Story Highlight
  • Konami has revealed that Silent Hill 2 surpassed 2.5 million copies sold.
  • The franchise has crossed 10 million units, with 3.5 million from the last 2 releases.
  • Silent Hill f also recorded strong sales by crossing 1 million sales really quickly.

After a long hiatus, Konami revived its Silent Hill franchise in 2024 with the announcement of Silent Hill 2 Remake. The move worked its way as the game went on to hit great sales and huge critical acclaim from the fans and critics.

Now, Konami has confirmed that Silent Hill 2 Remake has surpassed 2.5 million sales. For context, the original had just over 1 million reported sales, so the remake has flown past those numbers quite swiftly.

Why it matters: When Bloober Team first announced the game, fans were quite skeptical about it, even though the earlier trailers failed to hit the mark. However, things improved it and it all worked out in the end.

Gameatsu has confirmed that Silent Hill 2 has sold over 2.5 million copies to date. The entire franchise has now crossed 10 million sales. What’s more impressive is that over 3.5 million comes from the last 2 releases.

Even Silent Hill f managed to sell 1 million copies in just a few days. So, the series is going stronger than ever, and Konami is capitalizing on it. They’ve already announced that the original Silent Hill Remake is also in the works.

Intel 12-14th Gen CPUs Going Through Global Price Hikes Up To 20%

Story Highlight
  • Intel seems to have raised prices for various 12th, 13th, and 14th-generation CPUs.
  • Team Blue is targetting mid-range chips like the Core i5-12400 with these price hikes, suggesting an attempt to maximize profits.
  • This move comes after the not-so-impressive reception of Arrow Lake CPUs.

Intel’s recent position in the CPU market is no secret, with the company previously discussing its poor performance compared to AMD. In the gaming segment alone, AMD has swept up a large chunk of Intel’s customer base, and it seems Team Blue is now getting desperate.

According to numerous reports, Intel has increased prices across various 12th, 13th, and 14th generation CPUs in what appears to be an attempt to maximize profit margins.

Why it matters: Intel has been criticized by both OEMs and consumers, putting the once market leader in a difficult position.

Intel nova lake
Intel’s situation doesn’t appear to be the best ahead of Nova Lake’s release.

According to reports from Harukaze5719, Intel has raised prices for various 12th and 14th-generation SKUs by around 6-15% in Korea. For instance, the Core i3-14100F has seen a price hike of 15%, while the Core i5-14600KF now costs 13% more.

On the other hand, Japanese outlet Gaz:Log reports up to 20% price hikes on CPUs like the Core i5-14400. Over on Neogaf, similar price hikes were discussed in European countries like Germany and Spain.

The most interesting part of the price hikes is that they seem to impact Intel’s most popular CPUs. In particular, mid-range Core i5 chips have seen strategic price hikes, likely as a result of Intel’s dwindling popularity in the CPU market. On the other hand, the Core i7 and Core i9 chips have seen minimal price fluctuations.

The price hikes seem to stem directly from disappointing sales of Intel’s Arrow Lake products. When compared to AMD’s latest Zen architecture, Arrow Lake has not been the most well-received.

Moving forward, it will be interesting to see how the market reacts to Intel’s new strategy. Products like the Core i5-12400 remain popular for their affordability, but this move may force even more consumers to pivot to AMD options.

Intel is also gearing up to launch Nova Lake desktop CPUs next year, so it remains to be seen what the future holds for Team Blue.

With EA Under New Leadership, Glenn Schofield Is Already Sending Pitches For Dead Space 4

Story Highlight
  • Glenn Schofield believes that there’s an opportunity for Dead Space 4 at EA with the publisher under new leadership.
  • Previous executives rejected his pitch due to the underwhelming sales of the remake of the first game.
  • Schofield says that he can save EA around $30-40 million for the fourth entry by recycling models from the remake.

Despite 2023’s Dead Space remake being the perfect start for the revitalization of the franchise, EA didn’t capitalize on the IP’s hype. Consequently, a remake for the sequel was also canceled since the first game didn’t sell well as per the publisher’s expectations.

Just last year, Glenn Schofield, the creator behind the IP, pitched a new entry to EA, but he was rejected. Now with the publisher under new leadership, the creator believes that there’s definitely an opportunity for a fourth entry.

Why it matters: Dead Space is arguably one of the best horror games, and despite such critical success, EA wasn’t doing much with the IP. However, things are poised to change under the new leadership.

Dead Space 4
Schofield Has Teased His Retirement From The Gaming Industry

In an interview with IGN, Schofield discussed the future of the Dead Space series. He said:

I have quite a few ideas that I’m ready to go with and one of them is Dead Space 4, — The fact that EA just got bought, I think there’s an opportunity. I’m already making calls.

