

Why it matters: Ubisoft aims to make its core IPs billion-dollar franchises; it is taking what it believes are drastic measures to ensure high quality across all its upcoming releases.

Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag
This Year’s Assassin’s Creed Release Is The Remake Of 2014’s Black Flag

As a Ubisoft spokesperson tells VGC, Clint Hocking, the creative director for Assassin’s Creed Hexe, will be replaced by Jean Guesdon, the director behind Assassin’s Creed Black Flag and now also the series’ brand manager.

“We sincerely thank (Clint) for his vision, creative contributions, and dedication over the years, and we wish him the very best in his next chapter,”

While Clint Hocking has a great portfolio, notably as a creative director on Far Cry 2 and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, his more recent work has been somewhat lacking. He was also the creative director behind Watch Dogs: Legion, an entry that is said to seal the series’ fate.

“Development on Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe continues with a seasoned team.”

Now, Jean Guesdon will be taking the helm for codenamed Hexe. Recently, the publisher also onboarded Batman: Arkham Origins’ director to lead the charge of Assassin’s Creed Hexe.

The Game Will Feature Supernatural Elements And A Much Linear Style of Gameplay

That said, it is a bit troublesome for the game to have its creative director depart so late in development. In any case, Assassin’s Creed Hexe is likely to be a success, given the hoard of talent working on it.

Initially announced in 2022 as a “different type of Assassin’s Creed game,” codename Hexe is currently eyeing a 2027 release.

Thanks to the excitement around Leon’s return in Resident Evil Requiem, the Resident Evil 4 remake has also made it into the top 10 of the global top sellers chart at no.7, beating out Helldivers 2 and Monster Hunters Wilds.

RE Requiem
Resident Evil Requiem has debuted to universal acclaim from critics.

Capcom did predict stronger sales for Resident Evil Requiem compared to its predecessor, and the game is certainly delivering. With a stunning Nintendo Switch 2 port also set to launch day-and-date with other editions, it won’t be surprising if the horror title breaks franchise sales records.

Microsoft Does Not Force Its Studios To Use AI, Says New Xbox Leadership

Story Highlight
  • The new Xbox CEO does not intend to push AI slop in games despite her artificial intelligence background.
  • Xbox’s new leadership notes that AI will be used as an additive tool by game developers for tasks like coding and bug testing.
  • They also say that Microsoft does not force any of its studios to use AI for game development.

Following the arrival of new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, the gaming brand is set to go through plenty of changes.

However, as the new leadership puts it, one thing that will seemingly remain unchanged is Microsoft’s commitment to producing games with human creativity at the forefront. In a new interview, the CEO once again clarified her stance on AI and its use for game development.

Why it matters: The new Xbox CEO comes from an AI background, which sparked concerns over Microsoft accelerating the push for artificial intelligence integration in games.

Asha Sharma New Xbox CEO
Matt Booty And Phil Spencer Took To The Stage To Welcome Asha Sharma As The New CEO

Discussing the subject with Windows Central, Sharma noted that she has no intentions of flooding Xbox with “AI slop.”

Reaffirming this stance, Xbox CCO Matt Booty used Photoshop as an example of a tool the games industry widely adopted soon after its release. He argued that AI would be similarly additive to game development at Microsoft moving forward.

Matt Booty also confirmed that Microsoft does not force its studios to use the technology. Ultimately, the choice of whether to use any new technology or not is up to the developers.

Booty noted that the developers are free to use AI to write code or check for bugs, but Microsoft prioritizes the creative process above everything else.

We’ve got no pressure from Microsoft, there are no directives on AI coming down.

-Matt Booty

What makes these statements so interesting is the fact that Microsoft appears to be taking the opposite approach with Windows, pushing AI elements like Copilot heavily for all users.

Asha Sharma
New Xbox head says they’ll stick with the current multiplatform strategy for now

Elsewhere, the new CEO has pointed to anything being possible for Xbox over the coming years. In particular, she has highlighted the need to focus on the hardware and players moving forward.

