Cronos: The New Dawn Can Break Even With Just 1 Million Sales Thanks to $27M Budget

A Modest Budget Gives The Game A Surprisingly Low Break-even Point!

Story Highlight
  • Bloober Team only spent $27.5 million to develop Cronos: The New Dawn.
  • The game only needs around a million copies to break even.
  • However, the developer is expecting the horror title to be a massive success.

Bloober Team has made a name for itself in the horror space by producing a brilliant Silent Hill 2 remake, which silenced many doubters. To challenge itself even more, the Polish video game developer decided to make a horror game inspired by Resident Evil and Alan Wake 2, a 180 from the remake.

Titled Cronos: The New Dawn, this new IP from Bloober has attracted a lot of fan interest thanks to its enticing premise and uniquely terrifying mechanics like enemies merging after dying. And, to much surprise, the game apparently costs pennies to make.

Why it matters: Developers still making AAA titles at such a cost is necessary for the industry’s survival.

Cronos The New Dawn
The game features a female protagonist.

According to Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno, the game only costs $27.5 million or 100 million PLN to develop, a very efficient production cost in this day and age. As a result of this, the break-even point of the horror title is not too high.

If Cronos: The New Dawn retails at $60, the game will only need to sell one million copies to make double its production budget. However, Bloober Team is still expecting massive sales numbers from the horror title, with Babieo saying the internal analysis does predict a massive sales return on the game.

Despite the fact that we are counting on very good sales results, the break-even threshold is not at such a high level as analysts indicate.

With early previews saying Cronos: The New Dawn is a masterstroke from Bloober Team, there are signs that the developer is right to have these expectations. Rumors also suggest a Nintendo Switch 2 version is in the works alongside the current-gen consoles, meaning the commercial performance has potential.

I have high hopes for Cronos: The New Dawn now.

Cronos: The New Dawn is led by an interesting female protagonist and also introduces a new combat system, but only time will tell how these changes affect its commercial aspects.
