Over Half of Steam’s Top 20 Most-Played Games Are Single-Player Titles

Story Highlight
  • Over 10 games among the top 20 most played titles on Steam are surprisingly single-player titles.
  • This shows that many players gravitate towards single-player games because they offer compelling stories and unparalleled gameplay.
  • Games like Black Myth: Wukong, Cyberpunk 2077, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Elden Ring are among the popular single-player titles.

It is often believed that multiplayer games are more successful because people enjoy playing with their friends. While it’s true that playing with friends can make a game more enjoyable, that doesn’t necessarily mean multiplayer titles are always the most popular.

In fact, many gamers prefer single-player experiences because they often offer richer gameplay and deeper storytelling. That’s why, as of now, more than ten of the top 20 most-played games on Steam are single-player titles.

Why it matters: Multiplayer games are usually assumed to dominate the charts, but the reality shows a strong preference for single-player games among Steam users.

As you can see in the image above, there are 11 single-player games among the top 20 most-played games of all time on Steam.

This highlights just how many players enjoy single-player experiences. Of course, there are plenty of gamers who prefer titles like CS2 where they can play with friends, but many others gravitate toward solo experiences, as supported by numerous polls over the years.

Some readers might be curious about how we defined those 11 games as single-player. Eight of them are clearly single-player without any debate. In addition, we included Valheim, Path of Exile 2, and Aeternum.

While these three offer multiplayer or co-op features, they are primarily played solo by a large portion of their communities. The core gameplay of each supports and often encourages solo progression, even if online features are present.

Adding Banana to the list would actually bring the total to 12, but considering it a proper game would be a stretch, so we’re not including it. Banana is more of an experimental project than a full-fledged game, which makes its inclusion in a list of top-played titles somewhat misleading.

Can Dune: Awakening Outshine Starfield in the Sci-Fi Space

Story Highlight
  • Starfield was released in 2023 as one of the biggest releases in gaming history.
  • It features a massive scope, which can be hard to beat, but games like Dune: Awakening might offer a better experience within a more focused setting.
  • Dune: Awakening offers a living, challenging world compared to Starfield’s vast but often empty universe.

The sci-fi genre is booming, thanks to recent successful releases like Starfield, the Dead Space remake, and Stellar Blade. Among these, Starfield stands out as the most notable, with hype levels arguably through the roof.

Together with No Man’s Sky, Starfield has helped establish a solid foundation for space-themed games, particularly those centered around spaceships and exploration. This raises an interesting question: where does the upcoming sci-fi MMO Dune: Awakening fit in? Can it even hope to outshine Starfield? I think it can.

Why it matters: Starfield is one of the biggest releases so far, but it’s great to see a smaller-scale game that can compete with it, or maybe even offer a better experience.

Endless Vs Limited World

Starfield DLC Featured
Many Fans Consider Starfield To Be An Overrated Game

Starfield lets you explore hundreds of planets, but most of them feel kind of empty. Dune: Awakening, on the other hand, takes place on just one planet, Arrakis, but it already feels more alive. I think it’s fair to say the world breathes, it burns, and it fights back.

Every resource you find could mean the difference between life and death, making the whole experience more immersive and thrilling, something that has me excited. This approach should help Dune Awakening stand out and make it a survival game where everything is scarce and every decision counts.

Many players are eyeing a Dune: Awakening key to explore a new world and experience survival where scarcity shapes every choice.

Resource Management

Dune Awakening Featured
Dune Awakening’s World Feels Truly Alive

Starfield has resources everywhere, and you use them to upgrade your ship or build better gear. The system is satisfying, but it hardly feels urgent or dangerous. Dune: Awakening changes things since everything revolves around Spice. You need it to survive, and others will fight you for it.

This means that Spice is something beyond a traditional currency, and people even kill for it. Each battle over Spice means risking your life, so resource gathering is no longer just another routine task.

It’s a constant risk, and that makes every decision feel heavier and more interesting, at least that is what I think. That kind of pressure could be what sets Dune apart.

Difference In Experience

Starfield
Starfield Is Purely A Single-Player Game

Another big difference is how players interact. Starfield is a single-player game through and through since there’s no co-op, multiplayer, or shared world in the experience.

Dune: Awakening, on the other hand, is an MMO at its core. In this game, you are not alone, as you will have to deal with other players all the time. The politics between players could shape the game just as much as the sandstorms.

