CDPR Not Done With Cyberpunk 2077 Yet, Teases New Information Coming Later This Month

Story Highlight
  • CDPR isn’t done with Cyberpunk 2077.
  • The developer has just teased another update for the title.
  • Fans can expect to hear more information later this month.

Cyberpunk 2077 has seen one of the biggest comebacks in the gaming industry, from being one of the most trolled titles to hitting over 95% positive reviews on Steam.

Many considered the last update in the title, released in December 2024, to be the final update, as CDPR has been working on The Witcher 4 and the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.

However, the developers have just teased another update for the title, with more information to be shared later this month.

Why it matters: Even though CDPR has already made a fantastic comeback and thanked fans for the second chance, it appears that the developers aren’t entirely done yet and have more surprises in store for fans.

Video Game Spending Topped $59.3 Billion In US, Beating Movies & TV Shows

Story Highlight
  • Video Games spending in the US for 2024 was almost $60 billion, slightly beating the revenue generated from movies & TV shows.
  • 83% of US households use a gaming device.
  • The industry is only expected to grow from here with the release of Switch 2 this year and GTA 6 the following year.

Despite the negative news we have been learning about the video game industry in recent times, the industry is steadily growing and is now considered the largest entertainment medium.

As the most significant driver of revenue, video games generate more money than any other entertainment medium. In 2024, video game spending reached a whopping $59.3 billion within the US, underscoring the industry’s significant growth.

Why it matters: Video Games are the fastest-growing industry and globally, generating an estimated $455 billion worldwide in 2024. The US is potentially the biggest driver in this regard, accounting for slightly over 13% of that total revenue.

Industry Now Course-Correcting After Failed DEI Agendas

This information comes from a report by the Entertainment Software Association, revealing that $51.3 billion out of the total $59.3 billion spent was solely on game content, which includes full game purchases, DLC, and in-game transactions.

These figures are larger than those of movies and TV shows, which amounted to $57.17 billion in spending within the US for the same year.

Spending for hardware was $4.9 billion, and accessories came down to $3.2 billion. Hardware sales have stagnated, but expect growth next year now that the Switch 2 has been released.

Surprisingly, 83% of the households in the US used at least one gaming device. From a population of almost 340 million people in the country, 205.1 million Americans play video games regularly.

Video games are also being used to discover new movies & TV shows, given the recent rise of live-action adaptations of video games.

The numbers will only increase from here, and 2026 will potentially be the biggest year for gaming. With the massive release of GTA 6, everything from hardware to software sales will see a considerable spike.

The Witcher 4: CDPR Taking Inspiration From KCD2 And Baldur’s Gate 3 For Next Big RPG

Story Highlight
  • CDPR is looking at successful RPGs like Baldur’s Gate 3 and KCD2 while working on The Witcher 4.
  • The team intends to implement elements such as character building and world reactivity from these titles.
  • CDPR will also remain true to its own style of RPGs while drawing inspiration from these games.

The Witcher 4 has become the talk of the town once again following an impressive tech demo from CDPR. With the RPG looking better than ever, the studio has also expressed confidence in its work, promising to set a new bar for the genre.

Quite fittingly, then, the team is looking at RPG mammoths as it continues to develop The Witcher 4. As per CDPR, both Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 serve as major inspirations for its next big RPG.

Why it matters: Although much of CDPR’s next big RPG remains a mystery, this small detail should give fans a hint of what to expect in terms of the RPG systems featured in The Witcher 4.

Speaking to PCGamer, CDPR joint CEO Michal Nowakowski stated that everyone is looking back on successful titles like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

In the former’s case, he pointed to the character and world-building elements as a major source of inspiration for The Witcher 4. Previously, the studio described how every NPC would react differently to Ciri in The Witcher 4.

As part of the same focus, the team intends to present these elements with its own style layered on top. Similarly, co-CEO Adam Badowski praised Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 for its reactive open world and simulation.

He stated that CDPR hopes to present a similar experience in The Witcher 4, prioritizing freedom of choice throughout the experience.

I love Kingdom Come because of the realism.

-Adam Badowski

The Witcher 3
The Witcher 4 Will Differentiate Itself From The Third Mainline Entry

Although CDPR has plenty of material to look back upon within its own hits, the team is looking at the RPG genre as a whole for The Witcher 4.

