Mafia: The Old Country Reportedly Sold Nearly Six Times More on PS5 Than Xbox

Story Highlight
  • According to an analyst firm, the leading platform for Mafia: The Old Country is the PlayStation 5.
  • On the PS5, the game has sold nearly twice as many copies as it has on PC.
  • In contrast, Xbox accounts for just around 10 percent of the total sales.

Mafia: The Old Country didn’t launch to a massive player base on Steam and didn’t seem to perform particularly well. While the game itself is pretty solid, it has received widespread criticism due to poor performance.

Setting that aside, the game received a score of 74 on Metacritic, which, while not ideal, isn’t bad either. However, it’s still enough to make some players hesitant about purchasing it.

Interestingly, PC doesn’t appear to be the leading platform for this game. According to an analyst firm, the PS5 has sold almost twice as many copies as the PC version, making it the dominant platform.

Why this matters: PC boasts a massive gaming community, so it’s impressive to see the PS5 outperforming it in this case.

PlayStation Is The Leading Platform For Mafia The Old Country
PlayStation Is The Leading Platform For Mafia: The Old Country.

According to Aliena Analytics, an analyst firm that uses proprietary data to estimate video game statistics, Mafia: The Old Country has sold around 643,000 copies on the PS5, 337,000 copies on Steam, and 117,000 on Xbox.

This means the PlayStation 5 alone accounts for over 50 percent of total sales, making it the game’s biggest platform by a significant margin. According to the firm, the overall sales sit at around 1.2 million, which isn’t particularly high for a Mafia title.

Nonetheless, it’s surprising to see the PS5 leading by such a large margin compared to other platforms. This is particularly surprising, especially since the same firm recently revealed that PC was the leading platform for Helldivers 2, outselling the PS5 version by over 7 million copies.

That said, it’s important to keep in mind that this data doesn’t come directly from the game’s developer or publisher. These figures are based on third-party estimates, which, while often insightful, aren’t always completely accurate.

As such, we recommend taking these numbers with a grain of salt until official data is released.

A New Batman Arkham Sequel Is Underway, Confirms VA

Story Highlight
  • Commissioner Gordon VA confirms that a new Batman Arkham game is in development.
  • Overall, three known Batman solo projects are under development.
  • At best, expect the mentioned Arkham game to release sometime around 2028.

After years of waiting, a new Batman Arkham game is finally underway. As per Commissioner Gordon’s Voice Actor, they’re about to start the development of a new sequel soon enough.

Why it matters: Batman is arguably one of the most iconic characters ever. It’s been a while since the Dark Knight had the lead in a video game, but fans will be stoked to hear that a new solo video game is underway.

Assassin’s Creed Veteran Joins Rocksteady As The New Game Director

In an interview with Culture Combine, Mark Rolston spoke about his work in Arkham Shadow and how he does motion capture, voiceover, and everything. He added that they’re beginning work on a new entry soon.

We’re about to start another one of those.

Despite being a VR-only title, Arkham Shadow was a solid Batman title. Despite being handled by a different studio, every bit of Arkham DNA was present in the game.

Arkham Shadow was also a prequel to the Arkham trilogy and followed a much younger Batman, exploring his rogues’ gallery to the fullest. Despite being a Meta Quest 3 and 3S exclusive, the game sold really well, enough to get a sequel greenlit just within a year of its release.

Arkham Shadow’s sequel is speculated to follow a younger Batman. Interestingly, Commissioner Gordon’s VA Mark Rolston previously played Deathstroke in the earlier Arkham games.

These are exciting times to be a Dark Knight fan, surely. That said, Arkham Shadow will start development soon, and as such, expect a 3-4 year development cycle with a release date of 2028 at the earliest.

Marvel’s Wolverine Will Reportedly Appear At The Next State of Play

Story Highlight
  • A reliable source has confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine will be at the next State of Play.
  • PlayStation’s next major showcase is rumored to be happening at the end of September.
  • A new mainline God of War game is also in development alongside a Metroidvania game.

Marvel’s Wolverine was first announced back in 2021 with a teaser. Since then, it has been expected at almost every major PlayStation showcase, but it has always been a no-show, and that might be about to change very soon.

According to a new report, Marvel’s Wolverine will appear at the next PlayStation State of Play. While there is no confirmation, various rumors point towards the showcase happening at the end of September.

Why it matters: Marvel’s Wolverine has had a very complicated behind-the-scenes development cycle. Its files got leaked during the Insomniac ransomware attack; therefore, the development was affected to a certain extent.

