Bringing PS5 Pro Performance To Mid-Range PCs!

Story Highlight
  • Testing reveals that the RX 9060 XT can offer slightly better performance than the PS5 Pro.
  • The $350 GPU should make it possible to build PCs similar to the PS5 Pro for around $1000 or less.
  • AMD officially launches the graphics card tomorrow, promising affordable GPUs worldwide.

The AMD RX 9060 XT officially hits the market tomorrow, launching with 16GB of VRAM at a modest price of $350. According to recently released reviews, the GPU offers plenty of value at this MSRP, making it the obvious choice for budget-conscious PC gamers.

In fact, the RX 9060 XT appears to be outdoing capable consoles like the PS5 Pro. Testing reveals that in like-for-like scenarios, it performs slightly better than the $700 PS5 Pro.

Why it matters: The RX 9060 XT’s MSRP could lead to mid-range PCs capable of beating the PS5 Pro around the $1000 price point, returning this market to a more value-focused approach.

As per Digital Foundry’s testing, the RX 9060 XT outperforms the PS5 Pro in both Black Myth: Wukong and Alan Wake 2. This is impressive considering the previous reference point for a PC capable of matching the PS5 Pro was the RTX 4070, a $500 GPU.

Using nearly identical graphical settings in Black Myth: Wukong, the RX 9060 XT offers about 5% higher frame rates than the PS5 Pro. On the other hand, Alan Wake 2 sees the latest AMD card pulling ahead with a 13% lead over the PS5 Pro at equivalent settings.

Both examples demonstrate how the RX 9060 XT compares to the PS5 Pro in GPU-bound scenarios. According to the analysts, both the RX 9060 XT and RTX 5060 Ti 16GB variants offer ballpark PS5 Pro performance, adding more value to the currently unstable PC gaming market.

In the past, developers have claimed that Sony’s $700 PS5 Pro is priced appropriately for the hardware it offers. However, with PC gaming having caught up, this price may not seem nearly as enticing moving forward.

As AMD prepares for the release of the RX 9060 XT tomorrow, the MSRP will determine the GPU’s success. If the $350 MSRP is indeed the actual price of this graphics card, AMD should see PC gamers flocking to this option in the coming months.
