New Sony Job Listing Hints At More PlayStation Ports Coming To Xbox And Switch 2

Story Highlight
  • Sony is working on bringing more PlayStation ports to PC, Xbox, Switch 2, and even mobile.
  • Helldivers 2 launching on Xbox was both a surprising and bold move, potentially signalling the first of many ports to follow.
  • Sony is still thoughtful about porting titles, so don’t expect every franchise to arrive on other platforms.

In the past few years, gaming giants such as Sony and Microsoft have been more open to the idea of bringing their first-party titles to other platforms, which has been bearing fruit for them.

The latter Team Green, especially, has fully embraced the publisher path in contrast to Sony, which is still a bit reserved in the idea of porting games. That may not be the case for long, though, as a new job listing suggests PlayStation is expanding on the multiplatform route.

Why it matters: Sony’s first-party catalog stacks up strongly and earns praise for featuring some of the best single‑player games of all time. It’ll be exciting to see more of those titles on other platforms, especially on the Switch 2.

Sony Focused On Multiplatform Expansion As Per New Job Posting

Sony is currently looking to hire a Multiplatform and Account Management Senior Director. The said role will be responsible for expanding PlayStation titles to other platforms such as PC, Xbox, Switch 2, and, interestingly, even mobile.

While Sony has been entirely open with the idea of porting first-party exclusives to PC after a year or two of the game’s release, the inclusion of Xbox and Switch 2 on this list is a surprising development that has made the console competition just a little more exciting.

Xbox Fans Demanding A Spider-Man 2 Port From Insomniac

Recently, we saw Helldivers 2 being announced for Xbox, a move that caught many by surprise. According to this job posting, Helldivers 2 could start a trend of PlayStation ports releasing on Xbox, and we’ll find out soon enough.

Anyhow, it’s important to note that Sony recently stated they carefully consider which franchises they will bring to other platforms. As such, future ports could be multiplayer games such as the upcoming Marathon, since porting first-party games may not be as feasible.

Battlefield 6 Battle Royale Mode Has Reportedly Been Pushed To 2026

Story Highlight
  • Battlefield 6 is set to release on October 10, 2026, but its battle royale mode won’t arrive on the same day.
  • As per a new report, the game’s battle royale mode will be free, but it will be released months after the base title’s release.
  • As there is no official confirmation, we recommend taking this news with a grain of salt.

It has been a long time since the last Battlefield title was released. As the previous title in the series was a disaster and received a lot of negative reviews, Dice admits to shortcomings and promises the fandom to deliver a far better game

The trailer was just recently released, and while it was mostly CGI, the fandom is still sceptical. However, a gameplay reveal will be made on the 31st, so tune in for that. Also, fans should note that on October 10 (only on current-gen consoles and PC), only the base game will release, as according to a new report, the Battle Royale will arrive months after.

Why it matters: Releasing the battle royale after the base game may be beneficial for the developers, as this way they would have more time on hand to make it better for the players.

Battlefield 6 Battle Royale Mode
Battlefield 6 Battle Royale Mode Is Reported To Arrive Months After Base Game

This rumour comes from the latest post of a Kick streamer, rivaLxfactor, on X, formerly known as Twitter. The user revealed that, as per two different sources, the Battlefield 6 battle royale mod will be a free-to-play one and will come out months after the base game’s release.

I’ve heard from two sources now that Battlefield 6 Battle Royale will not only be free to play but won’t come out till months after the base game. Obviously, a lot can change between now and then.

For those unaware, EA seems to have mistakenly revealed the game’s release date. As the pre-order bonus ends on October 10, the title is expected to be released on the same date. As Battlefield 6 will release in late 2025, and the battle royale mode is expected months after its release, it will come next year.

However, as rivaLxfactor said, this can change between now and then, so fans should take this news with a massive grain of salt, as nothing has been officially confirmed yet.

Monster Hunter Wilds Is One of The Most Successful Worst-Rated Games of All Time

Story Highlight
  • Monster Hunter Wilds currently has overwhelmingly negative reviews on Steam.
  • The game managed to break all Capcom sales records despite poor optimizations.
  • It is now among the most successful, worst-rated titles of all time.

Monster Hunter Wilds released on February 27th to over 1 million concurrent players on Steam. It broke all previous Capcom sales records, registering 10 million copies sold in one month. However, it had some serious issues despite the enormous financial success.