Marvel’s Wolverine expected to be showcased at the next State of Play

Finally, after years of waiting, anonymous sources have confirmed to Insider Gaming that we are about to get our first detailed look at Marvel’s Wolverine at the State of Play. The production on the trailer is done, and it’s ready to be showcased.

While the likelihood of it appearing at the showcase is very high, even if it doesn’t, Insomniac will most probably show it off in the next few months. This is great news for the fans who had been waiting for over 4 years.

The game’s last official look was back in 2021 at the announcement

If the trailer indeed comes out soon, we can anticipate that a launch window might be revealed as well. It was slated to release exclusively on the PS5, so it might release within the next couple of years.

Moreover, Insider has also confirmed that a mainline God of War is also in development, along with the Metroidvania game. However, that is all the information there is on it for now. All in all, PlayStation fans would be thrilled with these developments.

007 First Light Gameplay Reveal Looks Strikingly Similar to Hitman, Maybe Too Much

Story Highlight
  • The first gameplay look at 007 First Light was shown at a State of Play event dedicated to the game.
  • 007 First Light looks awfully similar to the Hitman games, both in terms of visuals and gameplay.
  • However, it doubles down on the action, and there are a lot of adrenaline-rushing sequences present in the game.

With IO Interactive taking a break from the Hitman series, they’re taking on the James Bond series. 007 First Light will feature an original story, exploring James Bond’s early days as a secret agent.

007 First Light received a dedicated State of Play today and got its first-ever gameplay look. The initial reveal seems strikingly similar to the Hitman games, merging IO Interactive’s stealth expertise with traditional James Bond action.

Why it matters: There isn’t a better studio than IO Interactive to handle the James Bond franchise. The studio adopted an engaging method with 007 First Light that feels both familiar and fresh.

The gameplay sequence opens with 007 sneaking into a party, hunting a target. The opening is a typical Hitman opening, scouting the area and exploring possibilities.

The footage cuts into the mission going south, and 007 has to chase the target with a driving sequence. Ending at an airport, Bond engages enemies in heavy gunfights.

Later on, Agent 007 finds himself jumping on a moving aircraft on the runway. That is, the journey is cut short as Bond has to jump from an airplane thousands of feet in the air without a parachute.

007 first light gameplay
007 First Light To Get Hitman-Style Sequels

The next footage shows typical espionage gameplay, and much like the Hitman games, 007 First Light will give players multiple options to approach a mission. Players have the added benefit of multiple gadgets and an arsenal of weapons.

Bond’s smartwatch makes every mission a playground for players, with countless possibilities. In a typical James Bond fashion, players can rely on his charm to bluff through enemy defenses and access areas they usually couldn’t.

Additionally, there are several dialogue options that are present in interactions. However, if things go south, Bond would have to fight his way through the enemies using takedowns, weapons, or even the environment.

Cronos: The New Dawn Can Break Even With Just 1 Million Sales Thanks to $27M Budget

Story Highlight
  • Bloober Team only spent $27.5 million to develop Cronos: The New Dawn.
  • The game only needs around a million copies to break even.
  • However, the developer is expecting the horror title to be a massive success.

Bloober Team has made a name for itself in the horror space by producing a brilliant Silent Hill 2 remake, which silenced many doubters. To challenge itself even more, the Polish video game developer decided to make a horror game inspired by Resident Evil and Alan Wake 2, a 180 from the remake.

Titled Cronos: The New Dawn, this new IP from Bloober has attracted a lot of fan interest thanks to its enticing premise and uniquely terrifying mechanics like enemies merging after dying. And, to much surprise, the game apparently costs pennies to make.

Why it matters: Developers still making AAA titles at such a cost is necessary for the industry’s survival.

Cronos The New Dawn
The game features a female protagonist.

According to Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno, the game only costs $27.5 million or 100 million PLN to develop, a very efficient production cost in this day and age. As a result of this, the break-even point of the horror title is not too high.

If Cronos: The New Dawn retails at $60, the game will only need to sell one million copies to make double its production budget. However, Bloober Team is still expecting massive sales numbers from the horror title, with Babieo saying the internal analysis does predict a massive sales return on the game.

Despite the fact that we are counting on very good sales results, the break-even threshold is not at such a high level as analysts indicate.