Last year, Schofield presented EA with a pitch to make Dead Space 4 and even offered to save up $30-40 million on the project by reusing the models from EA Motive during their development of the first game’s remake. Unfortunately, the higher-ups at EA showed no interest.

Glenn Also Expressed His Interest In An Alien Game

Just last month, the publisher was bought off by PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners in a whopping $50 billion deal. Hopefully, the new executives at the publisher will see the future and the potential that the Dead Space franchise holds.

One of the reasons behind the rejection of a fourth entry could be due to the failure of The Callisto Protocol. The game’s failure eventually led to the shutdown of The Striking Distance studio, and EA was quite disappointed with the outcome. Still, Schofield recently said that the game sold 7 million copies to date.

Detroit: Become Human Studio, Quantic Dream is Working On A Competitive Multiplayer Game

Story Highlight
  • Quantic Dream has revealed it is working on a brand new competitive multiplayer game.
  • This is the first time the studio is exploring the genre after focusing on narrative games.
  • They have admitted that the competition is high, so they have everything to prove.

Quantic Dream is the studio behind some of the most underrated titles of all time, including Detroit: Become Human, Beyond: Two Souls, and more. While its narrative-driven games have always caught the attention, it’s going on a new venture.

The studio has announced that it is now working on a new competitive multiplayer title, along with the already-in-development Star Wars: Eclipse. However, it is to be noted that the genre is already very saturated.

Why it matters: Single-player studios like Remedy have tried to jump into the multiplayer genre only to fail with games like FBC: Firebreak, so it’ll be interesting to see what Quantic Dream comes up with.

Quantic Dream reveals it is working on a new competitive multiplayer game

Quantic Dream says that fans will be surprised by this, as it’s something that has helped them push their boundaries and do something they’ve never done before. After 28 years, the studio is moving away from one project at a time.

Along with the multiplayer game, it already has Star Wars: Eclipse in development. The title will be set during the High Republic era, and will follow a similar choice-based style of gameplay as Detroit: Become Human.

Hank And Connor At Jimmy's Bar In Detroit Become Human
The studio is primarily known for developing narrative-driven single-player games

The studio does admit that there is a lot of competition in the genre, and they are very inexperienced in it. But they are confident and know they have a point to prove and are working hard to overthrow the doubts.

The title will be F2P with 3v3 matches, and some screenshots have also been revealed showcasing the colorful visuals. Developing a game like this is always a risk, but if they can do something to stand out, it could turn things in the studio’s favor.

Xbox ROG Ally X Fails To Match Switch 2’s Image Quality In AAA Games With AMD FSR

Story Highlight
  • New testing reveals that the Xbox ROG Ally X fails to match the Switch 2’s image quality in multiple AAA titles.
  • ROG Ally X uses AMD FSR, but Switch 2’s custom DLSS upscaler delivers a bigger boost to resolution.
  • The ROG Ally X has a slight performance advantage, but the quality of Nintendo ports makes up for most of it.

ROG Ally X has attracted a lot of attention, even after many controversies, selling its pre-orders within a day. The handheld has received a lot of praise from critics across multiple outlets despite costing $1000. Now, testing reveals that it holds up well against the Switch 2.

However, the Xbox’s third-party handheld fails to match the image quality of Switch 2 in multiple AAA games while using AMD FSR. Switch 2 utilizes its custom DLSS to pull higher resolutions and visual clarity across titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy.

Why it matters: Xbox ROG Ally X falls behind Switch 2 in multiple AAA titles in resolution. However, it boasts a bigger battery life and loading times because of its performance advantages.

As revealed in testing by the YouTuber ElAnalistaDeBits, Hogwarts Legacy looks significantly better on Switch 2 with DLSS. At the same time, the Xbox ROG Ally X version has rough, jagged edges using AMD FSR.

It’s a similar story for Cyberpunk 2077, where Ally X upscales it to 1080p from static 540p using FSR and frame generation. The Switch 2 upscales the game to 1080p from dynamic 720p in quality mode and 635p in performance mode, making the visuals look much better.

The difference is even bigger in Star Wars Outlaws, where the Switch 2 port once again shines with the dynamic 635p being upscaled to 1080p with higher visual clarity. The Xbox ROG Ally X version looks off and outdated in comparison, especially the far-off textures.

Star Wars Outlaws looks a lot better on Switch 2 when compared to Xbox Rog Ally X.

While the Xbox ROG Ally X has performance advantages that result in higher FPS, factors like the Switch 2 ports being optimized and the custom DLSS make both versions run with almost equal juice across most AAA titles.

