Crimson Desert PC VS PS5 Comparison Shows PC Looks Like A Remake Due To Ray Reconstruction

Story Highlight
  • Crimson Desert’s performance is on a higher level on PC compared to PS5 Pro, thanks to Nvidia’s Ray Reconstruction.
  • The difference between the two ports is so night and day that some fans think the PC version looks like a remake.
  • The DLSS in Crimson Desert leads to better lighting, particle effects, and a higher level of detail, but the PS5 Pro does hold its own with PSSR upscaling.

Calling Crimson Desert’s launch a rollercoaster would be an understatement. The anticipated open-world title sold 2 million copies in just 24 hours and debuted with an excellent 240k concurrent users on Steam. However, the game has been embroiled in controversy due to janky controls, AI-generated art, and performance issues.

The Pearl Abyss title opened with mixed reviews on Steam but has since risen to a positive rating, thanks to the developer’s immediate response patches. As it turns out, despite some bugs, Crimson Desert is on an entirely different graphical level on PC, standing out compared to the PS5 Pro.

Why it matters: The PC edition of Crimson Desert overpowering the PSSR is a showcase for the technical prowess of Nvidia’s DLSS.

As showcased by YouTuber ElAnalistaDeBits, Crimson Desert on PC easily outperforms the PS5 Pro version of the game thanks to Nvidia’s Ray Reconstruction technology. The difference between the two ports is so stark that some fans think the title feels like a remake on PC.

According to the YouTuber, the interiors and shadows in Crimson Desert look far superior thanks to Nvidia’s tech, which offers a substantial improvement over the PS5 Pro. The open-world title has a higher level of detail, more particles, and better reflections on PC, standing out with its lighting.

Of course, the Ray Reconstruction isn’t without its flaws and does create issues with water in Crimson Desert, freezing the animation when the player stops. On the other hand, the PS5 Pro version is also not too bad, as the PSSR upscaling does a magnificent job at presentation and holds its own against Nvidia’s tech.

Crimson Desert PS5 vs PC
The open-world game has a sharp increase in lighting quality on PC because of DLSS.

However, overall, Crimson Desert is a much better-looking game on PC as Nvidia’s DLSS blows PSSR out of the water, despite the latter substantially improving the PS5 Pro edition.

Crimson Desert Patch Nerfs Boss Health and Damage After Difficulty Complaints

Story Highlight
  • Pearl Abyss has released a new 1.00.03 patch for Crimson Desert with many fixes.
  • It caters to the difficulty complaints and nerfs boss health and damage.
  • The new patch has brought in a massive number of around 100 fixes to the game.

Crimson Desert is finally starting to get some love as the Steam reviews have now turned mostly positive from mixed. However, fans have complained that the difficulty with certain boss fights can be a bit too overwhelming.

Souls players will feel right at home, but casual players do find the difficulty hard to tackle. However, Pearl Abyss has released a new patch for Crimson Desert, and it fixes multiple things, including nerfing boss health and damage.

Why it matters: This will make the game more accessible to players who want to experience but don’t want to have a tough time tackling some of the brutal boss fights.

Crimson Desert Patch Notes
New Crimson Desert patch nerfs boss health and damage amid complaints

Patch notes reveal tons of content, quality of life, and other changes. Health and damage of certain bosses have now been reduced. Moreover, the difficulty of the ambush encounters has also been decreased after complaints.

This is great to see that the studio is indeed listening to the fans and making the game better as we go. The base is solid and just needs a bit more tweaking to make it shine, and maybe even reach its max potential.

Crimson Desert
The game’s reviews recently went from mixed to mostly positive

However, we can’t really ignore its bigger shortcomings, like a weak story and an uninteresting protagonist. But the studio was going for heavy exploration, and the game absolutely nails that part.

Additionally, the new Patch 1.00.03 introduces nearly 100 fixes, so most of the minor and some of the major complaints have now been tended to. Pearl Abyss is adamant on improving the title as much as they can.