With early previews saying Cronos: The New Dawn is a masterstroke from Bloober Team, there are signs that the developer is right to have these expectations. Rumors also suggest a Nintendo Switch 2 version is in the works alongside the current-gen consoles, meaning the commercial performance has potential.

Cronos: The New Dawn is led by an interesting female protagonist and also introduces a new combat system, but only time will tell how these changes affect its commercial aspects.

Battlefield 6 Gets M Rating For Gore, First Time Since Hardline

Story Highlight
  • Battlefield 6 has received an M rating on ESRB for gore, violence, and strong language.
  • The title will focus heavily on realism, with destruction already being a center point.
  • Fans are thrilled about the title, and it is also one of the most wishlisted games on Steam.

Battlefield 6 is shaping up to be a massive hit this year and is even expected to leave Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 in the dust. Not only did the beta do well, but EA has also focused on optimization to reach as many players as possible.

Now, according to a new update, Battlefield 6 gets rated M for gore, intense violence, and strong language. This is the first time a Battlefield game has gotten this rating for gore and excessive violence since 2015’s Battlefield Hardline.

Why it matters: The beta showed the game’s heavy focus on realism with huge destruction. The M rating for gore and violence proves that the game will be more realistic than ever, leading to great immersion.

Battlefield 6 has gotten an M rating on ESRB for gore.

While the ESRB full page isn’t yet available, we can already check that the Xbox and PlayStation storefronts have updated the games to have an M rating on ESRB. It features gore, intense violence, and strong language.

Fans are thrilled to find this out, as it means EA hasn’t held anything back. This is also the third Battlefield game to feature a mature rating for gore, with others being Battlefield 4 and Hardline, both of which were quite well-received.

battlefield 6
This will be the first title in 10 years to feature an M rating for gore.

While Battlefield 1 did have an M rating too, it didn’t feature gore. This highlights that Battlefield 6 has a heavy focus on dismemberment and other gory elements that make the gameplay more realistic.

Cronos: The New Dawn Review Roundup – Solid First Release After SH2 Remake

Story Highlight
  • Reviews for Cronos: The New Dawn are in, and the overall reception has been positive.
  • The game holds an average score of 80 on Metacritic, a solid achievement for Bloober Team’s first original IP.
  • Critics and fans alike are drawing comparisons to Dead Space, Resident Evil 4, and Silent Hill 2, thanks to its atmospheric horror and intense gameplay.

Cronos: The New Dawn has been met with a wave of positive reception since its initial reveal, largely thanks to Bloober Team’s impressive work on the Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Expectations for Bloober Team were initially quite low leading up to the Silent Hill 2 Remake, but that perception shifted dramatically after its successful launch. Now, all eyes are on the studio’s next project, Cronos: The New Dawn, which is set to release soon, and early reviews are already in.

The game has earned a score of 79 on Metacritic, which is respectable,  especially for a brand-new IP.

Why it matters: While some fans may have hoped for a higher rating, a 79 is far from disappointing and speaks to the potential of this new franchise.

Cronos The New Dawn Review Score
Cronos: The New Dawn Review Score | Source: Metacritic

The following are some of the review scores of the upcoming title by Bloober Team:

  • Gamereactor UK – 9/10
  • DualShockers – 9/10
  • Checkpoint Gaming – 8.5/10
  • Game Informer – 7.8/10
  • GamesRadar+ – 7/10
  • IGN – 7/10
  • TechRadar Gaming – 6/10

This game isn’t quite like Silent Hill 2 Remake, which was based on an already-established classic. While Bloober Team did an outstanding job bringing that title back to life, it wasn’t their original creation.

However, Cronos: The New Dawn is a different story. It’s a completely original concept developed from the ground up by Bloober Team, and judging by the reception so far, it seems to have paid off.

Some reviews have compared it to the likes of Dead Space, Resident Evil 4, and Silent Hill 2. So, if you love the aforementioned titles, you are likely to have a good time with this game

While the game has received plenty of praise, it’s by no means perfect. Some reviewers have pointed out that the combat feels a bit clunky, exploration can be somewhat predictable, and shooting zombie mutants tends to get repetitive over time.

That said, Bloober Team has once again delivered a strong experience. Cronos: The New Dawn launches on September 5 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Nintendo Switch 2. However, players who purchased the Deluxe Edition will gain early access and can start playing on September 3.

What are your thoughts on Cronos: The New Dawn receiving a 78 on Metacritic? Was it in line with your expectations? Let us know in the comments below, or join the discussion on the official Tech4Gamers forums.