That social layer might be Dune’s strongest card. In a world where survival is already hard, trust becomes just as valuable as Spice. You could team up with others to hold a spice field, only to get stabbed in the back the moment you look away. That kind of player-driven drama is something Starfield just can’t offer.

The Power of Focus

Starfield
Starfield Feels Very Empty At Times

One of Starfield’s biggest criticisms is its scale. With thousands of planets to explore, it’s no secret that many end up feeling empty and repetitive. Dune: Awakening takes a different approach and focuses on just one, very dangerous world.

This focus might be what helps Dune stand out. Instead of trying to do everything at once, the game is attempting to nail a singular aspect where every decision carries weight. That’s exactly the kind of experience I, as a survival MMO fan, am looking for.

At the end of the day, whether Dune: Awakening outshines Starfield really depends on what you’re looking for. If you want sprawling galaxies and endless exploration, Starfield is the option to go for. However, if you want intensity and a world where survival feels earned, Dune might just take the throne.

The hype is definitely building, and getting your hands on a Dune: Awakening key might be the best way to see for yourself whether the game delivers the ultimate sci-fi experience. Fortunately, digital marketplaces like Eneba make stepping into the sands of Arrakis incredibly easy.

Nvidia Patents To Improve GPU Buffer Memory Management For Better Gaming Performance

Story Highlight
  • A new Nvidia patent aims to improve GPU buffer management for higher gaming and rendering performance.
  • Multiple threads efficiently rearrange data segments within the buffer without needing extra memory or causing errors.
  • The software-based logarithmic solution avoids the need for a second buffer and supports parallel processing.

Whether it’s a software-based solution or hardware improvements, Nvidia is always looking for unique ways to push its GPUs to new extremes. Now, it has published a new patent that wholly upgrades how GPU memory functions.

We have discovered a new Nvidia patent that aims to enhance GPU buffer management by reducing the required space and errors associated with data movement. The buffer is divided into fixed-sized chunks with a boolean flag to check its status.

Then, worker threads race to grab data chunks, mark them as ‘picked up’ with atomic operations, and move them to a new spot after ensuring there are no overwrites.

The system also groups reused chunks together to create a larger block of empty space for new data that may need contiguous memory.

Systems and methods may implement workers to read a data segment into individual registries and then write the data segments to a different location within the memory buffer without the use of a second memory buffer. As a result, embodiments allow for a single read/write operation to move different data segments.

Why it matters: Nvidia patenting a smarter way to move data around inside a GPU’s memory could massively improve the performance of its future gaming GPU lineup.

The flow diagrams illustrate a process for transferring data chunks between memory segments.

The patent called ‘IN-PLACE DATA MANAGEMENT WITHIN MEMORY BUFFERS’ claims that the entire described process happens in a single memory buffer, removing the need to rely on a second buffer. Also, it occurs in parallel, making the GPU memory pretty efficient.

Nvidia says moving reused data within the same buffer can cause errors when the source and destination overlap. So, the new system eliminates the need for traditional methods that risk overwriting data.

when rendering or adding information to the destination location, certain sub-buffers may be occupied, causing overlap between the source and destination locations, leading to read-after-write errors.

The schematic figure shows workers selecting a data segment in a memory buffer to move data segments from a source to a destination location.

If realized, future Nvidia GPUs would come with more efficient memory, leading to improvements in gaming and complex rendering tasks.

Besides Nvidia, AMD has also published numerous unique patents in the past, including one about new blower fan designs for gaming laptops to address heating problems. There’s another patent about a smart cache cleaning system that can significantly improve processor performance.

Do you think the new Nvidia patent changing the way GPU buffer memory is handled will result in massive performance gains? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Borderlands 4: Gearbox Software Denies Take-Two Spyware Allegations

Story Highlight
  • Players have accused Borderlands 4 of being spyware because of its user agreement, blaming the parent company, Take-Two.
  • The developer, Gearbox, denied the spyware claims and stated the privacy policy is standard across all Take-Two products.
  • Gearbox said the policy only outlines what data could be collected for services like anti-cheat, but did not clarify what specific data is actually gathered.

The long-awaited Borderlands 4 was released just a few days ago, marking the fourth main entry in the franchise that began more than 15 years ago and stunned everyone. Although better than Borderlands 3 and well-reviewed, Borderlands 4 faces criticism over alleged player-spying software.

Why it matters: Gearbox has now disputed the charges made regarding Borderlands 4 and stated that Take-Two does not utilise spyware in this or any other game.

Borderlands 4 gameplay
Borderlands 4 launched to over 200K players on Steam.