Microsoft Targets Xbox One Users With Up To 50% Off On Xbox Series X|S In Store Promotion

Story Highlight
  • Microsoft is trying to offload Xbox Series X|S consoles by offering exclusive discounts to Xbox One players.
  • The users on the last-gen console are being offered a whopping 50% price cut to purchase the 1 TB digital edition of Series X.
  • This offer isn’t showing for all players, however, and only a select few can avail this discount.

This generation, Xbox hardware has been nowhere near its historic competitor, PlayStation. The Xbox Series X|S has been declining in revenue for four consecutive years now, with a 32% reduction in sales this last quarter alone.

In 2025, the current-gen Microsoft console couldn’t even reach 2 million unit sales globally, falling to fourth in the console pecking order at one point. Many consider the Xbox Series generation to be a lost cause, but from the looks of it, the gaming giant is still trying its hardest to market the hardware to last-gen players.

Why it matters: Before Microsoft tries to reset once again with Xbox Project Helix, offloading all the Series X|S consoles it can isn’t a bad idea.

Xbox Series console exclusive discount
Source: X

As spotted on X, Microsoft is targeting Xbox One users with exclusive discounts for the Xbox Series X|S. This deal, marketed as a “Just For You” speciality on the Microsoft Store, is reducing the price of the hardware by a whopping 50%.

The 1TB digital edition of Xbox Series X is up to 42% off, selling for just $350 on the website instead of its $600 retail price. On the other hand, a refurbished version of the console is available for half its cost, purchasable for just $300 on the Microsoft Store. However, this offer isn’t showing up for all users and is only available for a select few.

With sales of the console collapsing massively in 2025 after multiple price hikes, this could be an effort from Microsoft to sell as many Xbox Series consoles as they can before it becomes obsolete.

Xbox Series X
Xbox Series X|S sales declined by 32% last quarter.

The company has already announced its next-gen hardware in the form of the Xbox Project Helix, which is rumored to launch in the holiday season of 2027 and cost twice as much as the Series X

Do you think Microsoft could have done something different to make the current-gen hardware successful? Will Xbox Project Helix meet the same fate? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

Crimson Desert Dev Addresses AI Concerns; Says Early Assets Mistakenly Left In Final Build

Story Highlight
  • The Crimson Desert developer has come forward with a statement addressing the AI-generated art found in the game.
  • Pearl Abyss says that generative AI was used early in development to test the tone and atmosphere.
  • The team intended to ship the game without any AI assets and is now promising to replace these instances in the future.

Crimson Desert has faced multiple controversies so far. Before launch, many criticized the game for the addition of Denuvo, and very recently, fans have spotted AI-generated assets in the title.

The inclusion of generative AI assets led to mass outrage, and in the wake of audience reactions, Pearl Abyss has come forward with an explanation. According to the team, Crimson Desert’s AI-generated assets were not supposed to make it into the final build.

Why it matters: Not too long, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 faced a similar controversy. Interestingly, the team also offered a similar justification for why AI-generated art was left in the game.

According to the team, generative AI was used early in development to test the tone and atmosphere of the game.

Pearl Abyss says that the intention was to always replace these assets before launch. The team says that it takes full responsibility for this oversight and apologizes for the lack of transparency with players.

Crimson Desert’s developer also says that it will thoroughly review all in-game assets to remove any AI-generated content and replace it with new assets.

We have identified that some of these assets were unintentionally included in the final release.

The Crimson Desert Experience Is Growing On Players

As mentioned earlier, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 found itself at the center of a similar controversy earlier this year. However, the distinction here is that Crimson Desert features several more instances of generative AI use.

Many players say this oversight came about as a result of Pearl Abyss rushing the game for release. Still, players will be glad to know that the team is at least looking to address these concerns.

