God of War: Ragnarok Led To Half A Million Boost In PS5 Sales

Story Highlight
  • God of War: Ragnarok was so massive that it helped boost the sales of PS5 hardware.
  • It helped the company sell over 500K consoles, signifying the importance of exclusives.
  • The game sold over 15 million copies before later getting a PC port.

PlayStation has had some outstanding exclusive franchises over the years, but most would agree that God of War is among the most prominent of them. Even the last game, released in 2022, was a big hit and showed great numbers.

In fact, fans were so hyped about God of War: Ragnarok that it led to a half-million boost in PS5 sales at the time of its release. It also sold over 11 million copies in just 6 months, and drove over $10 million in accessory revenue.

Why it matters: God of War: Ragnarok is often cited as the best PS5 exclusive released to date, and that shows from the overall sales and audience reactions. It also shows how good exclusives can drive console sales.

God of War: Ragnarok led to a massive boost in PS5 sales

This information comes through Denise Barcellos, an ex-PlayStation director. In his job experiences, he detailed working on God of War: Ragnarok, revealing how the title led to a significant boost on PS5 hardware.

To date, the title sold over 15 million units by November 2023, but later it was also released on PC, so we can expect the present numbers to be significantly higher, but this showcases the impact of exclusives too.

God of War is among the most influential PlayStation exclusives to date

Xbox exclusives weren’t really taking off on its consoles, so they had to go totally multiplatform, but Sony has still franchises that it knows will leave a mark, signifying how important the hardware is for Sony.

Anhow, exclusives are still a huge emphasis for Sony, and it will continue to remain so as their consoles and titles both sell well. The company is reportedly working on the next God of War game set in Egypt, which could be a PS6 release.

Take-Two Shares Drop By Over 10% Following GTA 6 Delay

  • Shares fell off despite this being a record Q2 for the company, surpassing expectations.
  • Shares fell off despite this being a record Q2 for the company, surpassing expectations.

Take-Two Interactive released its Quarterly report for this year. However, it was overshadowed by the news of GTA 6 getting delayed. This has also led to the company’s shares falling right after the announcement.

Just as the company announced that GTA 6 is being delayed to November 2026, the shares plummeted by over 10% wiping more than $27 in value per share. This happened despite great quarterly results for the company.

Why it matters: Even before its release, GTA 6 is a global phenomenon, so it’s not surprising that its delay caused the share value to fall off showcasing its current impact.

Take Two Stocks

Today, right after the announcement, Take-Two saw its shares drop by 10.86% during after-hours trading. While they are somewhat on the way to recovery, this shows the power GTA 6 holds and why Rockstar wants perfection.

Delays are usually caused when the game isn’t ready. So, it makes sense that rather than risking it by releasing the game early, Take-Two wants to give more time to Rockstar to polish and release it in its final form.

GTA 6 Delayed Again
GTA 6 has been delayed for a second time, to the disappointment of fans

What’s even more interesting is that the company’s quarterly results are phenomenal. It recorded its best Q2 ever, surpassing expectations and prompting a second consecutive full-year guidance raise to $6.4–$6.5 billion in Net Bookings.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Has Become The 4th Best-Selling Game of All Time

Story Highlight
  • Take-Two’s latest report reveals that Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold 79 million units.
  • It overtakes Mario Kart 8 as the 4th best-selling video game of all time.
  • It is nearing the third position but is quite behind the top 2; GTA 5 and Minecraft.

Red Dead Redemption 2 leaves a mark on the player forever. It is one of those genre-defining titles in the industry that have stood the test of time and still manage to feel fresh, and it has also achieved a huge sales milestone.

In its latest report, Take-Two Interactive revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold 79 million copies, becoming the 4th best-selling game of all time, only behind Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Wii Sports.

Why it matters: Rockstar’s cowboy game deserves all the praise that it gets, and the sales numbers reflect that. To date, it is considered the benchmark of open-world and storytelling and will continue to hold its place.

Red Dead 2 Sales
Red Dead 2 has sold 79 million copies, becoming the 4th best-selling game of all time.