Do you think the Xbox ROG Ally X running games at lower image quality than the Switch 2 is concerning? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Tencent Reportedly Wanted To Make The Last Of Us Game With Sony

Story Highlight
  • Tencent reportedly pitched a new ‘The Last of Us’ project to PlayStation.
  • The teams met, but the idea could never turn into a reality due to some reasons.
  • The Chinese company was more interested in developing a Horizon-like game.

Sony and Tencent are one of the biggest names in the gaming industry. Currently, Sony has a lawsuit filed against the Chinese giants for ripping off Horizon games; however, it seems things weren’t always hostile between the two.

According to the court documents, Tencent wanted to make a new The Last of Us game with Sony, but the plans couldn’t fall through, and the company then went on to make Light of Motiram, copied from the Horizon franchise.

Why it matters: Tencent owns some big multiplayer projects, so we could’ve had the Last of Us multiplayer from a completely different source. Unfortunately, the idea was called off before it could go any further.

Tencent reportedly wanted to make The Last of Us game with PlayStation

In a court filing today (via The Game Post), the Head of Mobile at PlayStation, Olivier Courtemanche, revealed that he and his team travelled to Shenzhen, China, to discuss a ‘The Last of Us’ project with Tencent.

He revealed that Tencent first pitched a Horizon collaboration with Sony called ‘Project Z’, but Sony formally rejected the idea. Later on, the team had another meeting for The Last of Us, but it didn’t turn out so well.

Tencent Didn’t Even Try To Hide Their Copied Work From Horizon Games With Light Of Motiram

Despite Tencent’s initial interest, when Courtemanche went to the meeting, they were shown a female protagonist with some grainy screenshots that resembled the Project Z game the company had pitched earlier.

So, before all the controversy took place, both the companies wanted to create The Last of Us together, but maybe creative and ideological differences came in the way, which never led the project from going beyond that stage.

Original Saints Row Design Director Wants To Return For A New Game With The OG Developers

Story Highlight
  • Saints Row lead developer believes the reboot was a terrible idea. He wants to return for a new game.
  • He is asking Embracer Group to let him work on the franchise with the OG team.
  • He wants to take the series back to the 70s for a prequel.

The Saints Row franchise took a massive plunge after the third installment, and the reboot only made things worse by taking the series in the wrong direction. Many fans have been asking for an authentic Saints Row experience for a long time.

The original Saints Row design director, Chris Stockman, shares the same sentiment as the fans, claiming he found the reboot to be a terrible idea. He is now asking the IP owner, Embracer Group, to contact him for a new game so he can turn the series around.

Why it matters: Chris Stockman found the reboot to be a terrible idea and now wants to save the IP by developing a new and authentic mainline title.

The latest Saints Row reboot failed to take off.

Speaking to Esports Insider, Chris Stockman claims he would have taken the reboot back to the 70s and done a prequel instead that explores the origin of the first gang. This is exactly what the director wants to do for the next Saints Row game if he gets a chance.

[Embracer Group], if you’re listening to this, contact me. Let’s go. I can bring much of the old band back together who worked on Saints Row 1. I could turn that IP around with a decent budget.

He also describes turning it into a heavily stylized VR open-world game with the prequel setting. Chris argues the game would look almost as good as the original in VR with Quest 4’s technology while reviving the series and bringing it back to its roots.

They don’t even have to fund it. I could get other outside people to fund it. I could turn the franchise around. I know I could.

Saints Row: The Third Remastered
The third Saints Row is widely regarded as the best one.

Chris wants to go the VR route to ensure the new Saints Row doesn’t try to compete with GTA but rather becomes the GTA of VR open-world titles instead.

Predator: Badlands Director ‘Desperately’ Wants An AC/Uncharted-Style Predator Game

Story Highlight
  • Predator: Badlands discusses his vision for a new game based on the IP.
  • He wants an Assassin’s Creed/Uncharted-style game following an open-world model.
  • 2005’s Concret Jungle is his favorite and the title is also regarded as the best adaptation of the IP.

Since 2020’s Predator: Hunting Grounds, the franchise has been on a hiatus, especially because the multiplayer game was a nail in the coffin for the gaming space. Since then, fans have been yearning for a new single-player experience in the Predator universe.

Now, the director behind the upcoming Predator: Badlands film also expresses in seeing a new game based on the IP. His vision is for the Predator game to follow a similar blueprint to that of the Assassin’s Creed and Uncharted games.

Why it matters: We’ve been overdue for a proper AAA single-player Predator game. The game would be an outright success considering how big the IP is in pop culture.

Talking to IGN, Dan Trachtenberg talked about his vision for a new Predator game. He said:

I am desperate for there to be a third-person action adventure, Uncharted, Assassin’s Creed, that kind of open world thing.