The studio previously clarified that it won’t be treading familiar ground with this entry, so fans should expect more than a few differences between the series’ last and upcoming entry.

On that note, Baldur’s Gate 3 and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 are perhaps the best games to look at. Both titles have received excellent critical and commercial reception, making them the two most popular Western RPGs of the last few years.

What do you think about CDPR’s praise for the games? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Silent Hill F Is More Action Focused Than SH2 Remake

Story Highlight
  • A new trailer for Silent Hill f, a standalone title in the series, was released during the recent State of Play.
  • The gameplay trailer was straight up impressive, featuring stunning graphics, atmosphere, and enemies.
  • Also, this game will be more melee and action-oriented than the Silent Hill 2 Remake.

A new trailer for Silent Hill f was just released at the recent State of Play. While the fandom has claimed the event to be underwhelming, there were some reveals, and the upcoming Silent Hill is one of them.

The gameplay trailer reveals multiple new things, making the fans excited. However, the fandom has been wondering about how much action-focused this title would be. Thankfully, Konami has given us an answer. As per the publisher, the upcoming title will be more focused on melee and action than the Silent Hill 2 Remake

Why it matters: More action in horror games makes the experience fun for many. While the combat was never the main focus in Silent Hill games, having an option to shoot enemies with different guns in the SH2 remake was fun.

Silent-Hill-f-2025
Silent Hill f New Trailer Reveals Terrifying Setting, Enemies, And Atmosphere

The encounters are as challenging as the obstacles that Hinako must overcome in life. The combat will have a heavier focus on melee and be more action-oriented compared to last year’s Silent Hill 2.

-Konami

As the game has a heavy focus on Melee and is more action-oriented, it is likely that there will be many options to choose from. We have also seen Hinako using a Naginata, so traditional Japanese weapons are also expected.

The developers are not including the firearms in the game, so they have upped the melee combat, which was the right choice to make. That said, fans are hoping it won’t be too action-oriented, as that may ruin the fun for them.

Ehhhhh… I really hope it’s not TOO action oriented. Even if it’s fun action, I wanna get immersed and scared. I want combat to be a last resort.

The blog also reveals that the “puzzles are grounded in psychological anguish and suffering”. They are deeply connected to the story as well as elements of Japanese culture, such as scarecrows.

What do you think about the upcoming Silent Hill f being more action-oriented than the last game in the series? Do you think it will ruin the fun or enhance the experience? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion

Resident Evil 9 Said To Have Longest Development Cycle of Any Capcom Game Ever

Story Highlight
  • An insider states that Resident Evil 9 will have been in development for nearly a decade by the time it releases.
  • This will make it Capcom’s most time-consuming project to date.
  • The game is said to be incredibly ambitious, and an official first look is expected later this week.

With the gaming showcase season in full swing, expectations are high for Capcom’s Resident Evil 9 debut. Yesterday’s State of Play saw the gaming giant highlighting Pragmata for the first time in many years, and insiders believe Resident Evil 9 is next at Summer Game Fest.

Ahead of this event, new details regarding the title continue to show up through rumors and insider reports. As per a popular leaker, Resident Evil 9’s development cycle is so extensive that it is now Capcom’s most time-consuming project ever.

Why it matters: Capcom has a solid track record of releasing games at an acceptable pace, making it one of the most efficient teams in the industry.

As per Dusk Golem, the insider behind much of the latest Resident Evil 9 information, Capcom has spent nearly a full decade working on the project.

He states that the latest iteration of the IP has already been through its main delay phase. The insider believes that by the time Resident Evil 9 arrives in the hands of players, it will have become the Capcom project with the longest development cycle.

For context, the game is expected to launch sometime next year, resulting in around 9 full years of development, a fitting timeline for what is described as the most ambitious entry in the iconic franchise to date.

Moreover, Resident Evil 9 could end up as Capcom’s most expensive production to date due to this timeline.

The game is said to be merging open-world elements into the series’ signature horror formula. This new approach, along with Capcom’s focus on optimization, has led to a project that has perhaps taken longer than fans would have liked.

Majority Of Fans Were Disappointed With The Recent PlayStation State Of Play

Story Highlight
  • A new State of Play took place recently.
  • Fans expressed their disappointment over the event due to a lack of first-party reveals.
  • They wanted a full-scale Showcase instead, considering it had been two years since the last one.