Why Pragmata Is One of Capcom’s Most Mysterious Games

Story Highlights
  • The minimal marketing and long silence from the developers have piqued curiosity instead of diminishing player interest.
  • The game boasts cryptic messages and unexplained characters that drive fan speculations.
  • A futuristic, possibly lunar setting suggests an isolated and lonely theme.
  • Gameplay is also largely unclear and possibly a mix of puzzles, exploration, and storytelling.

Few modern games are as mysterious as Capcom’s latest project, Pragmata. The game was first revealed in the PlayStation 5 reveal event and instantly stood out, not because of its sci-fi aesthetic but due to how little it was explained. Even after years passing by the ambiguity surrounding the mystery hasn’t faded away. The game has made the mysterious aura surrounding it its identity.

In an era where games are usually discussed before their release, this title relayed minimal information to fans. It’s a game that drives curiosity rather than answering it and forces players to piece together its identity from trailers or rare updates. This alone is enough to make Pragmata one of Capcom’s most interesting releases.

An Unclear Narrative and Setting

At its core, Pragmata seems to be a narrative-driven game set in a futuristic, possibly off-world experience. The reveal trailer shows a lone astronaut exploring what seems to be a lunar research facility, accompanied by a little mysterious girl that he himself names Diana. The connection between the two is unclear, but it seems to be central to the story that Capcom is trying to tell.

The world setting itself suggests a deeper backstory. In the trailer, we see abandoned structures, advanced technology, and subtle environmental cues all pointing to the fact that something may have gone wrong, possibly on a large scale. The presence of a child raises even more questions. Like, is she human, an AI construct, or something else entirely? Capcom is deliberately avoiding any explanations to let people’s imaginations run wild regarding the plot.

The Silence is Building Hype

Capcom’s marketing strategy for Pragmata is strange and unusual, especially by modern standards. After the game’s initial reveal, the company largely went silent aside from rare updates. We also saw that the developers delayed the game a couple of times without offering any explanation. This indeed led to some fans being annoyed and frustrated, but also helped create a unique kind of anticipation surrounding the game’s release.

In a market where new games are often talked about extensively and developers keep the audience updated, Pragmata stands out by doing the exact opposite. Due to this lack of information from the developers, every minor update becomes a major talking point. Fans are going so far as to break down trailers frame by frame just to pick up subtle clues about the gameplay mechanics and story.

The lack of information has also helped deal with the problem of creating hype. By revealing so little about the game, Capcom has allowed player expectations to be flexible. Players are not fixated on an image of what the game should be like, and this allows Pragmata to deliver an element of surprise when it finally releases.

A Different Kind of Gameplay

One of the biggest questions that surrounds the game is its gameplay. Unlike many modern AAA games that define their genre early on, this game remains hard to categorize. Early game previews suggest gameplay elements of exploration, puzzles, and combat. However, nothing about the gameplay has yet been confirmed.

This helps open the doors to something unique. Instead of tying itself down to a single genre, Pragmata could blend multiple gameplay styles into a single cohesive experience. The interaction between the astronaut and the young girl could play a key role in the game. The game may potentially introduce cooperative mechanics or abilities that may affect the way players interact with the world.

There may also be the possibility that the game may lean more heavily towards a narrative experience rather than a combat-centric one. If that is the case, then the game could appeal more to players who may be seeking a slower and more immersive story-driven experience, one that prioritizes the plot rather than just combat.

Power In the Unknown

What truly sets Pragmata apart is its willingness to embrace the unknown. The decision of Capcom to keep the game largely under wraps transformed the game into a kind of mystery box, one that players are eager to open. This approach also carries risks. There is always a chance that, due to minimal updates, the hype could die out or expectations could become unrealistic.

However, on the plus end Capcom has the freedom to refine the game without facing any external pressure. The final product has the potential to feel fresh, unexpected, primarily because it hasn’t been overexposed. The mystery encourages speculations, discussions, and theories that keep the game relevant even in the absence of information. In the end, we as players can only sit back and piece together the game from what we have as we wait for its release.