Take-Two’s Quarterly Report has provided some big news today, including the unfortunate delay of GTA 6. However, it does bring some good news too, like this new milestone that Red Dead Redemption 2 has surpassed.

It was previously behind Mario Kart 8/ Deluxe, which had sold over 78 million copies, but now it is even nearing the 3rd place currently occupied by Wii Sports. Red Dead 2 needs just 3 million copies more to break past the numbers.

Red Dead Redemption
The title is still considered the benchmark for deep storytelling and open-world games.

For Take-Two and Rockstar, the list would be really amusing as they now have 2 titles in the top 4 best-selling games of all time, namely GTA 5, with a whopping 220 million units, and Red Dead 2 with 79 million.

This reflects on how big an impact Take-Two has on the industry and how it plans to do the same with the release of GTA 6. In other news, the company has also revealed continued work on the next BioShock game

  • There were fears that it might be cancelled due to recent layoffs at the studio.
  • Bioshock 1 Remake was also cancelled earlier this year due to franchise turmoil.

The BioShock franchise was once huge, but for the last few years has fallen from grace. It has seen all sorts of issues from leadership problems to game delays and more, and the fans were scared that it might’ve cost the new game in development.

However, Take-Two in its latest report has confirmed that the next BioShock is still in development despite the studio turmoil. Earlier reports claimed that it had been delayed or might’ve even been cancelled.

Why it matters: BioShock has seen a very shaky last few years, but when the rumors of the next game in the franchise started emerging, long-term fans were once again hopeful.

Bioshock 4 in development
Take-Two’s quarterly report confirms that the next BioShock is still in development.

Thankfully, Take-Two’s latest Quarterly Report confirms that BioShock 4 is indeed still in active development, amidst fear that it has been cancelled. The fear was generated by the BioShock 1 remake getting cancelled earlier this year.

In August 2025, Cloud Chamber was hit with layoffs that even led to the Diablo boss taking over as the head of the studio. We don’t really know how the morale is at the studio right now, but it’s good to find out this new development.

Bioshock
There were concerns that it might be cancelled due to studio issues.

For now, we can safely guess that BioShock 4 is quite a few years away. Take-Two hasn’t revealed much about it except that it’ll be based on Unreal Engine 5, but let’s wait and watch out for something from the studio.

  • It was first delayed to early 2026, and has now been pushed back even further.
  • The studio says it needs more time to deliver the quality expected from it.

Game delays are always very annoying for fans, and today has been the worst. We just got news that GTA 6 has been delayed a second time to November 2026, and now we have yet another major game delay.

Skydance Games has announced that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has now been delayed to beyond early 2026. Just like GTA 6, it was also supposed to be released in 2025, then early 2026, and has once again been pushed to a further date.

Why it matters: When the game was first revealed, fans were skeptical, but as the first trailer and leaks came in, more people were interested and even looking forward to it. This latest development will be disappointing for them.

Marvel 1943 Delayed
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has been delayed once again to beyond early 2026.

The studio took to X to announce the delay. The statement says that Skydance is committed to premium experiences and wants to meet the level of quality expected from it; therefore, the release window has now shifted to beyond early 2026.

It seems that the studio still isn’t sure when it’ll be ready to launch the title, which is why it hasn’t specified a proper release date yet again. So, at this point, fans have no idea when Marvel 1943 will actually come out.

Marvel 1943 Rise of Hydra
Marvel 1943 Rise of Hydra is a title full of potential

The title is brimming with potential, covering the first meeting between Captain America and Black Panther; it has a lot of source material, and to top it all off, the Uncharted writer is working on it, so expectations are high.

GTA 6 Gets Delayed Once Again – Now Releasing November 19, 2026

Story Highlight
  • Take-Two has announced that GTA 6 has once again been delayed.
  • It was previously delayed to May 2026, but has now slipped further to November 2026.
  • Rockstar wants more time to finish it and polish the game to deliver the best experience.

What gamers feared has become a reality. Take-Two was supposed to release its financial results today, and fans were expecting the worst, which has now materialized into an actual delay yet again for the most anticipated game of all time.