The fourth title in the Borderlands series appears to be surprisingly good. The reviews of the game indicate that it is considered better than Borderlands 3, but it still falls short of Borderlands 2 in terms of story and character development.

On the other hand, despite having an 84/100 on Metacritic by the media, users on Steam have given 61% positive reviews.

Users have made claims against Borderlands 4, arguing that after signing the EULA, the game essentially functions as spyware. They blame Take-Two for this decision, as it is the parent company that ultimately decided to add it.

Now, Gearbox Software has come out to defend Take-Two, indicating that none of its games or products use spyware. According to Gearbox, this privacy policy that we sign applies to all games, studios of the brand, and services, both on consoles and PC, as well as mobile apps and web.

The game is almost unplayable on the Steam Deck.

Gearbox Software continues to defend Take-Two’s EULA and explains what is going on here. This privacy policy, which you must agree to, defines the types of data that may be collected, but it does not imply that everything that occurs in Take-Two’s games and services is recorded.

The explanation lacks clarity and does not address the issue of data collection, which remains unknown. Gearbox states that this data is required to deliver services to players, such as protecting their gaming experience with an anti-cheat system.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Has Now Surpassed 4.4 Million Copies Sold

Story Highlight
  • One of the developers behind Clair Obscur has revealed that the game has unofficially sold over 4.4 million copies.
  • By the end of 2025, it is expected to have sold 5 million copies overall.
  • Following such a gigantic success, Clair Obscur has already been made a franchise with a sequel and a movie adaptation underway.

2025 has been a great year for indie and smaller studios, and one of the most talked-about games for this year has been Clair Obscur Expedition 33. Created by former Ubisoft employees, Clair Obscur has become a passion project that has truly found its way with fans.

That said, the game has been highly successful for Sandfall Interactive, painting a bright picture for the studio’s future. Now, one of the developers behind the project revealed that Clair Obscur has now sold over 4.4 million copies.

Why it matters: Video game sales have plummeted in recent times due to economic turmoil and inflation. Games like Clair Obscur still perform well due to their lower price point, lower budget, and a quality that rivals AAA releases.

French YouTuber Clips du Lundi recently interviewed a couple of developers from Sandfall Interactive. The host asked them the pressing question regarding the sales of Clair Obscur Expedition 33, to which they responded:

officially 3.3 but 4.4 million

Unironically, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 sold 3 million copies within 33 days of its release. While sales have slowed down since, with only 1.4 million copies sold in the next 109 days, expect them to pick up the pace later this year, particularly during holidays when it’s on sale.

Sandfall Interactive must be waiting for the game to hit a round figure in sales before updating the numbers. By the time 2025 ends, Clair Obscur will have potentially surpassed 5 million overall sales

Considering the game’s development budget was less than $50 million, which is significantly less than the budgets of many games released even 17 years ago. For just a fraction of the price, publisher Kelper Interactive is certainly pleased with the outcome.

Within just a week of its release, Clair Obscur was already made into a franchise with a movie adaptation underway. Moreover, the game’s director has already teased a sequel within the same universe.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Still Dominating Steam’s Best Sellers List Nearly 10 Days After Launch

Story Highlight
  • Hollow Knight Silksong surprised everyone by attracting nearly 600,000 players at launch.
  • This is extremely impressive for an indie game, and such dominance is almost unheard of.
  • That said, it has been nearly 10 days since the title was released, and it is still sitting at the second position on Steam’s best sellers list, which is truly remarkable.

Hollow Knight: Silksong, after years of hype and anticipation, was recently released. The game launched with nearly 600,000 players on Steam, a remarkable achievement for an indie title.

It’s been so well-received that many fans believe the $20 price tag feels like underpaying for the experience, and some developers worry it may set an unrealistic pricing standard for the industry.

According to reports, the game sold over 5 million copies within the first three days of launch. Even more impressive, it continues to dominate Steam’s best sellers list more than a week after release.

Why it matters: It’s rare for a game, especially an indie one, to maintain such strong momentum well beyond its launch window.

Steam Best Seller List
Hollow Knight: Silksong Holds Second Spot on Steam’s Best Seller List | Source: Steam

As you can see in the image above, Hollow Knight: Silksong is currently in second place on Steam’s best sellers list, almost 10 days after launch.

It is just behind Borderlands 4, which makes sense given the game has just been released. So it is expected to stay at number one for a little while longer.

Regarding Silksong, it is still dominating mainly because of the hype, as many new players, especially Soulslike fans, were attracted to it and gave it a shot.