The Console-Like PC Problem Valve Finally Solved

Story Highlights
  • Console-like PCs failed by trying to restrict what makes PCs powerful
  • Steam Machines struggled due to fragmentation and weak software support.
  • Steam Deck succeeds by embracing PC flexibility, not removing it.
  • The future of PC-console hybrids is shifting toward handhelds, not TVs.

For as long as PC gaming has existed, there has been this persistent idea that it could be simplified into something closer to a console. A machine you plug into your TV, pick up a controller, and play without worrying about drivers, settings, or updates. It sounds like the best of both worlds.

Yet for nearly two decades, that vision has struggled to take hold. Not because the hardware wasn’t capable, and not because gamers didn’t want simplicity, but because the industry kept trying to solve the problem the wrong way.

Where It Went Wrong

All New Hardware From Valve – Image Credits (Steam)

The idea of a console-like PC isn’t new, but its failures follow a clear pattern. Over the years, companies kept trying to package PC hardware into living room boxes, layering simplified interfaces on top of Windows or Linux and hoping that would be enough. Even in recent years, companies have revisited the idea; a few new attempts surfaced, but none gained real traction.

The most notable early push came from Valve with Steam Machines in 2015. On paper, it looked like the breakthrough moment. A unified ecosystem, a dedicated OS, and multiple hardware partners. In practice, it collapsed under its own lack of clarity.

The biggest issue wasn’t just fragmentation; it was confusion. Different manufacturers produced wildly different systems, performance varied from one machine to another, and no one really knew what a Steam Machine was supposed to be. SteamOS didn’t help either. Limited compatibility made the experience feel incomplete.

These systems never committed to being a console, and they never embraced being a PC. That identity crisis is what ultimately killed them.

Why It Kept Failing

The repeated failure of console-like PCs comes down to a misunderstanding of what players actually want. There has always been demand for a simpler way to access PC gaming, but not if that simplicity comes at the cost of control.

PC gaming works because of its flexibility. Players expect to tweak settings, install mods, switch storefronts, and shape their experience however they want. Earlier attempts tried to simplify that by cutting those options away, and in doing so, they stripped out what made the platform appealing in the first place.

The industry treated PC gaming like a problem that needed fixing. That was the mistake. The real challenge was never about removing complexity; it was about hiding it until it was needed. Most companies got that backwards.

What Valve Did Differently

Valves Steam Deck
Valve’s Steam Deck – Image Credits (Laptop Mag)

Valve didn’t try to fix PC gaming. It accepted it. Instead of locking the experience down, it reorganized it. SteamOS presents a clean, console-like interface on the surface, but underneath, it is still a full PC. You can ignore the complexity entirely or dive into it whenever you want.

That distinction is everything. Earlier systems removed options to make things simpler. Valve kept those options and simply moved them out of the way. It sounds like a small change, but it completely changes how the system feels to use.

This is the difference between a device that feels limiting and one that feels flexible. It’s also the reason one approach failed while the other actually stuck.

Why Handheld PCs Succeeded

Living room PCs were always fighting a losing battle. They tried to compete directly with consoles that were already optimized for that space, already simpler, and already established.

Handheld PCs changed the equation entirely. Instead of replacing consoles, they extend PC gaming into places it couldn’t go before. Your library is no longer tied to a desk or a TV. That alone makes the trade-offs easier to accept.

More importantly, handhelds don’t feel like compromised consoles. They feel like expanded PCs. That shift in perception is why this category has gained momentum while traditional console-like PCs continue to stall.

The Role of SteamOS

SteamOS
SteamOS – Image Credits (Steam)

A big part of this shift comes down to software. SteamOS has evolved into something far more cohesive than its early versions, and more importantly, it knows exactly what it wants to be.

Because Valve controls the full stack, hardware, OS, and storefront, all work toward the same goal. That removes friction without introducing restrictions. And that’s the key difference.

SteamOS doesn’t try to lock users in. It gives them a default experience that works out of the box, but it never takes control away. You can step outside it at any time, and that freedom reinforces the entire system rather than breaking it.