Almost five months since its release, Monster Hunter World still holds multiple sales records, but unfortunately, its recent Steam reviews have fallen to ‘Overwhelmingly Negative’ with all-time reviews at ‘Mixed’.

Why it matters: The current state of the title makes it one of the most successful, worst-rated titles of all time. Despite months since launch, Capcom has yet to get rid of a lot of the reported issues.

Monster Hunter Reviews
Monster Hunter Wilds has mixed overall Steam reviews, but is still very successful.

So, overall, with the gameplay, visuals, and combat, everything has been done really well, but jumping into the game and playing it is where the issues start. Monster Hunter Wilds is among the worst-optimized games on PC.

You can hardly appreciate all the effort put into the world-building because, at times, you can’t even play the game. It is known for random crashes, bad performance of high-end hardware, and subpar graphics with mid-range GPUs.

Monster Hunter Wilds
It is one of the worst-optimized titles, especially on PC.

But within the heart of it all is a fantastic title that is worth every penny. Therefore, even with its issues, it still averages 50K players, and until the last few months was easily crossing 100K concurrent players.

However, all this is rather unfortunate, considering that when you pay so much for a game, you expect a finished and polished experience. It performs better on consoles, but for PC, the optimization is a mess, and Capcom should look into it.

Nintendo Switch 2 Becomes Japan’s Fastest-Selling Console Ever

Story Highlight
  • Nintendo Switch 2 broke the record for the fastest-selling console in Japan, with over 1.5 million units sold in the first month.
  • Its launch sales in Japan exceeded those of the Game Boy Advance and the PlayStation 2.
  • Moreover, the console sold 3.5 million units globally in its first four days.

After becoming popular in March 2017, the Nintendo Switch is now the third-best-selling system in history, after only the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS. After eight years, it is time to unveil the Nintendo Switch 2, which sold 3.5 million units in its first four days of release. In nearly every country, the system broke sales records.

In the United States, it sold 1.1 million copies in its first week of availability. Given its popularity in Japan, it should come as no surprise that the Nintendo Switch 2 is the best-selling system there, outselling the PlayStation 2 and Game Boy Advance, which previously held the top spots.

Nintendo Swtich 2

According to Famitsu data reported by Yomiuri Shimbun, the Nintendo Switch sold 1,538,260 units in its first month of release. This becomes the fastest-selling system in Japan since Famitsu began tracking sales in 1996.

Nintendo has had enormous success with practically all of its handheld consoles, and we could claim that Sony was successful, but only with the PlayStation Portable; the PS Vita was a complete flop.

It is impossible to say the same for Nintendo, whose greatest failure was the Wii U, a home console with a controller and a screen for remote gameplay. Fortunately, the Switch was a big success.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is currently the best-selling system in Japan, according to publicly available sales data. The Switch 2 outsold the Game Boy Advance (1,367,433) and the PlayStation 2 (1,134,862) in its first month of sales, totalling 1,538,260 copies, or well over 1.5 million.

Laid Off Xbox Employee Defends Microsoft; Says Everyone Need To Embrace AI

Story Highlight
  • Microsoft’s latest layoffs impacted nearly 10,000 professionals and were a result of a nearly $80 billion AI investment.
  • One laid-off Xbox employee states that Microsoft’s decision to invest in AI is reasonable despite the negative impacts.
  • He states that everyone needs to adapt to AI before they get left behind.

Microsoft’s layoffs continue to impact thousands of employees. The company’s latest job cuts were largely driven by an $80 billion AI investment, impacting all divisions, including Xbox.

In fact, the gaming division also saw major cancellations like Perfect Dark. While most of the ex-employees are not too happy with the events that transpired this month, one former Xbox team member has defended Microsoft’s AI investment.

Why it matters: Although practically every large company is investing in AI today, Microsoft plans to be a leader in the field of artificial intelligence soon. This is why the company has resorted to extensive job cuts in pursuit of these ambitions.

Former Xbox Strategist Comments On Recent Layoffs And AI Investments | Image via X

Bradon Stirrup was part of Xbox Game Studios, working as a Senior Business Manager since 2022. Additionally, the ex-Microsoft employee had worked in various other roles over nearly 10 years at Microsoft.

