AMD Gains Ground on Intel as Desktop CPU Share Surges 40% YoY

Story Highlight
  • AMD has gained nearly 40% more desktop CPU market share year-on-year, thanks to the successful release of the Ryzen 9000 lineup.
  • Team Red achieves its peak popularity on Steam, with almost 40% of users on board.
  • All hope rides on Nova Lake CPUs for 2026, and until then, expect continued AMD dominance.

Intel is going through a rough period as it lags behind the competition. AMD, on the other hand, is on a rising trajectory as it continues to close in on the gap with Team Blue.

New reports show that AMD is snatching away the CPU market share from rival Intel. Team Red’s desktop market share has gained 9.2 points or a 40% increase YoY, with the latest Ryzen 9000 series CPUs being a successful release.

Why it matters: For decades, Intel has claimed the top spot in the CPU market, with AMD struggling to play catch-up. However, their lack of innovation and awareness of competition is gradually pushing them aside.

AMD’s Market Share On All Forefronts For Q2 2025

According to new data shared by Mercury Research (data provided by AMD), Team Red has been steadily gaining new customers on the server and desktop front. This year, they reported a 20.5% year-over-year increase in revenue in the desktop segment.

Previous reports also revealed that newer CPU customers are shifting heavily towards AMD since the newer Ryzen 9000 CPUs overpower Intel’s 14th-gen processors.

Moreover, AMD CPUs have also reached a peak popularity on Steam after 17 years, with 40% users now rocking Team Red.

Intel
Intel Layoffs 5000 Employees After It Admits That It’s Too Late To Catch Up To Competition

On the server end, a minor 3.4% increase was made in market share compared to last year, while revenue was bumped up by a staggering 7.2%.

The mobile CPU market share is the only place AMD is lagging behind, or worse, has lost market share. They actually lost 1.9% market share from the last quarter, but it’s still a 0.3% increase year-over-year. Revenue was also slashed by 0.7% from last quarter, but it is a jump of 3.8% compared to last year.

Looks like it’ll be another few tough months for Intel until 2026, when they plan to release the next generation of Nova Lake CPUs. Till then, expect Team Red’s continued dominance.

Following Battlefield 6 Rise in Popularity, 2042 Is Reportedly Getting A Massive Update

Story Highlight
  • Battlefield 6’s open beta has been so successful that it has surpassed the peak concurrent players of Black Ops 6.
  • Riding that momentum, EA now seems to be capitalizing on the hype by rolling out a major update for Battlefield 2042.
  • The update may include a new map, new weapons, new vault vehicles, and Pax Armata-themed cosmetics.

Battlefield 6’s open beta has been met with overwhelmingly positive reception. It impressed fans enough to secure a wave of pre-orders, a remarkable turnaround considering many players were hesitant after the disaster that was Battlefield 2042.

On Steam alone, the game has already racked up over 605,000 pre-orders, making it a massive success before launch. EA, however, seems keen to capitalize on this momentum, as it’s now reportedly rolling out a major update for the last entry in the series.

Why it matters: If the developer manages to improve the game by a lot and add some much-requested features, the fandom may want to give it a try before Battlefield 6 releases.

Ex-PlayStation Boss Believes Games Prices Should Go Up Every Generation

Story Highlight
  • The former boss of PlayStation recently shared his thoughts on game prices.
  • He said that the current game prices are too low and they should go up by every generation.
  • Layden thinks that the prices are not increasing because everyone is too scared to lose traffic.

Increasing the prices of games has always been controversial. Nintendo recently increased the prices of its games to $80, which met with massive criticism, but the gaming giant didn’t bend a knee

Similarly, Microsoft followed suit and announced its first $80 game. However, the backlash was too massive that it had to revert to the $70 price bracket so fans can be pleased, too. Despite the controversy, the former PlayStation boss believes $80 is still too low, arguing that game prices should increase with each new console generation.

Why it matters: While it’s true that development costs and timelines keep climbing, that’s often because studios overcomplicate projects. A game doesn’t need to be massive to succeed; if it’s short, high-quality, and marketed well, it can still sell strongly and turn a profit.