AMD PC GPU Shares Drop To A Concerning 6% As Nvidia Now Controls 94% Of Market

Story Highlight
  • AMD PC GPU shares have now dropped to a concerning 6%, giving Nvidia 94% of control over the market.
  • AMD saw a 2% drop in shares from Q1 to Q2, showing that it is barely manufacturing any RDNA 4 GPUs.
  • The company is performing much better in the CPU sector against Intel.

Nvidia has always had a strong monopoly on the GPU market, and the only company that has attempted to make a dent in its shares is undoubtedly AMD. However, new data reveals some pretty concerning news regarding AMD’s little sway in the market.

The analyst JPR reveals that AMD PC GPU shares have taken a drastic hit, giving Nvidia 94% of control over the market. Meanwhile, Intel’s market share continues to stay at 0%.

Why it matters: The data reveal that AMD really needs to step up its game to save the remaining GPU market shares from falling into oblivion against Nvidia.

AMD PC GPU market shares have fallen by 2% in the second quarter | Source: JPR.

As revealed in the data by JPR, AMD had 8% of the PC GPU market share during the first quarter, which has now dropped further to 6% in the second quarter. These developments show that AMD’s RDNA 4 GPUs are barely being manufactured.

One explanation for falling shares is that Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT were the only RDNA 4 GPUs available during the entire second quarter, and they aren’t exactly the mainstream choice due to their respective high $549 and $599 MSRPs.

AMD’s overall AIB market share decreased by -2.1% from last quarter, Intel’s market share stayed at 0.0%, and Nvidia’s market share increased by 2.1%.

-Analyst JPR.

The company’s better-selling past-gen cards have also become less popular in anticipation of RDNA 4 GPUs; all these factors have added up to Nvidia gaining 94% of the entire shares. We’ll likely find out how well AMD’s RDNA 4 lineup holds up during the third quarter.

AMD Ryzen 9 9990X3D
AMD is performing much better in the CPU sector against Intel.

Regarding CPUs, data shows that Intel’s client CPU market share in PCs and laptops fell to 67% in the last quarter from 76% in Q4 2024, a 10% drop in only a year. Meanwhile, AMD’s market share rose to 33% in the last quarter, up from 24% in Q2 2024.

Do you think AMD stands a chance at challenging Nvidia in the GPU sector amid losing market shares, or is that goal too much of a pipe dream at this point? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Stellar Blade 2 Now Officially In Development, Shift Up To Expand IP In Various Ways

Story Highlight
  • Shift Up has now confirmed that Stellar Blade 2 is officially in development.
  • The game will have similar genre elements but also feature an expanded world and enhanced gameplay.
  • The studio wants to expand the Stellar Blade franchise in various ways, suggesting multiple planned projects.

Stellar Blade has been one of the most successful action RPG entries in recent years, seeing massive sales numbers and positive ratings across all platforms. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before Shift Up would want a mainline sequel with even grander goals.

Shift Up has now also officially confirmed Stellar Blade 2 to be in development. Additionally, the studio plans to grow the franchise beyond just the announced sequel.

Why it matters: It’s clear that Shift Up and Sony have big plans for the Stellar Blade franchise after the first game exceeded everyone’s expectations. The sequel is expected to build on the original’s story with existing characters like Eve.

Stellar Blade PC Port
Stellar Blade has performed well on all platforms since launch.

As found in Shift Up’s latest earnings report, Stellar Blade 2 is now being developed with an expanded world and enhanced gameplay in mind. The game will have the same action-packed elements as the original, but further expand them to stand out from the original.

We are actively pursuing the franchise development of the ‘Stellar Blade’ IP and are currently developing a sequel to ‘Stellar Blade’.

-Shift Up.

Additionally, the report mentions that Shift Up aims to develop various projects related to the Stellar Blade franchise, which could lead to TV adaptations, spin-offs, and other related content.

Stellar Blade has helped Shift Up earn record revenue multiple times since launch. It has generated $43.2 million alone, paving a golden road for the sequel in the process.

Fans are also highly excited for the Stellar Blade sequel.

Stellar Blade 2 is also expected to be developed using Unreal Engine 5. However, fans worry that the shift from UE4 could introduce many optimization challenges for the studio.

Shift Up’s new eastern fantasy franchise, Project Spirits, will also likely be developed alongside Stellar Blade 2. So, the game is likely years away from launch, since it is just entering development.