Hollow Knight Silksong
Silksong’s Reveal Gave Its Predecessor a 600% Boost in Player Count.

Many of these new players jumped on the hype train without experiencing the first game in the series, which led them to find Silksong quite challenging, especially in the early sections. This resulted in a wave of negative reviews.

The developer has since addressed the feedback and made the early-game difficulty more accessible for newcomers or those who were having trouble.

Nonetheless, it’s impressive for an indie game to keep dominating Steam’s best sellers list for nearly 10 days.

PS6 Hardware Leak Points to Huge Leap — 12x Ray Tracing, 3x Faster Rasterization Than PS5

Story Highlight
  • Powered by AMD’s Orion SoC with RDNA 5 GPU, Zen 6 CPU, and up to 40GB GDDR7, delivering 34–40 TFLOPs.
  • Expected to achieve true 4K/60 FPS in Quality Mode and 4K/120 FPS in Performance Mode for most games.
  • Offers up to 12x faster Ray Tracing than PS5, though Xbox Magnus may be 25% faster; launch expected in late 2027.

We’ve covered dozens of news stories about the PS6 and new handheld device from PlayStation, and just like with the PS5 Pro, the closer the official launch draws, the closer the rumors will become to reality. With the PS5 Pro, they got things right on the mark, including the launch price and performance that approximates what it would have in reality, in addition to Sony’s rescaling called PSSR.

PS6 AMD Orion SoC Full Specs Leak: Ray Tracing Comparable To RTX 5090

We’ve been talking about how the PlayStation 6 console would perform for a while now. In one of the last news reports we made on the subject, Sony’s future console would be launched with top performance in terms of Ray Tracing and Path Tracing, specifically matching the best we have in hardware now.

If we consider that RDNA 5 is expected to be about 2 to 2.5 times more powerful than RDNA 4, then the graphics card that comes closest to the PlayStation 6’s performance would be the RTX 5090 in Ray Tracing.

In the specifications list of the AMD Orion SoC, we see that it will have an RDNA 5 GPU with 52 CUs (2 disabled), which will be at the level of the best graphics card today. Its CPU will be one with 7 cores (1 disabled) using the Zen 6c architecture and 2 additional Zen 6 LP cores, in charge of the operating system.

The Orion SoC is completed with up to 40GB of GDDR7 memory. Sony is considering 30GB or 40GB options, depending on memory prices in 2027, for higher bandwidth, with a TDP of only 160W (less than the PS5) and a huge full chip size of 280mm², making use of TSMC’s 3nm.

PS6 Set To Achieve 4k/60 FPS Quality And 4k/120 FPS Performance In Most Games

PS6-AMD-Zen
PS6 AMD Zen

These specifications translate into having a graphics card with raster performance close to that of an RTX 5080. However, it is in Ray Tracing and Path Tracing where it will have the most advantage, and there it could reach the aforementioned RTX 5090.

According to Moore’s Law, with this powerful hardware, this Sony console will finally be able to play at 4K and 60 FPS in most games in quality mode, something they have been promising for so many years and could not deliver.

The source also reveals that current games should run at that quality and speed without even activating PSSR, so even if video games in a couple of years ask for more requirements, he believes that it should be viable for Sony to sell it as a true 4K console. He believes that in performance mode, it will be possible to reach 4K 120 FPS, something that even Nintendo uses to promote its current Switch 2 console.

PS6 Orion GPU Offers 12x Faster Ray Tracing, Xbox Magnus Still 25% Ahead

PlayStation Handheld Next Generation
Next-Gen PlayStation Handheld Concept Art

Continuing with the specifications, the GPU will run at a frequency of 2.6 to 3 GHz and will have 10 MB of L2 cache, which will mean a power of between 34 to 40 TFLOPs. This, in turn, will have 3 Shader Engines with 9 Workgroups each, and the raster performance will experience an improvement of 2.5 to 3x over the PS5 and Ray Tracing between 6 to 12x.

Supposedly, Sony will use PSSR 2, which will use a technology similar to AMD’s FSR 4, so if we add this, here we would have an improvement of between 4 to 8x in rasterization.

The PS6 will be backwards compatible with PS5 and PS4 games and will be released in mid-2027, although fall 2027 is more likely. Finally, MLID mentions that the Xbox Mag n us could be up to 25% faster than the PS6, although Microsoft’s approach will be different as it wants a console as powerful as a PC.

As for its price, sources estimate that the PS6 will cost around $585 to manufacture and Sony will put it on sale at $549, if it wants to be aggressive and look for sales, or up to $799 if it wants to make a profit.