$80 Games
Increase in the game prices has always attracted massive controversy

Shawn Layden, the former boss of PlayStation, shared his thoughts on the game prices in a new interview with Gamesindustry.biz. He said that game prices should increase with every generation, but no one does this because everyone is afraid to lose traffic and get backlash

I think it’s because everyone’s afraid. No one wants to be the first one to raise the price, because you’re afraid to lose traffic. So what you do is you just end up eating into your operating income, your profit margin.

-Shawn Layden

Layden further noted that the the premium games have been costing the same money for past two decade while their development cost and time has been increased. He also took inflation into account.

outer worlds 2 halo
Outer Worlds 2 $80 price tag was met with nothing but criticism

Games should have increased in price with every new generation.

He went on to explain that keeping game prices the same while development costs soar inevitably leads to shrinking profits.

Layden compared the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 4 eras, noting that selling 20 million copies of a $60 game that cost $10 million to make is very different from selling the same number of copies of a $60 game that cost $160 million to develop.

GTA 6 Could Redefine The Industry’s Focus On Live-Service Models, Says Former EA Producer

Story Highlight
  • Former BioWare exec Mark Darrah says that 2025 has been the worst year for the gaming industry.
  • He says that gamers might be ready to move away from live-service titles, and Clair Obscur 33 is a testament to that.
  • GTA 6 will be the defining moment as its sales outcome will determine if the industry moves away or doubles down on live-service games.

All eyes are on Rockstar for the highly anticipated release of GTA 6 next year. Now that a release date is finalised with no further delays expected, GTA 6 is shaping up the entire industry for good despite not even releasing yet.

The current focus on live-service games has ruined the industry, and it’s only getting worse. According to a former EA producer, GTA 6 will influence the outcome and potentially guide the industry’s direction away from or further into the live-service trend.

Why it matters: The focus on live-service games has led to several studios shutting down and the layoff of some great industry talent. A new direction sounds optimistic for the future of the gaming industry.

Mark Darrah, a former BioWare Veteran, said that 2025 has been more brutal for the gaming industry than ever. He also said that Clair Obscur 33 is a strong signal that gamers want to move away from the current live-service push.

The AA game was quite successful for its minimal budget and is proving that smaller-budget games are the future of the industry right now.

Still, GTA 6 will determine the final outcome, whether it succeeds in proportion to its big budget and hype or not. If the game turns out to be the biggest launch ever, the industry may even double down on the live-service push and big blockbusters, as it always follows suit.

EA Rejected Multiple Dragon Age Remaster/Remake Proposals

However, if it doesn’t, then it’s the signal that gamers are ready to move away to smaller releases, similar to Clair Obscur 33, as suggested.

That may not happen, however. Analysts already predict GTA 6 to sell a whopping 85 million copies in just 2 months, and that may even happen, considering how much hyped the game is getting.

Subscription Models Like Game Pass Force Devs to Become ‘Wage Slaves’, Says Former PlayStation Exec

Story Highlight
  • Shawn Layden says that Game Pass makes developers ‘wage slaves’.
  • However, indie titles may benefit from the subscription model.
  • The gaming market is a troubled place, with most titles destined for failure even before they launch.

The Game Pass debate has heated up significantly in recent months, particularly following allegations that the subscription service contributed to the recent layoffs at Xbox. While the service may be appealing for gamers, it is quite the opposite for developers, costing them a significant portion of sales and profits for a fair bit of exposure.

Former PlayStation executive Shawn Layden thinks the same. As per his words, subscription services like Game Pass are not feasible for developers and essentially turn them into ‘wage slaves.’

Why it matters: The gaming industry is in a terrible condition, and giant corporations are the ones to blame.

Xbox Game Pass
Xbox Pays $50k To $50 Million To Secure Titles For Game Pass

Speaking to Gamesindustry, Layden questioned the idea of AAA games launching day one on Game Pass. Speaking against the idea, he admitted that now that the idea is out there, it’s difficult to go back.

Stating that developers become wage slaves under the service, he said:

They’re not creating value, putting it in the marketplace, hoping it explodes, and profit sharing, and overages, and all that nice stuff. It’s just, ‘You pay me X dollars an hour, I built you a game, here, go put it on your servers’

Putting AAA games on a service, developers trade off their potential sales for just a fraction of profit. However, they have no other way either since the gaming market has become so saturated that video games have fewer chances of succeeding day by day.