An Uncharted or Assassin’s Creed blueprint may not be a bad idea since a Predator single-player game would best be suited for an open-world adventure. Further speaking, he praised 2005’s Predator: Concrete Jungle, also regarded as the best video game adaptation of the IP so far.

Dead Space Creator Wants To Make An Alien Game

Even if Concret Jungle wasn’t an open-world game, it had a big map divided into level-based sections and the main character would be a disgraced Predator who would hunt humans that stole their technology to gain back his honor.

While Dan is the director behind the upcoming Predator: Badlands film, he’s always shown his passion for gaming. As such, his creative vision could benefit from a new Predator game, if one were to get made.

Microsoft Buying Steam After Gabe Newell Would Be A Death Spiral, Says Saints Row Lead Dev

Story Highlight
  • The original Saints Row design director claims that gamers should be worried about the future of Steam after Gabe Newell.
  • He believes the platform would end up in a slow death spiral under a big corporation like Microsoft.
  • A misstep like this could give Epic Games and other entities the advantage to fill the new vacuum.

Steam’s massive presence has only boomed since it became a behemoth in the PC gaming market, breaking concurrent player records multiple times over the last decade. However, that has not prevented gamers from being concerned about its future.

Now, a Saints Row lead developer says that gamers are right to be absolutely worried about Steam after Gabe Newell steps down. He argues that if any big corporation, like Microsoft, were to buy the store, then it would slowly but surely head towards downfall.

Why it matters: The Saints Row lead dev believes only a big corporation would attempt to buy Steam if it were to be sold, but the platform would have a grim future under such leadership and cause cracks to appear in its hold on the PC gaming scene.

Steam Featured Image
Steam is still rising in popularity in the PC community.

In an interview with Esports Insider, Saints Row design director Chris Stockman says only a large entity like Microsoft would try to acquire Steam if Gabe were to sell it. He also argues that Gabe might make Steam go public, which would bring a different set of challenges.

If Microsoft were to buy Steam, oh my gosh, I don’t think it would be the overnight kiss of death, but I think it would be a slow death spiral.

-Chris Stockman, Saints Row Design Director.

In the most grounded scenario, he argues that Gabe might pass on the leadership to someone he trusts. However, a single major mistake could allow Epic Games and other Steam competitors to gain dominance in the PC market.

I think that’s what it would take for another storefront like Epic to gain dominance. A big misstep like that.

Steam vs Epic Games
Epic Games has been struggling to compete with Steam, but that could change in the future.

Regardless, Steam has doubled its user base in the last 5 years, while the attempts of other companies have not seen much success so far.

Do you think Gabe Newell will sell off Steam to a corporation or make the store public in the future? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Testing Reveals Spider-Man 2 on Xbox Ally X Looks Closer to PS5 Than Steam Deck

Story Highlight
  • Xbox Ally X shows a generational leap for handheld devices in performance and visuals.
  • On Spider-Man 2, the visuals are closer to the PS5, compared to the Steam Deck.
  • It also shows a huge performance jump with 80 FPS using FSR and frame generation.

ROG Xbox Ally X just launched to some fantastic reviews. The handheld is being hailed as a new generation of portable consoles. It is still up against the likes of the Steam Deck, which, although it is older, still provides great value for money.

However, testing shows that Xbox Ally X‘s price is somewhat justified, as it provides a massively noticeable performance boost over the Steam Deck. So much so that in Spider-Man 2, the graphics look similar to PS5 than to Steam Deck.

Why it matters: The Xbox-branded handheld brings performance gains to handhelds never seen before. This is the first time we are getting an above-par gaming experience on a handheld with a decent battery as well.

ElAnalistaDeBits has dropped a detailed analysis comparing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on the handheld against PS5 and the Steam Deck. The results are genuinely amazing as the Xbox handheld looks close to the PS5’s performance mode.

The level of detail on the PS5 performance mode and Xbox Ally X with FSR (medium settings) is closer than one would think. The Steam Deck lags way behind because of the older chipset. Even the resolution difference is quite massive.

Steam Deck upscales to 800p with low/very low preset, while Ally upscales to 1080p with medium preset. However, it does lack ray tracing, which gives PS5 the edge. Overall, the PS5 does still look superior, but that is to be expected.

Xbox Ally X Comparison
Xbox Ally X visuals are closer to PS5 than the Steam Deck.

The performance gains are even more noticeable. Ally X allows frame generation, which, although fake frames, pushes the game to 80 FPS. The delay isn’t much evident, as you already get above 40 FPS with just FSR.

For context, the Steam Deck only manages 30 FPS, that too at a lower resolution and preset. So, Xbox Ally X provides a generational leap over other handhelds. We can expect the chip to be used in more devices in the future as well.