Battlefield 6 Dev Teases Game Will Introduce Goofy Skins Eventually

Story Highlight
  • Dice has promised to avoid cartoony skins for Battlefield 6.
  • However, the creative director’s latest statement implies that this commitment may not last forever.
  • The game could see a shift in tone and themes toward the latter part of its lifespan.

Battlefield 6 has received widespread praise for its portrayal of authentic themes and realism at a time when most games are flooded with goofy crossover skins. Dice has also made it a point to communicate the fact that Battlefield 6 will not feature such skins.

Interestingly, however, the team might still have plans to do something different for the game eventually. A recent statement from the developers implies that realism may not always remain a core focus for Battlefield 6.

Why it matters: Battlefield 6 seems to have done everything right so far, but fans are already concerned about EA and Dice’s future plans following this statement.

Battlefield 6 Tank
BF6 Is Doing A Lot Right So Far

The Battlefield 6 Technical Director recently spoke to IGN and discussed the subject of skins yet again.

He reiterated that Dice has no intentions of following in Call of Duty’s footsteps, but also made an interesting remark toward the end of his statement. According to Christian Buhl, the gritty look is something Battlefield 6 will retain, at least for a while.

We are a gritty, grounded, realistic shooter. That’s where we intend to be, and that’s what the game is going to look like for a while.

The director’s statement implies that Battlefield 6 will not retain its current look throughout the game’s lifespan. Fans have also noted that the director seems to have left the doors open to more goofy skins making it into the first-person shooter later down the line.

Call of Duty has followed a similar strategy in the past, so this would not be totally unheard of. Past games in the series stuck to realistic skins during initial seasons, but this was quickly thrown out of the window in favor of cartoony skins during later seasons.

Battlefield 6
Fans Want To See Dice Steering Clear of Over-The-Top Skins

Perhaps Dice will adopt a similar approach, though it’s hard to imagine the team introducing skins as goofy as Call of Duty’s. Fortunately, both studios seem to be quite receptive to fan feedback, so things could change very quickly at any point.

What do you make of the director’s statement? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Black Ops 7 Adjusts Several Pre-order Skins After Widespread Criticism

Story Highlight
  • Activision and Treyarch continue to adjust Black Ops 7 following fan feedback.
  • Four skins from the game’s Vault Edition have been adjusted to match the game’s realistic themes.
  • These changes come after the studio’s commitment to toning down cartoony skins in the series.

Black Ops 7 seems to be the most interesting Call of Duty title in recent years for one particular reason. Both Treyarch and Activision are making a genuine effort to scale back on the cartoony skins of the series this year amid intense competition from Battlefield.

Previously, Activision confirmed that skins from Black Ops 6 would not carry over to the new game for this reason. The developer has now changed four of its major pre-release skins in an effort to continue addressing fan feedback.

Why it matters: The new designs highlight that Activision is already making changes to convince fans that Black Ops 7 is aiming for an authentic experience.

Over on the Call of Duty blog, Activision has discussed these changes in detail.

Among the operators, Karma, the returning female character from Black Ops 2, has seen the most significant changes. She now sports a much more realistic look, with fewer futuristic elements.

Harper still retains a futuristic look due to his over-the-top armor, but Activision has still made small adjustments to reflect the overall tone of the game. The gaming giant says that these changes are meant to highlight Black Ops 7’s immersive nature.

It should be noted that these skins are available to Black Ops 7 Vault Edition owners. Since this edition of the game costs $100, fans will be glad to know that Treyarch and Activision are taking feedback so seriously.

Black Ops 7 Is Making Big Changes Already

The blog also promises more updates on the game moving forward. One recent rumor suggests that disbanding lobbies could be going away this year, so fans should stay tuned to learn more about Black Ops 7 soon.

How Silent Hill 2 Uses Subtle Horror With Its Fog

Story Highlight
  • Silent Hill 2 has always been one of the industry’s best horror experiences, partly due to its clever use of fog.
  • The fog serves as both a mask for the game’s technical limitations and a catalyst for its most impactful psychological elements.
  • Fear of the unknown brought about by the fog puts Silent Hill 2 in a league of its own.

Silent Hill 2 was one of the best-rated games last year, and for good reason. This remake nailed the atmosphere of the original, presenting some of the most bone-chilling moments of any horror game.

The fog itself played a major role in the experience, serving as a technical limitation turned into a narrative tool. In fact, I would go as far as to say that the fog is just as important to Silent Hill 2 as any of its main characters.