In a recent tweet addressing the layoffs, he stated that Microsoft’s investment in AI is understandable. He noted that AI needs to be embraced by all, and those who fail to do so will be replaced.

I was laid off by Xbox, but I understand Microsoft’s investment in AI.

In a follow-up tweet, Brandon Stirrup explained that he is an avid user of the technology himself. He clarified that his role involves devising strategies instead of engineering for Xbox, yet he was still let go.

Xbox Still Has A Solid Lineup For The Future

Brandom Stirrup’s tweet attracted mixed responses, with many expressing doubts about the long-term impacts of artificial intelligence.

However, industry veterans like Gabe Newell would likely agree with the statement since the Valve CEO recently emphasized the importance of AI and adapting to the technology for all professionals.

Forza Horizon 5 Has Sold Four Times More Copies Than Death Stranding 2 On The PS5

Story Highlight
  • Forza Horizon 5 has sold 4 times more copies than Death Stranding 2, despite being a 4-year-old release.
  • The top 10 selling chart for the most downloaded game on PlayStation during Q2 has 3 Xbox published releases.
  • More titles from Team Green are expected to arrive on the rival platform later this year, so expect a continued dominance.

Xbox’s multiplatform strategy has started to do wonders for the gaming giant, and it seems like its billion-dollar investments are finally starting to pay off. Most notably, Forza Horizon, one of the biggest Xbox first-party franchises and the biggest racing franchise right now, has been quite profitable on the rival platform.

Now, sales figures reveal that Forza Horizon 5, a 4-year-old title, has outsold Death Stranding 2, a new PS5 exclusive, by achieving 4 times the sales in contrast.

Why it matters: For an old release to outsell one of the best-rated titles this year is a huge accomplishment and all the reason for Xbox to continue down the publisher path.

Sales Estimate Figures For PlayStation New Releases In Q2 || Via: Gamediscover

A new report by Gamediscover estimates that Forza Horizon 5 has sold more than 4 million copies. In comparison, Death Stranding 2 has only managed to break the 1 million sales barrier.

It’s important to note that these estimates are for Q2 of 2025, which started from April and ended in June.

Furthermore, Xbox has published three of the titles in this list, including Forza Horizon 5, Oblivion Remastered, and Doom: The Dark Ages. Oblivion Remastered has just sold a little under a million copies, but was also the most downloaded game on the PlayStation Store alongside Forza Horizon 5 in April.

More Xbox Layoffs Expected In The Future As The Division Was Only Profitable During The 360 Era

Ghost of Yotei is the only first-party PlayStation release this year, with Death Stranding 2 being a publishing deal.

More Xbox titles are expected to arrive on PlayStation later this year, which are speculated to be South of Midnight, Starfield, and more. As such, expect Xbox to continue selling big on the rival platform.

AMD RDNA 5 GPUs Reportedly Start At 12GB, Flagship Reaches 36GB—Competes With RTX 6090

Story Highlight
  • AMD’s RDNA 5 GPUs will start at 12GB VRAM, with the flagship model featuring 36GB GDDR7, aiming to compete with RTX 6090.
  • As such, AMD is completely ditching the 8GB GPUs, which are considered outdated and insufficient for gamers.
  • Launching around 2026–2027, they will be a part of Project Amethyst, shaping future tech like the PS6.

AMD’s RDNA 4 GPU lineup was quite a success and made waves in the mid-range GPU market. The RTX 9000 series is a bang for the buck and has finally caught up to Nvidia following their subpar release of the RTX 50-series GPUs.

That is, AMD is yet to go toe-to-toe against Nvidia in the higher-end GPU market. Fortunately, Team Red is supposedly bringing back its flagship GPUs with the next generation of RDNA 5 GPUs, which will go as much as 36GB, even further and beyond the current RTX 5090.

Why it matters: AMD is finally picking up the pace in the GPU segment after one poor lineup from Nvidia. As such, expect a more equal competition in the Graphics Card market, which will be exciting for the consumers to say the least.

As stated by Moore’s Law is Dead in the latest YouTube video, the RDNA 5 lineup will altogether ditch the 8GB GPU models and begin from 12GB instead. The RX 9060XT faced a lot of criticism for still sporting 8GB VRAM in 2025, so this is a big step forward.

The flagship GPU from Team Red will feature 36GB of GDDR7 memory, 154 CUs, 1,728 GB/s bandwidth, and a 380W TDP. As such, the RX 10090 XT directly targets Nvidia’s 6090 GPU.