I don’t think it’s really inspiring for game developers.

At the same time, Layden also acknowledged that Game Pass might do well for Indie titles, giving them the exposure they desperately need.

Games Like Fortnite Are More Harmful To The Industry Than Game Pass, As Per Analyst

The gaming industry is structured in a way that most video games are set up for failure even before their release. Live-service games have done more harm in this regard. As stated in the same article, F2P games have crowded the market so much that gamers no longer need to purchase the game.

RTX 50 Refresh Prices Cut as RTX 5080 Super Now Expected at $999

Story Highlight
  • The RTX 50 Super lineup has experienced a price reduction of up to $150..
  • The Super lineup will now cost the same as the base RTX 50 series.
  • Currently, the RTX 50 Super GPUs are targeting a Q4 2025 release.

Nvidia fell a little behind the competition with the RTX 50-series lineup that frankly turned out to be a disappointment. Underwhelming performance, burning issues, higher price tags, and a shortage of supply made the Blackwell GPUs a disaster.

The graphics giant aims to rectify some of these mistakes with the RTX 50 Super GPUs. As such, Nvidia is cutting down the prices of the upcoming RTX 50 Super GPUs that will now cost the same as the base Blackwell GPUs, with the benefit of increased performance.

Why it matters: With increased competition from AMD, some sense has finally been knocked into Nvidia. Hopefully, the RTX 50 Super lineup will redeem the manufacturer for the disaster it made this year.

As per RedGamingGiant, the RTX 5080 Super has a new price tag of $999, which is a whopping $150 discount from the previous price point of $1149. The RTX 5070ti Super will also receive a $100 discount, and as for the RTX 5070 Super, it will be priced at $549 only.

Previously, reports have suggested a massive VRAM upgrade for these GPUs that will be bumped up to a whopping 50%. That is a welcome upgrade since the lack of VRAM was the biggest issue with the base Blackwell GPUs.

As such, the RTX 5080 Super and RTX 5070 Super are both set to feature 24GB GDDR7 Memory, while the RTX 5070 Super will feature 18GB GDDR7 memory

Another RTX 5090 Bites The Dust As Power Delivery Cable Malfunctions.

The price cut in these GPUs occurred due to the oversupply from Nvidia’s end, as well as the poor sales of the Blackwell GPUs. Revisions are expected to start this month for the base RTX 50 GPUs.

Nvidia would want the RTX 50 GPU stocks to sell out as quickly as possible, as the tech giant plans a Q4 2025 release for the RTX 50 Super GPUs, which would be less than a year after the original RTX 50 GPU releases.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows to Return to the Franchise’s Roots with Upcoming Claws of Awaji DLC

Story Highlight
  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows will receive a new DLC expansion titled Claws of Awaji on 16 September.
  • The DLC is expected to return the game to the franchise’s roots by featuring some real Assassins vs Templars conflicts.
  • The DLC offers more than 10 hours of new content, exploring Naoe and Yasuke’s characters in greater depth.

Initially a part of the main game, the Claws of Awaji expansion was reportedly cut from the final release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows due to the developers not meeting the deadline.

The DLC has now finally been given a release date of 16 September after months of development. Now, Ubisoft developers have teased that the expansion might be bringing the game back to the series’ roots, featuring a proper Assassin’s vs Templar clash.

Why it matters: With each entry passing by, newer Assassin’s Creed games have lost the essence of the original games and what made them so special. It’ll be nice to know that Ubisoft is attempting to reconnect with the series’ roots.

Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag Remake Teased; Announcement Coming Soon

A few developers behind Assassin’s Creed Shadows recently conducted an AMA session on Reddit. One interesting question from a fan was whether to expect more clashes between Assassins and Templars in the future. The response was quite intriguing.

The Assassins vs. Templars conflict has always been a core pillar of Assassin’s Creed — with Shadows, we first set the protagonist in the setting before expanding on it — now that’s done, we’ve scratched the surface with the Critical Role story drop, and more deep dives are coming soon.