Why it matters: Silent Hill 2 Remake follows the same core philosophy, which is why Bloober Team has received so much praise for this re-release.

Limits That Create Terror

visuals
The Remake’s Visuals Are On Par With The Likes of Alan Wake 2 | Image By Tech4Gamers

Originally, Silent Hill 2’s fog was a necessity. Developers used it to mask loading distances and hardware limitations. Instead of vast draw distances, the game presented a thick blanket that concealed the world just a few feet ahead.

Little did the team know that this technical trick would eventually become a psychological weapon. When gamers pick up a Silent Hill 2 key, a world of inherent mystery awaits, and I love that the fog ensures nobody ever truly becomes too comfortable.

The sounds of radio static and faint movements emanate from several directions of the fog, setting the stage for one of gaming’s most intriguing horror experiences.

The Psychological Element

Silent Hill 2 Remake FT
Silent Hill 2 Shows Why Psychological Horror Is So Appealing

Silent Hill 2’s approach to world design is so interesting since it shifts away from the claustrophobic approach of most games. The game lets players loose in vast, empty streets that somehow still feel suffocating. I would argue that this is where Konami’s true genius lies.

How Silent Hill 2 subverts expectations is genius, and the game has the fog to thank for much of its charm in this particular area. The fog itself obscures everything that lies ahead, so players naturally stay on their toes.

With nothing but a large space and obscured objects in the distance, the mind practically begins playing tricks on itself, enhancing the horrors that make up Silent Hill 2.

Monsters That Live In The Mist

Silent Hill 2 Features Various Threats That Hide Within The Fog

Silent Hill 2 features plenty of unsightly figures and monstrous creatures. The likes of Pyramid Head, faceless nurses, and the twitching mannequins are scary enough on their own, but the added anticipation from the fog makes them even creepier.

Sometimes, the fog even tricks players with empty promises and nothingness. This only amplifies the big reveals since players are never sure what will happen at any given moment.

A World That Breathes With You

The Original Game Debuted In 2001

The brilliance of Silent Hill 2’s fog ultimately lies in how it interacts with the world around it. What came about as an ingenious method to counter the technical limitations of old ended up defining the game’s core identity for decades to come.

Silent Hill 2 proves that horror can be subtle a lot of the time and still retain its essence, and those willing to revisit the game to fully appreciate its themes over two decades later can check Eneba digital marketplace for a no-hassle return to the terror-filled adventures of James Sunderland.

Resident Evil Requiem Officially Confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2 On Launch

Story Highlight
  • Resident Evil Requiem will be available on the Switch 2 console at launch.
  • Resident Evil 7 and 8 are also arriving on the handheld, available on the same date, February 27, 2026.
  • It’ll be interesting to see how well the Switch 2 can handle Resident Evil Requiem.

The hype for Resident Evil Requiem is through the roof, and Capcom has invested almost a decade into the game’s development. As such, they expect it to become one of the series’ biggest hits and attract a newer fanbase.

Now, Resident Evil Requiem has been confirmed for launch on the Switch 2 console. Furthermore, Resident Evil 7 and 8 are also arriving on the latest Nintendo handheld on February 27, 2026.

Why it matters: Resident Evil Requiem looks highly demanding from its initial reveals, with high-quality visuals. Even though the Nintendo Switch 2 is a powerful handheld, fans doubt it would be able to handle such a visually appealing game, but their doubts have been laid to rest.

In the latest Nintendo Direct, a brand-new trailer for Resident Evil Requiem was showcased, following Grace Ashcroft and how the story connects to her mother, Alyssa Ashcroft. Furthermore, the trailer showed tidbits of gameplay, including a newer look at the game’s antagonist, who is a mysterious person in a hood.

Previously, insider Dusk Golem shared this rumor of Resident Evil Requiem being released on Switch 2, but he also mentioned a release on the last-gen PS4 console. While the handheld release seemed likely, a PS4 port does sound absurd considering how outdated the console is.

resident evil 7 and 8
Resident Evil 7 And 8 Will Be Available On Switch 2 Next Year

Resident Evil Requiem’s performance is already quite stable on the PS5 Pro and PC, suggesting an optimized title with room for more improvement in the final release. However, it would certainly be interesting to see how much the game would be scaled down for the Switch 2.

So far, Leon hasn’t been showcased in any of the trailers. Still, reports suggested that the fan-favorite hero will be revealed later throughout the rollout to build more anticipation.