What do you think about Microsoft’s stance on AI for game development? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Ubisoft CEO Defends Against Nepotism Claims, Says It “Was Created As A Family Company”

Story Highlight
  • The Ubisoft CEO has defended himself against claims of nepotism over his son joining Vantage Studios as a co-CEO.
  • He argues that Ubisoft is a family business with a strong heritage, which helps its long-term goals.
  • The CEO believes his son deserves the role because of his appropriate skills and experience.

Ubisoft experienced a grim shakeup earlier this year, including the cancellation of many projects and the closure of several studios. Company CEO Yves Guillemot has also been criticized for leaving the reins of its new AC-focused Vantage Studios to his son, Charlie Guillemot.

The head honcho has defended against these nepotism claims, clarifying that Ubisoft was actually created as a family-focused company.

Why it matters: Yves Guillemot’s response not only fails to defend against the nepotism claims but also, ironically, seems to back them up. The CEO argues that Ubisoft’s strong heritage is helping its long-term goals.

Ubisoft
Ubisoft has been on a decline for a long time now.

Speaking to Variety, the Ubisoft CEO argues that its strong family heritage is helping with long-term goals. He expects this approach with Charlie Guillemot and Christophe Derennes to restore Ubisoft’s golden age by fostering sustainable growth.

Ubisoft was created as a family company, and our strong heritage helps us take a long-term view, prioritizing sustainable growth, creative ambition, and continuity over short-term cycles.

-Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot.

The irony in the CEO’s defense has brought even more criticism, rather than resolving the nepotism accusations. Regardless, Yves further defends his decision by citing Charlie’s ‘complementary strengths’ and ‘experience.’

Charlie Guillemot has been an internal member of the transformational committee tasked with reviving Ubisoft’s flagship IPs from the brink of collapse.

He also co-founded and led the AI-focused Web3 gaming venture Unagi, so this experience could further support the publisher’s increasing focus on Gen AI.

Ubisoft franchises
The studio is now only focusing on certain popular franchises moving forward.

On a similar grim note, Yves Guillemot has also promised more layoffs to resize the company and shed more weight in the near future. The executives hope to resolve post-COVID struggles with these measures.

Do you think the Ubisoft CEO’s current practices constitute nepotism, or are these accusations unfair and without merit? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Xbox Head Confirms No Immediate Changes to The Multiplatform Strategy But Doesn’t Rule Anything Out

Story Highlight
  • Xbox head has confirmed there won’t be immediate changes to the multiplatform strategy.
  • However, she hasn’t completely ruled out skipping exclusives in the future.
  • She says she currently wants to focus on hardware and return Xbox to its roots.

There have been tons of questions looming around ever since Asha Sharma took over as the head of Xbox. Fans are concerned about the future of the company, and Sharma has been actively addressing the concerns.

In a recent interview, she was asked about the situation of exclusives, considering she recently hinted that they could make a return. However, for now, Xbox won’t make any immediate changes to its multiplatform strategy.

Why it matters: Amid falling console sales, Xbox had to take deliberate measures like going all out with its multiplatform approach and putting some of its biggest exclusive franchises like Halo, Forza, and others on PlayStation.

Asha Sharma
New Xbox head says they’ll stick with the current multiplatform strategy for now

Talking to Windows Central, Asha Sharma discussed the future of exclusives. She said it is too early to change anything abruptly right now, but she hasn’t ruled anything out, suggesting they could look into it in the future.

We also know that there are a lot of players who aren’t on console or our hardware, and I want to deliver great games to them too.

She stated that the current plan is the plan, until it isn’t, dropping a very subtle hint that Xbox could reevaluate its multiplatform strategy. But for now, she wants to focus on other things, especially the hardware.

Asha Sharma
She said they’ll make decisions according to the situation

Right now, I need to learn, candidly. About the ‘why’ of these decisions, what we were optimizing for, and what the data says about the Xbox strategy today. The plan’s the plan until it’s not the plan

Sharma has shown a strong commitment to Xbox hardware and says she wants the company to return to its roots and cater to its audience. We could soon hear more about the next-gen hybrid console as well.