The Remaining Challenges

Despite the progress, there are still limitations. Consoles continue to dominate the living room, offering simplicity and optimization that are hard to match, especially when combined with exclusive titles.

SteamOS also hasn’t seen widespread adoption beyond Valve’s own hardware. Expanding its reach remains a challenge, and handheld devices must keep up with increasingly demanding games. These are real concerns, but they do not change the broader direction.

What Comes Next

Legion Go S SteamOS
Legion Go S Using SteamOS (Image Credits – NotebookCheck)

The future of PC-console hybrids is becoming clearer. It is not about turning PCs into consoles, and it is not about replacing consoles entirely. It is about making PC gaming easier to access without stripping away what makes it valuable.

For years, the industry treated PC gaming like something that needed to be simplified by force. Valve proved that it only needed to be organized.

That’s why the Steam Deck works where everything else didn’t. For the first time in years, the idea of a console-like PC doesn’t feel misunderstood. It feels like something the industry is finally starting to get right.

Modern Warfare (2019) Is Outperforming Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6 in Player Count Right Now

Story Highlight
  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare is outperforming Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6 right now.
  • The game is 90% off on Steam and has climbed to become the 2nd-best-selling game on the platform.
  • Modern Warfare reinvented the series when it came out, but unfortunately, Call of Duty has lost its momentum now.

Both Call of Duty and Battlefield, regarded as the front-runners in the FPS genre, failed to take off last year, with most of the attention being diverted to other titles like Arc Raiders. Battlefield 6 was supposed to be the return to form for the series, but EA failed to capitalize on the hype. For Call of Duty, Black Ops 7 was the breaking point for fans who had given up on the series for becoming too ‘goofy’ and repetitive.

Just to get a sense of the performance of both these FPS titles, the now 7-year-old Call of Duty Modern Warfare (2019) is outperforming Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6 in terms of player count.

Why it matters: Hopefully, the failure of both these titles would be a wake-up call for EA and Activision, who have been lagging behind in offering what the players really want.

modern warfare steam charts
Call Of Duty Modern Warfare (2019) Is Seeing A Massive Resurgence || Steam Charts

Modern Warfare (2019) has a little over 50k players right now, more than Battlefield 6’s 37k and Black Ops 7’s 24k players.

Modern Warfare (2019) also hit its first-ever player peak of 52,070 in the last 24 hours, after being 90% off. Previously, the player count was tied to Warzone, which is why it’s the peak is appearing so low now.

Anyhow, this sale has made the game the 2nd-best-selling game on Steam, trailing only Crimson Desert.

Modern Warfare (2019) is widely regarded for reinventing the series into a more authentic military experience, aligning closely with what the Call of Duty series is branded as. In fact, it’s the only memorable entry in the series in quite a long time.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
Modern Warfare 2019 Might Be The Most Immersive Call Of Duty Game To Date

Unfortunately, the series lost its momentum after that entry. Now, Activision is looking to start anew with a new subfranchise that will reportedly be introduced in 2027. As for Battlefield 6, the game failed to take off even with the new season; RedSec didn’t make much of a difference either.

Sony Cancelled A New Horror IP Similar To Dead Space From Firesprite Studios

Story Highlight
  • Sony canned a sci-fi horror game in the vein of Dead Space that Firesprite was developing.
  • In addition to the horror title and the Twisted Metal Battle Royale, a VR game based on Breaking Bad was also axed by the company.
  • The studio is currently working on a narrative horror title for the PS5.

During the PS5 generation, Sony has cancelled countless exclusive titles, greatly reducing its first-party output. From the Days Gone trilogy to the live-service adaptations of The Last of Us and God of War, the Japanese giant has axed 10 games.

Firesprite is another developer that has been the victim of this treatment, with its Twisted Metal battle royale title getting cancelled, leading to layoffs in 2024. Now, a new report suggests that the studio was also working on other games that didn’t see the light of day, including a sci-fi horror title.

Why it matters: Sony’s indecisive strategy has wasted the time of both players and countless talented developers during the PS5 era.