The Claws of Awaji is said to focus more on Naoe and Yasuke’s backgrounds, and the Templars might play a massive role in this regard. Taking place on a brand-new island of Awaji, this new expansion promises more than 10 hours of new content.

Claws of Awaji will also introduce brand-new elements, including a new weapon. At the same time, players search for a mysterious treasure on the island, all while being pursued by a mysterious enemy.

More future content is planned for the game as well as new modern-day content from the Animus hub.

BioWare Had Multiple Flops Because It Developed Games Simultaneously, Studio Veteran Says

Story Highlight
  • BioWare veteran Mark Darrah claims that the studio had multiple failures because it did not focus on a single project at a time.
  • He believes EA caused a cannibalization of talent, which made the team compromise on games like Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
  • He argues that BioWare games would have done much better if the studio had focused on them one at a time.

BioWare was once a behemoth in the gaming industry with its compelling RPGs, but many recent releases have sullied its name. Dragon Age: The Veilguard was especially a disaster for the franchise and the studio as a whole.

Popular BioWare veteran developer Mark Darrah claims that all this could have been prevented if the studio had focused on one project at a time instead of dividing its forces. He argues that EA caused a cannibalization of talent at the studio.

Why it matters: The company has struggled to find its footing in the last decade under the leadership of EA. A BioWare veteran believes the studio might have enjoyed milestones instead of woes if it had developed one game at a time.

In an interview with MrMattyPlays, Mark argues that BioWare was involved with multiple games simultaneously. This proved to be a recipe for disaster for the small studio, with veteran talents like Casey Hudson also eventually quitting after growing tired of the leadership.

We Tried To Do Multiple Things … At The Same Time. If you look at like DICE, basically they’re just doing one thing at a time. Sometimes that does really well.

Therefore, the team took shortcuts and cut corners with Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Anthem because EA prioritized some entries over others; for example, Mass Effect Andromeda reportedly got more attention at EA than Veilguard.

when you’re doing two, three, five things at a time, […] you need to be big. And what was happening was a lot of Cannibalization [of talent].

Dragon Age The Veilguard Gayming GOTY
Dragon Age: The Veilguard failed to impress gamers.

Mark has now urged the current BioWare developers to use Dragon Age: The Veilguard as a scapegoat to get what they want for the next Mass Effect game from EA.

Do you think BioWare would have developed a much better Anthem or Dragon Age: The Veilguard if it had focused on one title at a time? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Resident Evil Requiem Will Feature Last of Us Part 2’s Combat

Story Highlight
  • Insider claims Resident Evil Requiem will feature combat inspired by The Last of Us Part 2.
  • Leon’s segment will feature innovative combat, suggesting enhanced stealth and enemy takedown mechanics.
  • The game will also feature open-world segments, like Raccoon City, and a vehicle to travel around it.

The Resident Evil IP had been dormant for the last few years, with RE9 being delayed at various points in development. The series surged back in popularity as soon as Resident Evil Requiem was revealed, and it is shaping up to be quite a different game than expected.

Now, popular Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem claims that Requiem is so innovative that its combat directly borrows from The Last of Us Part 2. The Leon combat segments come with enhanced and satisfying stealth mechanics.

Why it matters: The new scoops suggest that Resident Evil Requiem is shaping up to be a vastly different game than the series’ last few hits when it comes to combat and its psychological horror storytelling.

Resident Evil Requiem is allegedly going to have The Last of Us Part 2-inspired combat.

Talking on X, Dusk Golem also reveals that the segments for Grace in Resident Evil Requiem will focus on environmental interactivity not seen in past RE titles. Meaning, taking down enemies using the environment will feel more fluid and immersive, like in The Last of Us.

The enemy AI, especially for the Stalker, uses a new dynamic system to have the creature behave uniquely and intelligently on the go. This emergent system will also make gameplay feel fresh in every new Stalker encounter and playthrough.

Additionally, Capcom is focusing on improving the game’s performance in areas with more open-level designs, such as Raccoon City. Players will have a vehicle to travel around the open areas for easier traversal.

Resident Evil Requiem is also aiming to be a more terrifying experience.

Capcom is also aiming to close the ongoing storyline with Resident Evil Requiem. Therefore, Leon will vanish from the series’ timeline for good in the future mainline entries, as the studio will likely focus on a new story entirely.