Do you think Shift Up will play it safe with the Stellar Blade 2 sequel, or will it explore elements that the original didn’t? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Resident Evil Requiem Releasing on PS4 and Switch 2, It’s Claimed

Story Highlight
  • Insider states that Capcom has plans to release Resident Evil Requiem on the last-gen PS4 and Switch 2 consoles.
  • A last-gen Xbox release wasn’t mentioned.
  • These ports are expected to arrive sometime after the initial release.

Resident Evil Requiem is Capcom’s biggest release in the franchise in almost a decade. The most awaited entry to date, the developers are poised to try something new with the title to freshen up the horror formula and attract an entirely new fanbase.

As such, Capcom wants as many players as possible to play the game. Now, an insider hints that Resident Evil Requiem will be launching on the last-gen PS4 and the new Switch 2 handheld console.

Why it matters: The PS4 is severely outdated compared to today’s standards. A last-gen release would have limited Resident Evil Requiem’s true capabilities visually.

Resident Evil Requiem Will Reportedly Be Released On A Wide Range Of Consoles || Source: Social Media

Dusk Golem made this claim on social media, stating that several sources have corroborated that Resident Evil Requiem should be arriving on the PS4 and Switch 2. As per the insider, this discussion has been going on for quite some time behind the scenes, but publicly, he was the first one to make this claim.

Moreover, he mentions that these ports would be released sometime after the initial launch. While a Switch 2 release definitely isn’t out of the question, a PS4 port seems absurd.

Notably, Dusk Golem didn’t mention a last-gen Xbox release.

A Third-Person PoV Was Chosen To Make The Game Less Scary

Resident Evil Requiem is by far one of the most visually appealing games of 2026. The PS4 hardware is more than a decade old and isn’t able to handle it at all. Regardless of whether Capcom still goes ahead with it, the release would have to be severely downgraded.

However, the insider seems pretty confident about these leaks, so we’ll have to wait and see.

In other news, Resident Evil 9 is set to be the scariest release in the franchise and will feature a brand-new protagonist. Early previews have been positive, indicating that Capcom is likely to have another successful title on its hands.

Do you think that Resident Evil Requiem is coming to PS4 and Switch 2? Let us know your thoughts on this story in the comments below, or at the official Tech4Gamers Forums.

Upcoming PS5 Slim Revision Features Less Storage Than Current Model

Story Highlight
  • New reports reveal Sony is set to launch the PS5 Slim CFI-2116 model later this month.
  • The PS5 Digital Edition will now ship with 825GB of storage compared to the 1TB of storage in current models.
  • This change reverts the PS5 to the same amount of memory it originally launched with in 2020.

The PS5 recently underwent a price hike to combat the US tariffs. The console is now more expensive to purchase than the launch model, with the Digital model seeing two price hikes since its release.

Although no additional price increases have been announced by Sony, a reliable insider reports that the PS5 is set to receive a new revision soon. According to his sources, this revision will feature less storage than the current PS5 models.

Why it matters: The vanilla PS5 launched with less than 1TB of storage. This was later upgraded once the PS5 Slim arrived, but it seems Sony is making drastic changes again.

PlayStation 5 Pro
The PS5 Pro Remains Unaffected By This Change

According to Bilbill-kun, the PS5 Slim Chassis E arrives very soon. This particular model of the console ships with just 825GB of storage, mirroring the memory available to users in the PS5 at release.

The insider notes that all consoles with the CFI-2116 reference will carry the aforementioned 825GB of storage. Interestingly, this change seems to apply to PS5 Slim Digital Editions only.

Consoles that ship with a disc drive will retain the 1TB of storage, suggesting that they will not carry the CFI-2116 reference number. Anyhow, the CFI-2116 model is set to launch in Europe on September 13.

No information is currently available about the global launch, but an official announcement from PlayStation should follow shortly. Although nothing has been said on the matter, it seems this move is part of Sony’s cost-cutting measures with the PS5.

The gaming giant is doing its best to combat changing economic conditions and recent tariffs, so it seems to be squeezing every bit of profit possible. Shipping the digital model with a smaller SSD in particular could drive further storage sales for Sony, potentially offsetting the costs to produce the hardware in the current economy.

Sony PlayStation 5 PS5 Slim
The PS5 Has Become Quite A Bit More Expensive Since Release

For the unaware, the original PS5 shipped with 825GB of storage but offered just around 667GB of usable memory. Therefore, the new PS5 Slim Digital Edition should come with a similar amount of free memory.

Do you think this is a notable downgrade for the PS5? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.