PS6 And Next-Gen Xbox To Use AI-Based AMD UDNA; Launch Expected in 2027

RDNA 5 GPUs are currently expected for 2026-2027, with a 2027 release being more feasible. Furthermore, these GPUs will also be a result of Project Amethyst, a collaboration between Sony and AMD will also define tech for the PS6.

As such, this next-gen GPU release will offer the first glimpse at PS6’s tech and hopefully, Sony’s collaboration and input will make it a much more competent release, capable on equal footing with Nvidia.

Battlefield 6 Trailer Gets More Likes Than COD Black Ops 7 In Only 1 Hour

Story Highlight
  • The Battlefield 6 reveal trailer gained more likes in a single hour compared to Black Ops 7’s month-old 40 million-view trailer.
  • Despite being CGI, the Battlefield 6 trailer garnered 194k likes compared to only 11k dislikes an hour after its release.
  • The like-to-dislike ratio is much more varied for the Black Ops 7 trailer, with 140k likes compared to a concerning 90k dislike figure.

A slew of rumors has suggested that EA has a grand vision for Battlefield 6, and fans are also hoping for the best after the last title fumbled the ball. Now, it seems like the game may have achieved its first victory right after the official reveal—and against COD, no less.

The Battlefield 6 reveal trailer gained more likes in a single hour compared to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s trailer, which is a month old at this point. The new campaign trailer proved to be popular despite being CGI, with hype driving most of the positive reactions so far.

Why it matters: The popularity of the Battlefield 6 trailer suggests that fans are eagerly waiting for another title in the franchise despite having many lingering concerns after the last few failures.

An hour after the upload, the Battlefield 6 trailer had garnered over 194K likes against a relatively low dislike ratio. The trailer has now grown to 5.85 million views and 392K likes at the time of writing, with dislikes only hovering around 11K.

On the flip side, the Black Ops 7 trailer is now sitting at 40 million views, with only 146K likes to complement the reveal. The disappointingly high 90K dislikes also suggest that fans are not satisfied with the direction of the new game.

Therefore, some fans suspect Battlefield 6 may finally have a chance to outperform Call of Duty if EA manages to capture this hype and satisfy the hungry player base without any controversies or mishaps.

Battlefield 6 is bringing back some of the series’ best classic mechanics.

The game is reportedly aiming to launch on October 10, 2025, for PC and next-gen consoles only. It is targeting the $80 price tag despite EA previously claiming not to follow the new standard yet.

Do you think Battlefield 6 will be the first entry in the franchise to finally surpass a Call of Duty game by a massive margin, or will this anticipation wear off? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Battlefield 6 Won’t Release On Last-Gen Consoles Unlike COD

Story Highlight
  • It has been officially confirmed that Battlefield 6 won’t be released on the last-gen consoles.
  • Because Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be released on the last-gen consoles, fans were expecting Battlefield to follow suit.
  • The game will also not be released on the latest Nintendo console, at least for now.

A significant number of players from last-gen consoles make up around half of the total Call of Duty users today. This may come as a surprise given how long it has been since the current-gen consoles were released.

Due to that, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be released on last-gen consoles, such as the PS4 and Xbox One. This also means that fans were expecting Battlefield to follow the same trend, as the developer aims for it to reach 100 million players.

However, it has been officially confirmed that the game won’t release on the older hardware.

Why it matters: To this day, many players still use last-gen consoles, but it is quite challenging for developers to release games with modern graphics on older hardware.

Battlefield 6
Battlefield 6 is a highly anticipated title in the series.

The platforms for Battlefield 6 were confirmed after the release of the first trailer. Battlefield 6 will ship on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and Steam, and it appears to be skipping the Nintendo Switch 2, as the game’s website does not mention this platform.

The first official trailer surprised the fandom quite a bit, as it featured immense destructionwhich the developer had promised previously. This destruction and other ambitious ideas are likely why the studio decided to ditch last-gen consoles altogether.

However, most of the trailer didn’t feature in-game footage, so fans should wait till 31st July. A major multiplayer reveal is set for this date, which should reveal plenty of in-game footage and uncut gameplay.

It should also be noted that EA seems to have mistakenly revealed the game’s release date.