PlayStation’s State of Play last night kicked off the summer season of video game reveals.

However, the start of the video game reveal season wasn’t exactly what fans had expected. The majority of fans claim that they wanted a showcase instead, and the smaller-scaled State of Play disappointed them.

Why it matters: PlayStation is lagging behind in terms of first-party AAA releases, and its upcoming slate is relatively dry. As such, fans expected something big from PlayStation, but their recent event spiralled down their hopes.

Fans’ Rating The Recent State Of Play On X

Most of the trailers at the recent State of Play were only for games that have already been revealed, such as Ghost of Yotei, Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake, and Silent Hill f. Others included indie first-party titles and third-party reveals, most notably Nioh 3 and 007 First Light.

PlayStation’s release slate for new first-party AAA games in 2025 only includes Ghost of Yotei and Marvel’s Wolverine, with the latter one probably being pushed to 2026 or later.

Recent reports have suggested several new titles from the gaming giant, starting with a new God of War spin-off title, another new IP from Santa Monica studios, and more news from the rest of the studios under PlayStation.

However, none of these titles or studios made an appearance at the State of Play, with the emphasis being heavy on indie titles.

It’s been 2 years since the last PlayStation Showcase took place, and fans had their hopes high for a new one, but the gaming giant had other plans. Recent reports have suggested that a PlayStation Showcase might take place sometime later this year, possibly in September.

It would be the perfect opportunity for PlayStation to redeem itself, especially after the summer season, when it knows everything that will be revealed during the summer season.

007 First Light Gets Cinematic Reveal, Launches in 2026

Story Highlight
  • 007 First Light gets its first trailer unveiled at the PlayStation State of Play.
  • Developer IO Interactive went for a cinematic approach for the game, as per the trailer.
  • The title is scheduled to be released sometime in 2026.

PlayStation’s State of Play has officially kicked off the summer season of video game showcases. This time around, the State of Play lasted longer than its predecessor, filled with first and third-party reveals.

One of the biggest reveals from this time around was the first look at 007 First Light. Covering the origin story of James Bond, IO’s interactive new project is much faster-paced and action-oriented.

Why it matters: The James Bond franchise is one of the biggest ever and has found tremendous success in the gaming world even before. Judging by the first look at this new title, IO Interactive will set a new benchmark for third-person narrative games.

The trailer starts off with Bond being introduced as a reckless young teenager, finding his place in the MI6 program as a Spy. The younger Bond appears to be much adventurous and charming early in his career as a secret agent.

From what appears to be his first mission, Bond can be seen using several state-of-the-art gadgets in a typical 007 fashion. Whether it’s shooting lasers through the watch, using hand-to-hand combat to take enemies down, or guns blazing, the short glimpse of third-person gameplay is filled with action.

The trailer also features driving sequences, implying that it may be a part of the game, perhaps just for once in a mission. The overall theme of the game appears to be cinematic, with IO Interactive seemingly recreating the feel of a movie with the upcoming game.

Overall, the game looks incredible, thanks to its realistic facial models and stunning graphics. Making spy games is IO Interactive’s forte, so trust them to nail the new 007 game.

Currently, 007 First Light is targeting a 2026 release date. More details on the game are expected at the developers’ own showcase scheduled for 6 June.

Nioh 3 Stuns In New Reveal By Team Ninja; Launches In 2026

Story Highlight
  • Nioh 3 has been officially revealed at State of Play 2025.
  • Team Ninja promises more open level design for the title and the choice between samurai and ninja-style combat.
  • The game releases next year, and a demo is now available to play on the PS5.

Team Ninja has become one of the most experienced developers when it comes to the Souls-like genre today. The studio’s original venture into the genre with Nioh has led to various titles with similar gameplay, including last year’s Rise of the Ronin.

Team Ninja last revisited Nioh with a second game in 2020, and following last year’s teaser, the team has suddenly returned with a major announcement related to the IP.

Why it matters: Successful Team Ninja titles like Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Rise of the Ronin offered a similar experience to Nioh, but neither game could capture the charm of this franchise.

Team Ninja has officially confirmed Nioh 3, promising more open level design for the third entry in the franchise.

Like the past two titles, Nioh 3 offers fast-paced combat and thrilling battles for fans of high-octane action games. This entry also offers players the choice between samurai and ninja-style combat.