Do you think Resident Evil Requiem will stand out from some of the franchise’s last few games due to its new combat? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Crimson Desert Has Been Delayed To Q1 2026

  • Story Highlight
  • Crimson Desert, the first large-scale AAA game by Pearl Abyss, was set to release this year.
  • The developer previously announced that the game will be released on 2 November 2025.
  • However, it has been delayed to Q1 2026 for further polish, but will still be playable at Gamescom and Tokyo Games Show.

Crimson Desert, one of the most highly anticipated games of 2025, has unfortunately been hit with a delay as development is taking longer than expected. The ambitious open-world action RPG has been on many players’ wishlists since its stunning gameplay showcases, but it seems the team needs extra time to bring their vision to life.

While fans were eagerly counting down the days for a 2025 release, they’ll now have to wait a little longer. The game has been officially pushed back to Q1 2026, giving the developers several more months to polish the experience and ensure it meets expectations.

Crimson Desert
The Ambitious AAA Project That Was Set To Release In Late 2025 Has Been Delayed.

Why it matters: With 2026 already lined up with a bunch of good games, the competition will be pretty tough.

As revealed by Pearl Abyss in its recent earnings call, Crimson Desert has been delayed to Q1 2026.

The launch of Crimson Desert, our first large-scale AAA console game, has been unavoidably delayed by one quarter, from the previously announced schedule.

The developer explains why the development is taking longer than the expected time and whether it will still appear at Gamescom.

Given the reasons, the delay seemed inevitable, but at least the game is still appearing at Gamescom. The developer has confirmed that its first large-scale AAA game will be playable at the upcoming events (Gamescom and PAX West) for the very first time, and it also aims to offer the same demo at the Tokyo Games Show in September.

While the game has been delayed, fans can look forward to several new gameplay showcases in the coming months, giving them a better idea of what to expect. It’s worth noting that an exact release date has yet to be confirmed and won’t be announced at Gamescom.

Pearl Abyss has stated that the final date will be revealed soon, so fans will need to remain patient a bit longer.

Over 605K Players Have Already Pre-Ordered Battlefield 6 on Steam, 2 Months Ahead of Launch

Story Highlight
  • Following the multiplayer reveal and beta, Battlefield 6 became the best-selling game on Steam for over 10 days.
  • The beta in particular was so good that over 605,000 players have already pre-ordered the game on Steam.
  • This number is expected to reach 1 million shortly, and on launch, it may break some records.

Battlefield 6 has taken fans by surprise, not just with its explosive multiplayer reveal trailer, but with its impressive beta as well. The beta was so well-received that it surpassed the all-time peak player count of Black Ops 6, hitting over 500,000 players.

With the beta’s high quality winning over players, many have already locked in their purchase. According to an analytics firm, Battlefield 6 has racked up over 605,000 pre-orders on Steam, and with two months still to go before release, that number is likely to climb even higher.

Why it matters: The beta impressed so many players that a large number went ahead and pre-ordered the game, confident that the developers would take major feedback into account to make Battlefield 6 even better, perhaps even removing the much-disliked Secure Boot feature.

Alinea Analytics Report
Alinea Analytics reports that Battlefield 6 has been pre-ordered by over 605,000 players.

According to Alinea Analytics, over 605K players have already pre-ordered Battlefield 6 despite there being two months left before it is released. These many pre-orders amount to around $35 million in revenue from Steam alone. It won’t be surprising if the pre-orders have already surpassed 1 million, considering all platforms.

The game also boasts 2.7 million wishlists, highlighting just how many players are eagerly awaiting its release. With two months still to go, pre-orders alone could climb significantly higher.

Former Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra has even claimed that Battlefield 6 will “boot stomp” Call of Duty this year, and the data might back him up. According to the analytics firm, 62% of Battlefield 6 wishlisters have also played Call of Duty.

While Activision reportedly doesn’t see Battlefield 6 as a serious threat, believing Call of Duty is “too big to die,” the numbers suggest they may want to rethink that stance. BF6 is gunning for the throne, and if the competition heats up, it could be the most brutal shooter showdown in years.