The disclaimer text mentions that the pre-order offer will expire on October 10, 2025, indicating that Battlefield 6 is targeting an October release window. As such, the game will be released on Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, and PC on October 10, 2025, for €80.

What do you think about the fact that the upcoming Battlefield is skipping older hardware in favor of the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X?

Do you think the game can still reach up to 100 million players? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion.

Ubisoft Reportedly Scrapped Star Wars Outlaws Sequel Following Poor Sales

Story Highlight
  • Star Wars Outlaws was reportedly set for a sequel, but the game has been cancelled.
  • Reports outline that the project was early in development and did not enter production.
  • Ubisoft recently blamed the dwindling interest in Star Wars for the game’s failure.

Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws remains one of the most disappointing releases in recent memory. The publisher previously noted that the game had underperformed and recently pointed to the larger state of Star Wars as one potential reason behind the performance.

In the aftermath, it became clear that Star Wars Outlaws had failed to become the big hit Ubisoft wanted. A new report also states that a sequel to the game has now been cancelled.

Why it matters: Ubisoft is famous for its long-running franchises, but it seems the publisher is moving away from this strategy.

According to Tom Henderson, Ubisoft had planned and begun work on a Star Wars Outlaws sequel. This project was part of the studio’s big ambitions to continue a Star Wars open-world gaming universe, but things did not go according to plan.

They also recently cancelled Star Wars Outlaws 2.

-Tom Henderson

The insider noted that the game had not entered production and was very early in development. Because Star Wars Outlaws was just released last year and is still receiving updates, the game was likely in the planning stage.

However, Ubisoft went through its fair share of struggles in 2024 and is currently undergoing a significant restructuring. This turmoil seems to have sealed the fate of Star Wars Outlaws 2, in addition to the disappointing commercial performance.

Star Wars Outlaws
Star Wars Outlaws failed to meet expectations

Tom Henderson also discussed other Ubisoft cancellations, including a smaller-scale Far Cry project built on Unreal Engine. All of these games were scrapped early in development.

What do you make of the cancelled Star Wars Outlaws sequel? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Xbox Backtracks On Abandoning Physical Games; Discs Confirmed For Major Upcoming Releases

Story Highlight
  • Physical copies of Ninja Gaiden 4 and The Outer Worlds 2 were previously confirmed to ship without discs on Xbox.
  • A retailer has confirmed that this is no longer the case.
  • Xbox seems to have backtracked on the decision to abandon physical media.

Xbox has made dramatic changes to its business model over the last year, and not every change has been well-received by the fans.

Not too long ago, it was noted that major AAA Xbox releases like Ninja Gaiden 4 would not ship with discs for the physical Xbox release. Fans were not too happy about this discovery, but it seems that Xbox has now backtracked on this decision.

Why it matters: Xbox also backtracked on the decision to price The Outer Worlds 2 at $80 recently, showing the gaming giant’s willingness to listen to audience feedback.

Ninja Gaiden 4 Disc On Xbox
Ninja Gaiden 4 Will Ship With A Disc On Xbox | Image via PNP Games

According to retailer PNP Games, both Ninja Gaiden 4 Deluxe and The Outer Worlds 2 will be released as disc-based physical copies. This change is now also reflected on the retailer’s website.

However, PNP Games has not been able to confirm whether the disc will hold the full game or not. This is important since past Xbox disc-based releases have required a full game download to function, relegating the disc to a function similar to that of a key.

There is a chance that both Ninja Gaiden 4 and The Outerworlds 2 will follow a similar approach, but fans of physical games will still have something more substantial for their collections even if this ends up being the case.

Additionally, it is speculated that Xbox backtracked on this decision due to poor physical sales. Fans had similar thoughts about The Outer Worlds 2 after the gaming giant confirmed the latest price cut.

In any case, this change could be part of a broader shift toward Xbox’s relation with physical games. Perhaps the gaming giant is not willing to part ways with disc-based media just yet.

Xbox Physical Game
The Industry Remains Skeptical About An All-Digital Approach

Both Ninja Gaiden 4 and The Outer Worlds 2 are slated for an October release. The former marks the long-anticipated return of Team Ninja’s iconic character action IP. Meanwhile, the latter should prove to be another valuable addition to Xbox’s games lineup this year.

Both titles will also be available as part of Xbox Game Pass from day one.

What do you think about Xbox deciding to offer discs with these games again? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.