Looking at the trailer, Nioh 3 seems to be taking a few notes from the new entry of Team Ninja’s other returning franchise, Ninja Gaiden. For those who enjoy both IPs, Ninja Gaiden 4 is set to launch later this year, and Nioh 3 will follow shortly in 2026.

Team Ninja has also announced a demo for the title. This demo is immediately available to play on the PS5, giving players a small taste of what to expect from Nioh 3.

Silent Hill F Gets A New Horrifying Trailer; Releases September 25

Story Highlight
  • After witnessing the goodness of Silent Hill 2 Remake, fans have very high expectations for the next game in the franchise.
  • The new trailer for Silent Hill: F was just released, showcasing true horrors.
  • The gameplay seems to be pretty similar to the latest remake, but the environment may be a little scarier.

The Silent Hill series is known to have an immensely horrifying plot and setting. Fans would be delighted to know that at least the setting won’t be changed in the upcoming Silent Hill F

Fans absolutely enjoyed the Silent Hill 2 remake as it was genuinely terrifying. Due to that, they have been patiently waiting for the next game in the franchise, and due to how much fun they had with the SH2 remake, their expectations subconsciously skyrocketed. The fandom was right to expect more as the new trailer of Silent Hill F is fire

Why it matters: Horror games are always welcomed in the gaming industry, as there is always a shortage of them. With the release of Alan Wake 2 and the Silent Hill 2 remake, the genre has been revived.

During the PlayStation State of Play, a new look at the upcoming Silent Hill has been revealed. The game looks terrifying, and it completely captures the essence of a Silent Hill title. The atmosphere and locations are as scary as we have already seen in the latest remake, if not more.

Some of the instances in the trailer may look more terrifying to you as the whole setting looks bizarre, exactly what you would expect from a Silent Hill title.

The Upcoming Silent Hill Game Looks As Scary As A Game Can Be

The gameplay and camera angle of the character seem to be the same as those of the Silent Hill 2 remake. You may think the attack animation is a bit clunky, but that is just how it is. This was also the case with the latest title, so it is a special type of animation.

Only having a terrifying atmosphere and setting won’t be enough, right? There are monsters that are weird but scary enough to make you run for your life. Additionally, the game is set to release on PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PS5 on September 25.

The Witcher 4 Fans Are Upset With New Gameplay Just Being A Tech Showcase

Story Highlight
  • The Witcher 4 fans have taken to videos and social media to discuss the new gameplay tech showcase.
  • Many fans are disappointed with just getting a vertical slice and are hesitant to trust in CD Projekt Red given its past track record.
  • Users believe it’s best to keep expectations in check, as the actual gameplay may differ in terms of visuals and optimization.

We finally got an official look at The Witcher 4 after months of waiting, which gave us over 10 minutes of footage. However, CDPR recently confirmed that the new content was nothing more than just a tech demo built specifically to show the prowess of Unreal Engine 5.

This tidbit has upset many Witcher 4 fans because they wanted to see an actual look into The Witcher 4 instead of only a vertical slice. As a result, they have taken to videos and social media posts to express disappointment and reluctance in trusting the developers.

Why it matters: The Witcher 4 fans were disappointed to learn that no actual gameplay was shown, as CDPR only revealed a tech demo to show Unreal Engine 5 features. The final game could end up much different.

Despite CD Projekt Red confirming that some of the best talents in the industry are working on The Witcher 4, many fans have refused to trust the team due to negative experiences with The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.

For those not in the know, the initial E3 2014 demo of The Witcher 3 looked much better than the final launch. All the post-launch drama with Cyberpunk 2077 has also made it tough for fans to accept that The Witcher 4 will look as well as the tech demo.

Additionally, The Witcher 4 tech demo ran at 60 FPS on the base PS5 with ray tracing, but fans find it difficult to believe that the final gameplay will run just as well without suffering downgrades.

Regardless, Ciri looks much closer to her Witcher 3 counterpart in the new footage compared to the reveal trailer. It is something that many fans have appreciated.

Do you think The Witcher 4 will look like the vertical slice footage that we were shown? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

RX 9060 XT Offers Better Performance Than PS5 Pro For Just $350

Story Highlight
  • Testing reveals that the RX 9060 XT can offer slightly better performance than the PS5 Pro.
  • The $350 GPU should make it possible to build PCs similar to the PS5 Pro for around $1000 or less.
  • AMD officially launches the graphics card tomorrow, promising affordable GPUs worldwide.