According to a report from MP1st, Sony cancelled a new sci-fi horror IP similar to the Dead Space franchise at Firesprite studios, while also scrapping a Breaking Bad VR game

The new horror IP was in development between 2018 and 2020, but never went past the prototype stage. Concept art from a former Firesprite artist showed clear resemblance to the dark sci-fi themes of Dead Space, featuring a futuristic space setting and grotesque monsters.

In addition, a Breaking Bad VR project was also in the works at Firesprite, but ended up getting canned by Sony. The title was meant to be a narrative experience for the PSVR 2 that would take players through the iconic landscapes featured in the series with less focus on gameplay.

Breaking Bad VR Sony Firesprite
Series creator Vince Gilligan was collaborating with Firesprite on the VR game.

According to a Variety report that didn’t name the studio, the VR title had started development in 2017, with Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan collaborating. However, the project would be cancelled by Sony a year later, and Gilligan revealed in 2022 that millions of Dollars had already been spent on the game’s development.

Despite these cancellations, Firesprite is alive and is currently hard at work on a narrative horror title for the PS5.

Crimson Desert Devs Anonymously Reveal That The Game Went Through A Problematic Development Cycle

Story Highlight
  • Anonymous Crimson Desert devs have revealed the reason behind the game’s issues.
  • They say the studio had a toxic environment, which led to troubled development.
  • The story was decided just before the launch, and too many features were crammed.

Crimson Desert released just a couple of days ago and has already sold 2 million copies. The game had a gargantuan hype supporting its cause; unfortunately, there are many glaring issues that stop it from reaching its max potential.

The reviews are mixed, led by a weak story, overwhelming mechanics, and some other issues. Now, alleged anonymous Crimson Developers have revealed that the game went through problematic development

Why it matters: If this is indeed true, this explains why, in trying to do so much, the title loses some of its identity. We previously also discussed that the RPG might just be too ambitious for its own good

Anonymous devs reveal problems during Crimson Desert’s development

On Blind, a Gaming Industry Lounge, where only verified developers post, 2 different posts were spotted (via Reddit) revealing toxic culture at Pearl Abyss and how it affected the development of Crimson Desert.

The first post highlights one of the biggest downsides of the game: its story. It says that the story was only decided close to the release. Previously, it was about a mercenary group with a completely different protagonist.

Crimson Desert
The title tries to do too much and loses it somewhere in between

Additionally, the developers called out Pearl Abyss’s leadership. They stated that they were too stubborn and left no room for creative freedom, and the developers weren’t allowed to question anything they wanted to do.

They took inspiration from too many other games, so it became a “hodgepodge of features crammed together.” This is big if true, and could hurt the studio even more after its stocks previously fell by 30% following the mixed reviews.

VRAM in 2026: Why 12GB Is the New Minimum for 1440p

Story Highlights
  • In 2026, 12GB of VRAM will become the baseline for smooth 1440p gaming.
  • Modern game engines and high-resolution texture streaming are pushing VRAM demands beyond 8GB.
  • GPUs with 8GB VRAM now often struggle whilst playing heavy titles and require low settings or DLSS.
  • Ray tracing also demands high GPU power and puts pressure on VRAM; 8GB is not enough.

The gaming landscape has undergone a massive shift over the past few years. The minimum required computing power, specifically the video memory requirements, has increased significantly since just over two years ago.

This has left gamers running older hardware with stuttering textures and inconsistent frame rates. As game engines grow more demanding and developers strive for photorealistic assets without compromise, 12GB VRAM is not a luxury but a base requirement for 1440p gaming.

8GB is Not Enough Anymore

Microsoft recommends 12GB of VRAM in its most recent 2026 gaming hardware guide for 1440p gaming at high settings, with graphics cards such as the NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 4060 Ti, or the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT. These cards offer 8GB to 12GB of VRAM, with the RX 6700 XT carrying 12GB. Microsoft’s own recommendations acknowledge that 8GB cards are only good enough for 1080p gaming on medium settings.