Take-Two has revealed that GTA 6 has now been delayed to November 19, 2026, after previously slipping to May 2026 from its original 2025 release. This has created an uproar among the fans.

Why it matters: There were already rumors floating around that we might see yet another delay, but to the severe disappointment of everyone, it has now been officially announced.

GTA 6 Delay
GTA 6 has seen a second delay and will now launch in November 2026

In a statement that came with quarterly results, Take-Two announced that it is giving Rockstar Games additional time to finish the game to deliver the high level of polish that fans expect from the release.

Now, it is understandable that Rockstar would want to launch the best version of the game so it meets expectations. We’ve seen disasters like Cyberpunk 2077’s launch, so the studio wouldn’t want the same to happen with GTA 6.

Fans were already fearing a delay, which has now become a reality

Nonetheless, the news will certainly disappoint all of the gaming industry and the players who had been waiting for GTA 6 for the longest time. This will also mean that the PC version could now slip to late 2027 or even 2028

Square Enix Jumps on The AI Bandwagon, Says It Wants Most of Its QA To Be Done By Gen AI

Story Highlight
  • Square Enix will automate 70% of games QA and debugging using gen AI by 2027.
  • It is partnering with the University of Tokyo to use the technology to increase efficiency.
  • The industry is now transitioning towards an AI future as more studios adopt it.

Generative AI is the biggest boom in the gaming industry, with many major studios announcing plans to integrate the technology in the future. Joining hands is Square Enix, which also wants to put the technology to its full use.

Square Enix, in a recent report, has stated that it wants the majority of quality assurance and debugging work in games to be done by generative AI within the next 2 years. This will largely increase efficiency and reduce work.

Why it matters: Generative AI has now become an integral part of the gaming industry, and while its implementation does come out as lazy at first, its right use can help the studios a lot with game development.

Square Enix AI
Square Enix has announced the use of Gen AI for most of its QA for games.

The Final Fantasy studio has announced a partnership with the Matsuo-Iwasawa Laboratory at the University of Tokyo, whose aim is to increase efficiency and reduce work in game development by using AI technologies.

The project is titled “Joint Development of Game QA Automation Technology Using Generative AI”, and with a team from the University and Square Enix engineers, it aims to use AI to its fullest in development.

Square Enix
The studio becomes another big name to join the AI revolution in the gaming industry.

They plan to automate 70% of QA and debugging tasks in game development by the end of 2027. This point has been rather recurrent in the recent few months as other studios like EA have also announced to do the same.

However, the argument remains whether using generative AI is a good call. Some praise the tech, while others say it’ll make the studios lazy and cost jobs. But whether most like it or not, the industry is transitioning towards an AI future.

Nintendo Confirms It Has No Current Plans To Raise Switch 2 Prices

Story Highlight
  • Nintendo has addressed Switch 2 pricing for the near future.
  • The company’s president states that no further price hikes are expected for now.
  • Nintendo intends to maintain the current level of profitability and bring down hardware costs through mass production.

Like PlayStation and Xbox, Nintendo raised hardware pricing recently. However, the gaming giant limited price hikes to last-generation hardware and current-generation accessories. Since then, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold over 10 million units and continues to perform above expectations.

In the wake of these spectacular results, many have also been concerned about potential Nintendo Switch 2 price hikes. Fortunately, the company suggests pricing will remain stable for now.

Why it matters: The unpredictability of recent tariffs and economic conditions has impacted all types of electronics, including gaming consoles.

Nintendo Switch 2
The Switch 2 Already Boasts A Solid Library

During a recent investor’s Q&A, President Shuntaro Furukawa was asked to address potentially changing component pricing impacting Nintendo Switch 2 profitability in the future.

Although the investors did not ask about the console’s price, this question was indirectly aimed at addressing the console’s overall cost moving forward. Fortunately, the President was quick to address these concerns.

He confirmed that Nintendo should be able to maintain the current level of profitability for the time being.

We believe we can maintain hardware profitability at current levels for the time being.

Shuntaro Furukawa also noted that mass production of the Nintendo Switch 2 would bring costs down and balance any potential loss in profitability due to fluctuating component prices.