The AMD RX 9060 XT officially hits the market tomorrow, launching with 16GB of VRAM at a modest price of $350. According to recently released reviews, the GPU offers plenty of value at this MSRP, making it the obvious choice for budget-conscious PC gamers.

In fact, the RX 9060 XT appears to be outdoing capable consoles like the PS5 Pro. Testing reveals that in like-for-like scenarios, it performs slightly better than the $700 PS5 Pro.

Why it matters: The RX 9060 XT’s MSRP could lead to mid-range PCs capable of beating the PS5 Pro around the $1000 price point, returning this market to a more value-focused approach.

As per Digital Foundry’s testing, the RX 9060 XT outperforms the PS5 Pro in both Black Myth: Wukong and Alan Wake 2. This is impressive considering the previous reference point for a PC capable of matching the PS5 Pro was the RTX 4070, a $500 GPU.

Using nearly identical graphical settings in Black Myth: Wukong, the RX 9060 XT offers about 5% higher frame rates than the PS5 Pro. On the other hand, Alan Wake 2 sees the latest AMD card pulling ahead with a 13% lead over the PS5 Pro at equivalent settings.

Both examples demonstrate how the RX 9060 XT compares to the PS5 Pro in GPU-bound scenarios. According to the analysts, both the RX 9060 XT and RTX 5060 Ti 16GB variants offer ballpark PS5 Pro performance, adding more value to the currently unstable PC gaming market.

The PS5 Pro Uses Similar RDNA 4 Features For Its Custom Architecture

In the past, developers have claimed that Sony’s $700 PS5 Pro is priced appropriately for the hardware it offers. However, with PC gaming having caught up, this price may not seem nearly as enticing moving forward.

As AMD prepares for the release of the RX 9060 XT tomorrow, the MSRP will determine the GPU’s success. If the $350 MSRP is indeed the actual price of this graphics card, AMD should see PC gamers flocking to this option in the coming months.

RX 9060 XT 16GB Dubbed Ultimate Budget GPU; Matches RTX 5060 Ti For Lower MSRP

Story Highlight
  • The RX 9060 XT 16GB review embargo has officially been lifted.
  • Benchmarks indicate that the GPU outperforms the RX 7700 XT by a small margin and matches the RTX 5060 Ti.
  • These results make the graphics card a solid option for budget and mid-range PC gamers.

AMD’s RX 9060 XT immediately became an interesting GPU for the masses following its announcement. With performance expected to rival Nvidia’s more expensive GPUs along with 16GB of VRAM, this $350 graphics card attracted plenty of eyes over the last few days.

AMD previously confirmed a June 5 release date for the RX 9060 XT, and reviews for the GPU have now been released. For those interested in how AMD’s latest mid-range offering stacks up against the competition, reviews reveal that it goes toe to toe with the RTX 5060 Ti.

Why it matters: AMD’s MSRP has been set lower than that of the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, so this performance adds plenty of value to the mid-range offering.

As per Hardware Unboxed’s review, the RX 9060 XT 16GB achieves an average of 98FPS at 1080p. The graphics card has plenty of VRAM to spare at this resolution, making it a good option for those who can find it at the advertised price of $350.

At this resolution, the GPU is about 4% faster than the RX 7700 XT and just 6% slower than the RTX 5060 Ti. However, both the RX 9060 XT and RTX 5060 Ti offer basically the same performance at 1440p.

These results are certainly better than expected after recent leaks. Ray-tracing performance is not as great as the Nvidia counterparts, but AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture typically holds its own in such workloads.

The RX 9060 XT is no different and offers suitable ray-tracing performance for the price, making it a decent choice for titles like Doom: The Dark Ages.

RX 9060 XT 1440p Benchmarks

Ultimately, this performance indicates that the RX 9060 XT is a solid option for those seeking a new 1080p or 1440p gaming graphics card. As per reviewer Hardware Unboxed, it serves as the ultimate budget GPU in the current market as long as the $350 MSRP holds true.

It should be noted that the RX 9060 XT may not necessarily be available at the MSRP during the initial stage of its lifespan. However, once the prices stabilize, AMD’s latest mid-range offering should prove unbeatable in the $300-400 price range.