This consensus exists throughout the industry, with multiple publications now recommending 12GB as the minimum for comfortable 1440p gaming in their hardware guidelines, and 16GB VRAM for texture-heavy games. To experience the games fully and in the most immersive way, developers increasingly use ray tracing, vast open worlds, and immersion that seemed absurd a few years ago.

What Happens When VRAM Runs Short

VRAM shortage manifests as micro-stutters, textures loading too late or remaining blurry for too long, brief pauses when entering a new location, and longer loading screens. Some users also report running into “out of video memory” errors. All of these issues combined tend to ruin player immersion and lead players to seek out more GPU power.

A game running at 80 frames per second that stutters every few seconds feels way worse than a game running at 30 FPS but smoothly. At 1440p, the texture setting consumes VRAM faster than any other setting. High visual fidelity alone often consumes 8GB of VRAM, and ray tracing on top uses whatever scraps are left, often exceeding the GPU’s capacity.

The GPU Market Has Moved On

Major manufacturers are phasing out the old 8 GB cards in their latest offerings. This trend becomes apparent when we look at the GPUs launching in 2026. NVIDIA RTX 5070 ships with 12GB GDDR7 memory, targeting the now-baseline 1440p high-refresh-rate gaming supported by DLSS 4.5.

The RTX 5060 Ti offers 16GB variants for budget 1440p PC builders. AMD’s RX 9060 XT comes with 16GB of mid-range memory, and the RX 9070 XT ships with 20GB of GDDR7 across a 256-bit bus.

Intel ARC B850

Budget-segment cards such as the Intel Arc B580 now also offer 12GB variants. Given that these “budget” or entry-level cards have 12GB of VRAM, it is apparent that a fundamental shift has taken place in the GPU industry, as modern games and players demand more power.

Real World Performance Tells a Story

Performance benchmarks further solidify the transition. The NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti, with its 16GB of VRAM, delivers smooth, stable performance in demanding games at medium settings, maintaining 80 FPS. The RTX 5060 8GB variant, on the other hand, reaches its limit much more quickly and requires texture reduction or DLSS to remain stable. When it comes to modern, fast-paced gaming, 8GB of VRAM fails to deliver.

RTX 5060 Ti
MSI RTX 5060 Ti – Image Credits (IXBT games)

At this moment, 16GB or even 20GB of VRAM isn’t about future-proofing. It’s all about playing today’s games with ray tracing enabled and locked frame rates for a smooth overall experience. This shows that games are progressing at a very fast pace, with every new AAA title demanding more power from the system, and that hardware will always be playing catch-up.

The 8GB Holdouts and Their Limits

Graphics cards with 8GB VRAM still have a place. They remain perfectly viable for 1080p gaming. For example, the RTX 5060 with 8GB VRAM delivers smooth performance at 1080p, often exceeding 90 frames per second with DLSS enabled. If you are playing games at a lower resolution, then 8GB GPUs still hold their ground even at high settings.

That said, 8GB falls short for more demanding titles. Titles such as Starfield, Cyberpunk 2077, and Alan Wake 2 at 1440p routinely exceed 10GB of VRAM usage. An 8GB card is not sufficient to play such titles today without compromise, let alone to future-proof for games yet to be released.

Final Thoughts

VRAM in 2026 is not about bragging rights or spec sheet comparisons. It’s about whether the game would stutter and whether textures load in real time or are blurry three seconds later. When it comes to playing demanding modern titles, 16GB VRAM is the way to go, as it offers greater stability and much smoother frame rates than 8GB.

Amazon CPU Sales Drop 47% Than A Year Ago, Marking The Collapse Of PC Industry

Story Highlight
  • CPU sales have plummeted, with Amazon reporting a 47% drop in early 2026 compared to the previous year.
  • RAM prices have spiked significantly, tripling or quadrupling in cost because the AI industry is consuming the available supply.
  • Consumers are choosing older or mid-range hardware, like the Ryzen 5 5500, to save money rather than buying the latest, more expensive generations.