Nintendo Switch 2
The Original Switch Recently Saw A Price Hike

Because both PlayStation and Xbox have attempted to counter tariffs with price hikes, many expected Nintendo to do the same in an attempt to maximize profit margins on hardware.

The company seems to be keeping current prices intact for now, but it will be interesting to see whether tariffs impact future revisions like the highly anticipated OLED model.

What do you make of Shuntaro Furukawa’s statement? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

ARC Raiders Is The Highest-Rated Multiplayer Game On Metacritic In Almost A Decade

Story Highlight
  • ARC Raider has become the highest-rated multiplayer game in almost a decade.
  • It got a Metacritic score of 87, only beaten by the 91 that Overwatch received in 2016.
  • It is also among the best-rated releases of the year, with a huge player base.

ARC Raiders has caught everyone by surprise. Many went into the game not expecting much, but have been thoroughly impressed by how great it is. After reaching a million copies in just 3 days, the shooter has another record to its name.

ARC Raiders has become the highest-rated multiplayer release on Metacritic in almost a decade, going against games like Helldivers 2, Marvel Rivals, The Finals, and more. The streak could’ve even been longer if not for one game.

Why it matters: The unique thing about Embark’s title is how it mixes the tension of extraction shooters with the atmosphere of adventure games. This makes it unique and interesting at the same time.

ARC Raiders reviews
ARC Raiders is the highest-rated multiplayer release on Metacritic in almost a decade.

ARC Raiders debuted with an 87 score on Metacritic and an even higher 93 on Opencritic. The only multiplayer title that had a better score than it was 2016’s Overwatch with a 91 score on Metacritic.

This puts the extraction shooter in a great league of multiplayer titles, and even among the best games released this year. It is also going toe-to-toe with big hits like Battlefield 6 in terms of concurrent players on Steam.

ARC Raiders comparison
It also has almost the same number of concurrent players on average as Battlefield 6.

In an industry where multiplayer titles don’t really take off because of the saturation in the genre, ARC Raiders has managed not only to compete but dominate, which is a huge feat for Embark Studios.

Nonetheless, it seems the game is here to stay, as the studio has shown its commitment to long-term support. It has also learnt from other titles to avoid mistakes, which are all a formula for long-lasting success.

Arc Raiders Beats Battlefield 6 To Claim #1 Steam Top-Sellers Spot

Story Highlight
  • Arc Raiders has performed incredibly well right off the bat.
  • The game has dethroned Battlefield 6 as Steam’s best-selling title.
  • Many even hope to see the extraction shooter winning Game of the Year next month.

Arc Raiders has taken the gaming world by storm. Delivering an exciting blend of extraction gameplay and post-apocalyptic elements, this multiplayer shooter has become yet another big hit in the world of gaming this year.

Earlier this month, Battlefield 6 launched to similar effect, selling over 6 million units in under a week. Interestingly, it seems Arc Raiders has now dethroned Battlefield 6 on the best-sellers list, at least on Steam.

Why it matters: Battlefield 6 marked the biggest launch in the series’ history, so it is quite interesting to see Arc Raiders outperforming the title.

Arc Raiders Steam Top Sellers
Steam Games Ranked By Revenue | Image via SteamDB

According to SteamDB, Arc Raiders was the top game by revenue last week. When excluding free-to-play titles like Counter-Strike 2, Battlefield 6 and Dispatch followed in second and third place, respectively.

What makes Arc Raiders’ current performance so impressive is the fact that the game had nowhere near as much anticipation as Battlefield 6. In fact, the title has even become one of the highest-rated releases of 2025 already.

Even considering current Steam sales, Arc Raiders is currently the overall top-seller on the platform when excluding free-to-play titles. Until recently, these charts were being dominated by Battlefield 6.

Perhaps Arc Raiders’ unique spin on the extraction shooter genre has won players over and brought about a major shift. It will also be interesting to see how the game holds up as the weeks go by.

Arc Raiders
Arc Raiders has enamoured fans with brilliant PvPvE gameplay.

For now, Arc Raiders is the talk of the town, and streamers like Shroud even believe the game deserves to win Game of the Year over a title like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