Gaming on PC has been getting more expensive and demanding, but there is encouraging news for players. More and more people are turning to consoles as a budget-friendly alternative, making gaming easier to enjoy without spending much money. PC prices are still high, and memory shortages might stick around through 2026 and 2027, so this decrease in sales is obvious: the most recent numbers from Amazon USA show that 47% fewer CPUs were sold in Q1 2026 than in Q1 2025.

Several months earlier, we saw a significant price increase for RAM, with prices tripling or quadrupling. 32GB of DDR5 RAM used to cost under €100, but now costs between €300 and €400. And it isn’t even the fastest RAM available; in fact, 5600-6000 MHz CL40 modules are selling quickly. The AI industry’s demand for RAM exceeds existing supply and production capacity, resulting in a significant shortage.

Intel vs AMD CPU

As a result, PC shipments were expected to decline by more than 10% by 2026, and Amazon’s sales data are concerning. At least for CPUs, 3DCenter reports a 47% decrease in Q1 2026 (more properly, February) compared to the same period last year.

This sales figure is comparable to January 2026, when 26,100 units were sold. In comparison, 44,400 units were sold in December 2025, with 60,000 to 70,000 units sold in both November and October 2025.

The highest weekly sales figures were reported in June 2025, at 118,929 units. This data is sourced from TechEpiphany on X, which discloses weekly sales information for Mindfactory and Amazon.

This time, it was Amazon US that sold 25,700 processors. AMD accounted for 86.1% (23,000 units) at an average price of $281, retaining its solid lead and having no effect on its market share despite the current scenario. Intel sold 2,700 units for an average of $313.

Amazon Best Seller

The only change is the sales ratio: AM4 now accounts for 39% and AM5 for 47.2%, indicating that older CPUs are catching up with newer ones. In fact, the Ryzen 5 5500 is among the best-selling CPUs, which is surprising given that it is an entry-level or mid-range processor.

It would be close to the minimum requirements of high-end games, but with memory shortages and high prices, consumers want to save money. Nonetheless, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D remains a formidable rival, having sold 4,000 units, much like the 5500.

The Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Ryzen 7 5800XT follow, each with 2,000 units. At 1,000 units sold, we have the Ryzen 5600, Ryzen 5 9600X, Ryzen 5 7600X, and Ryzen 9 9950X3D. Finally, Intel leads the next group, with 500 units each of the Intel Core Ultra 7 265K and Core Ultra 9 285K processors.

Crimson Desert Reviews Improve To “Mostly Positive” On Steam

Story Highlight
  • Crimson Desert launched to “Mixed” reviews on Steam.
  • These reviews have improved gradually, and the game now has a “Mostly Positive” rating on the platform.
  • Some have even changed their negative review to positive today, claiming that the title becomes better as time goes on.

Crimson Desert became one of the most anticipated games of 2026 shortly before its release. Although the title ended up selling 2 million units in just 24 hours, its post-launch reception divided both players and critics.

On Steam, the game launched to a rating worse than that of Dragon Age Veilguard, but it seems players are now beginning to come around on the title. Crimson Desert’s Steam reviews have now improved to “Mostly Positive.”

Why it matters: It seems Pearl Abyss’ slow burn approach is working in the team’s favor since more and more gamers are beginning to appreciate what the title has to offer.

At the time of writing, around 73% of Crimson Desert’s 12,000+ reviews are positive on Steam. This means that close to 9,000 reviews are positive. This is quite the comeback since the title initially started out with “Mixed” reviews on Steam.

In the reviews section, some have specifically mentioned that they updated their review from negative to positive after spending more time with the game. In fact, Crimson Desert growing on people who spend more time on it seems to be a common theme in the reviews.

Other positive reviews have discussed the fact that the slower pace might initially dissuade players from enjoying the experience presented by Pearl Abyss. However, many argue that the title opens up a lot after a few hours.
